Well, after playing with character builders for hours on end yesterday, and chatting it up with members of my PA, I've decided to go for Fencer. I'm well aware they're the most gimped class in the game, but frankly, I don't care. I wanted to try something different, something challenging, and something that promises to be a lot of fun.

I'm coming from a Pistoleer / Ranger / Creature Handler build, which is one of the more common builds currently on Chilastra (my server of choise). But recently, I've been desiring something more - right now I can solo a Rogue Fambaa with little difficulty, if my pet is tanking for me. That means nothing to me. Big deal. I want to be able to walk right up to a Fambaa, thwack it a few times, and watch it fall over dead, with the satisfying *THUD* that we all know and love.

So, to that extent, I have decided to try out Fencer. My target is for Master. But, I know next to nothing about the Fencer profession, so I've a few questions:

1.) Re: Stats. I've decided that my mind stats are my most important, because without them, I won't be able to heal myself for Action and Health. Also, mind stats are the only ones that can't be buffed. Is this a good mindset to have? I'm thinking 800/800/900, with max Willpower, and the rest of my points into the secondary Action stats, is a good idea. I'm a Twi'lek, if it matters.

2.) Re: Weapons. I've got a few right now - namely a Ryyk Blade (69 - 170 @ 2.0) and a Vibroblade (50-149 @ 2.6, I think). Is this more or less the cream of the crop? I've heard talk of Curved Swords, but I find it hard to beleive that something that comes at the first tier of Brawler is better than something that comes at the third tier (like the Ryyk). Oh - and what's up with the range mods? At its ideal range, 3m, my Ryyk Blade gets a -9 to hit. The hell?

3.) Re: Armor. Is this a good idea? I have a Master Armorsmith friend who's willing to make me a nice set of Advanced Chitin (no way in Hell would I be able to wear Composite), but is the penalty to HAM really that bad? I can't see a Fencer using armor anyway - it doesn't seem to suit the profession. Would I be better off in clothing?

4.) Re: Supporting Professions. Medic is a must, no questions asked. I'm going to get Master Entertainer as well (LOVE the Mandoviol), and Exploration III in the Scout tree, but otherwise, I'm clueless. I don't want any ranged attack of any sort, and I highly doubt that Creature Handler is a good pairing with a melee class. Perhaps more Medic?

I was camping out a respawn of Lesser Bocatts last night on Tatooine - about 900 one-handed exp each. Of course, each of them would probably come close to killing me But anyway, I'm around 20k into One-Handed Weapons IV in the Brawler tree. So while I'm not yet a Novice Fencer, I will be.

Any other advice or tips that fellow one-handed combatants could pass on to me would be much appreciated

Thank you!

Oh, and yes, I am fully prepared to be one of the most gimped classes in the game

Stupid lack of an "edit" feature.

No reason to have higher action stats than health, since you use mostly mind with specials.

2.) Re: Weapons. I've got a few right now - namely a Ryyk Blade (69 - 170 @ 2.0) and a Vibroblade (50-149 @ 2.6, I think). Is this more or less the cream of the crop? Curveds are a little better than Ryyk, but not very much. Stun baton is good for some situations, and Gaderiffi batons are the best later on (they have low mind use too, which is awesome if you can heal yourself).

3.) Re: Armor. Is this a good idea? Use an armor macro. You can't tank without armor.

Medic will be very useful. I can solo a lot more than I could without any healing ability.

Personally i think all the money i put in an armor was a big waste of money. I am 4 4 4 2 in medic and EACH time i die it is because of mind damage. Armor = more mind cost on each move. I tried alot of differentthings to be able to use armor without killing myself and i finally endnot using armor at all. When you will be higher in the fencer tree i suggest you to use vibro blade to do Health hit (bleed) Dizzy, lunge and blind. Then switch to a good curved swords (mine is 97-230 speed 2.2) and either do bersek if the creature have alot on HAM or use attack combo to finish it and heal yourself when you need it. If you are lucky they will hit your action and health...if not... you will die hehe. In factan armor without an helmet work nicely because the helmet cost too much mind. For the stats i would put constitution and quickness really low since you are a medic you dont need it to heal fast and put strenght and stamina high to be able to use special attack more often. ALL the3 mind stats must be high. I would also put 950/750/900 for HAM.

ok i disagree with a lot of this actually.

The best weapon out that I have seen on Sunrunner is the Adv Ganderffi and that is at a 130-240 roughly with 3.5 spd unlsiced... i have one sliced to 2.7 speed and one sliced to 170-286 dmg. At Master Fencer you have more then enough speed mods to compensate the speed of these and stay capped even with specials. the only draw back is mainly the healt ham at about 61 on mine. for me it no big deal being a terandosh I have 700 tr and 700 con anyhow and when i need to i hit regen for an extra 200 con.

the most important stats are you secdonaries. if your a medic also the con and stam isnt as needed as the str and quickness ... that is correct and also making you mind stats high as possible. i peronally have a 800-800-700 with max will and focus and max stam and quickness which doesnt amount to much there. If you want to truly be effective personally I found that doctor fencers to be more deadly then almost anything for melee. with the added physical secondary stats ( mine end up roughly at 1800 str, 1800 con, 1500 quickness and 1400 stamina with about 2500 health and action) that spamming specials with any weapon i not a poblem... just down a muon gold and eat a few chef buffs or see a muician or dancer or both before pvp or duels and youll own mot classes in melee (personal experience) i have not lost to any heavy swordsman or polearm and am about 50 - 50 against TKA if they knock me down im dead but if they dont they die,

this is all based on my personal experience and i will admit that a lot of people come back and re-duel me cause they lost and they learned something new and found a new tactic. dueling people fo fun is whre i find where my strengths and weaknesses are agaisnt other melee classes and can help you to lean you own clas better as you try to figure how to beat them... just my opinions feel free to disagree
