I am halfway to novice fencer, and I'm also 3/4/4/0 in Doctor with my alt (not the char in signature). What does anyone recommend I do first in the fencer tree? Also, I have no clue what centerofbeing does. Can anyone explain it to me? Thanks.

Read these boards. All you questions can be answered in 10 minutes if you just READ.

You need to:
- Learn how armor works
- Learn what weapons do what. (But his only makes sense if you know how armor works.)
- Hover your cursor over the skills in the Fencer tree and read the descriptions.
- Real the Holocron

If you do this, you will do fine.

I find the last post particularly unhelpful. I do agree that reading with enlighten you more but since you did ask a question, I will be polite enough to answer.

Most fencers agree that the footwork line of skills are the most important to obtain first as you gain your speed bonuses there. I should add that at footwork IV, you will be able to wield the Gaffi stick at the 1.0 spd cap and that makes the rest of the profession easy to accomplish.

I understand all about armor and how to match up the weapons. I was just curious of what you all think is the best route to go to start the tree. And I have no clue what centerofbeing does or how to useit.

Center of being allows you to avoid attacks by focusing your character on self preservation. It's a good way of defending yourself while you beat down whatever you're fighting.

All melee professions get a attack defense that rolls, fencer gets dodge. This is a chance for you to "dodge" an attack after the defense modifier rolls. Center of Being simply enhances this dodge function making you increasingly difficult to hit. The perchantage breakdown I do not know. I'm sure the information is here in the boards. I was master fencer before CoB was available so I don't know how it helps during the grind.

Does it have any negative effects at all? I've never tried it (bad on my part) because I thought maybe it had a give and take type thing. Maybe I should be using this all the time....

My 1 hand xp seems to be coming VERY slowly. I have mostly hunted in fambaa groups on Naboo. Anyone have any recommendations on where to hunt to gain xp quicker? By the way, I'm a fencer because I want to and not because a holo told me to.

Well, it's a special move, so you have to pay HAM to execute it, and it's very heavily weighted towards mind. I think I saw once that doing CoB cost around 75-100 mind points, with maybe 30-50from health and action. Now that's probably going to be different for you depending on your strength/quickness/focus stats. It should be pretty easy to check since you don't have to be in combat to do it, just bring up your character sheet, do /centerofbeing, and see how much each HAM drops.

If you're wondering whether it'sanything like "Beserk" where you do more damage but can't do specials, there's no drawback like that (at least that I've seen).

Being centered all the time probably isn't doable at lower levels, since it'll be wearing out pretty often until you improve your "CoB Duration" skill. Of course, if you have a really impressive Willpower and can regen the mind cost before needing to re-apply the state, go for it.

As mentioned it has a HAM cost heavily weighted on the mind pool. It has no other negative effect. At lower levels the duration is very short so you can spend a lot of HAM keeping it on constantly. At master fencer, it lasts roughly 31 seconds. I think it's about 36 seconds at master brawler + master fencer.
