Thread: Ranged and melee defense?

Maybe im wrong but it seems like ranged and melee defense doesnt really help much at all. Has there ever been any tests to see if it actually works or how much it helps?

Ok this is how melee/ranged defense work.

Im assuming you think they reduce the amount of damage by melee/ranged, yes?

Alright, well thats a myth. Melee/ranged defense is a hit-miss ratio, meaning the more melee defense you have the more a melee opponent miss you, same with ranged.

Yeah initially i thought it reduced damage but after a while i was not sure what it did. Thanks

Oh yeah i have another question....Do one-handed melee toughness skill attachments exist? Because if we could get more toughness we could take damage like a TKM and plus have the dodge.......sounds too good to be true so im going to assume they dont exist..

i've wondered this myself but i believe that the answer is no. i've never seen one in-game or on the trade forum. they would be a hot commodity if they did exist though i'm sure...

Well i guess im going to have to do a little more research.......im 90% sure they dont exist but that 10% chance keeps me looking.....i just got to know

I always thought melee toughness was a TKM only attribute?

What you are referring to in unarmed toughness. Melee DEFENSE is different.

The toughness's(onehand, 2hand and unarmed) are the mods that reduce damage, not the melee/ranged defenses .

While were on the subject; I'm curious about capping. I've heard a bit about Def capping. The number I have heard is +120 Mel/Def is max. My question then is: Do dodge/block/etc cap as well? I am aware of how and why they work, but do secondary defenses like those have a hard cap? And what about Def Vs Dizzy and that whole mileu of defenses, do they have a hard cap as well?

I am assuming that most of this will be changed in the upcoming Combat Upgrade but I am still curious how it works for now. Thanks : )
