I've been playing for 4 months and have never figured out armor, is there an FAQ I can read about it because I am so lost and tired of trying armor to find myself getting incapped more even though the stats are better...

There's a great post stickied to the top of the Armorsmith forum. It's got a breakdown about what the resists mean, how damage is blocked (depending on resistance/vulnerability, armor rating, damage type and armor piercing of the weapon), and some brief descriptions on the types of armor available.

armor will effect a fencer in a couple of diff ways

1. Resists : self explanatory the higher the resist % the better it will protect you

2. HAM Cost: This is what will hurt you. Your armor will show something like this

Special Resist Stun 50%

Base resist kinetic 50% energy 50% .....

Vulnerbility Heat

Special and base resist work the same when applying calculations of damage, but special resists cannot be sliced for effectiveness.

All armor that is player worn is Armor Rateing 1 ( AR1) Weapons have armor piercing ( AP1-3)

AP0 - AR1 ( Say curved Sword attacking ubese armor with 50% kinetic resist ) would automatically take 50% off the damage from the attack because the AP is less than the AR, then the resist is applied, in this case another 50%

AP1-AR1 is a normal attack only the effectivenes of the armor is applied to reduction of damage.

Say a AP0( Heat dmg) -AR1 Because your armor is vulnerable to heat there will be no reductions whatsoever.

Also on armor you will see the encumberance #'s These take your secondary stats which means you need high secondary stats even to get the armor on.

While you have it on your specials HAM cost will increase because your secondary stats are suffering from encumberance. Which will kill you very fast
