Thread: Why does dodge work better than counterattack?

I'm from that other profession with a sword, but I'm curious as heck as to why dodge works better than counterattack? Our counterattack number is 110 for master, yours is 105 for master. So did the devs just decide that dodge should be more effective than counter-attack? You guys have some formula that makes it so you dodge like crazy, but our formula makes it so counterattack every once in a while?

Not crying nerf or anything, just trying to understand how it works,

p.s. Amazing work by your contact guy, the post on here's the real scoop on stacking was great

not sure if there's any statistics on how much they actually 'go off', but dodge is better usually because you dodge the attack (take no damage) whereas counterattack allows you to get an extra hit in, but take the damage - at least that's how i understand it

counterattack-block-dodge all works the same way at the moment, you avoid the damage. I've seen rifleman shooting at carbineer/heavyswrdsman and hitting nothing but air. They all work the same.

really? i still check the combat logs and see 'you hit ___ for xxx dmg but he counterattacks' and the number still floats off over their head

A fencer has higher melee defense, that is all the trick!

up your primary defenses and you are set...

A guildmate of mine is a swordsman as well and he can counterattack like crazy with 146 melee and 141 ranged defense....

dodge, counterattack and block are secondary defensive mods - primary defensive mods (ranged/melee defense) won't affect them - they only affect hit or miss. once a hit is calculated then the secondary is chanced in. he's probably counterattacking like crazy cause he's either got carbineer or he's centered or both
