Thread: My Last Ditch Effort for Fencer
My husband is a Human. Or at least, he is on the outside ![]()
I notice that you guys keep mentioning that mind is the first to go, but with me I find it's health. I don't know why, it must be a combination of my gaffi and the dmg I'm receiving from my opponent. It used to be mind that went first with me but for some reason it's not anymore. Maybe I'm just weird...
I will have a look at my stats again and see if they need remigrating.
Mind goes fast because it is drained when you heal. If your Health goes down, just heal it....but when you're mind goes down too low, there are no more heals coming. That is one reason people say keep your mind high. In addition to this, many of our specials cost a lot of Mind. You won't notice much with a gaffi stick since it only has around 12 mind cost.
Just remember to keep your health bar healed at is goes down. Get some food/drink that buffs your strength and quickness since this affects the specials cost most when using a gaffi stick. If you're using a stun baton, find something that buffs quickness and focus for lower specials costs. Or just buff your mind like crazy and keep the heals going as you drain your Health and Action.
Just some thoughts
I'll also echo the Vasarian Brandy recommendations - this stuff is great as my mind doesn't really go down unless actually hit (and even then it regenerates well)
Good luck and have fun

Bleed heal would come under the meditate tree of TKA I think. ![]()
Well, thanks to all the responses I've had here, and input from my husband and guild, I'm currently deciding between keeping Fencer, and dropping it for TKA until such atime as Fencer is done the justice it deserves. I will ALWAYS love Fencing, no matter what I decide to do, as I always play a sword using character in any game like this (such as Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, etc) and I will continue to read and contribute to the fencer forums for as long as I play swg. Either way, I think we would all agree that the most important thing is to enjoy the game for the cost of the subscription, and I can safely say that whatever I end up doing will be what makes the game worth playing for me personally. ![]()
If the devs fix Fencer and give it the TLC it needs, assuming I drop it temporarily until they do, I'll be back in a flash. ![]()
No offense on this, but I think you're doing something wrong. I'm not sure WHAT, because I've never seen you play, but something HAS to be wrong. We all know race is no longer a factor (unless you're a wookie) but I'll mention I'm a mon cal. Mind is 1300/800/650. Health is about 300 with maxed secondaries, action is about 375 with maxed secondaries. With a buff, BE brandy, and a set of encumberance sliced 65% kinetic composite, I'm VERY effective in combat, I usually don't have problems with mind (unless I'm fighting 10 rancors solo and getting beaten down). In PVP, I'll fight a few of my wookie friends, both of us unarmored, and unless one uses his fire damage gaffi oh me, I can hold my own against any of them. Both buffed, and again, unarmored.
I mean, honestly.... Are you PVPing unbuffed? If yes, why? Are you using crappy armor? If yes, why? If you're a master dancer, it CAN'T be cost. A day's worth of buffing will give you enough for 10 sets of high end armor. I don't know, I just can't understand it.
Hi, Master Fencer here......
First of all, I just wanted to say that since you say that your specials arehurting you and basically helping your opponent kill you, consider getting your 3 HAM bars buffed that related directly to how much HAM you use for specials (besides the weapons HAM cost). Strength, Quickness and Focus are the 3 bars that you need to get buffed if you don't want your specials to hurt you.
My Strength, Quickness and focus are all 525 and if I get these 3 bars buffed to at least 1500, my specials cost me nothing at all unarmored and specials only cost me 1-7 pts per special when in my armor (composite with no helmet, no pants, no gloves...total encumberance on it is about 390 or so....all parts are 60 - 70% resist).
now by getting these 3 bars buffed, you don't have to worry about killing yourself with your own specials. THe only HAM damage you have to worry about is whatever your opponent (pvp or pve) hits you with. If you wear armor, that will also drastically cut the damage you take by minimum 50% and definitely higher depending on the resist of the armor and type of attack your opponent uses.
I suggest finding a really good chef or chefs on your server that you can form relationship with in order for you to get access to good quality food buffs if you don't like getting doc/entertainer buffs. Heres a website that shows you the new chef food and what it does.....should help you find a good combination to use.
<a href="http://www.gamekast.com/swg/foodtables.html">New Chef Food Table</a>
For armor, 2 sets of suits should be preferable mostly for PVP. 1 for high kinetic resist (for melee opponents and most creatures) and 1 for every other kind of resist excluding stun....although composite with 80% stun resist is floating around my server but still very hard to find. So I carry them at all times and they are the exact same color so when I switch, noone really knows unless it's laggy (lag will show your armor off for a second and then back on when you switch so people can tell when you switch sometimes). A good armor/clothing switching macro is extremely handy.
For PVE, the only time I need any armor at all is when I'm fighting elite mobs like nighsisters or the geonosians in the geo cave
. For PVP, Buffs and armor are essential no matter what professions you have because everyone else will be buffed 95% of the time....especially in group raids and such. So if your not buffed you'll end up with stats under 1000 while your opponents have stats up to at least 2000 or 3000.....big difference there.
now if you get full buffs, this will drastically increase your regen rate as well as lower the cost of your specials.....so in this situation, an opponent will have to do massive damage to you or else you will regen it faster than they can hit you.....since fencers dodge+COB is god like, you won't get hit all that often. When I'm buffed I normally regen 56 pts a second (depends on how big the buff is)....not the exact numbers but close, can be more or less......so if I don't get hit for 5 seconds (which is not uncommon for fencers) then I can actually regen 280 pts in that time.....some attacks won't even do that much damage to you if you are wearing composite armor and have your enemies tactics in mind....i.e. what type of attacks they like to do, do they move a lot (a still target is easy to hit), do they use terrain in their favor (can't hit what you can't see), what kind of weapons are they using (don't get caught wearing 80% kinetic resist armor when they are attacking you with energy damage), do they wear armor or not, do they like to fight up close or at range, do they hit and run....and so on.
Being able to recongize these things will increase your chances of survival in PVP or PVE....you should be able to reconginze at least some of these things in a moments instant because sometimes that's how long a battle last...lol
As far as weapons go.....fencer really disappoints me because they only have 2 types of damages.....kinetic and stun.
The stun batons are very weak but can be the fastest of all fencer weapons....I have 3 under 1.0 speed (sucks because as a master I need damage slices and not speed
) The only ap weapon we have is the vibro blade and it's damage is pathetic compared to the Gaderiffi stick we get at novice (that doesn't make sense to me, but soe did it this way). As a matter of fact the Gaderiffi stick is the most powerful weapon of all our weapons, but unfortunatley it is slow and can have a wide range between min and max damage which hurts us in PVP because of Damage mitigation 3. I have a Gaderiffi with 100 something minimum and almost 330 maximum damge but mitigation3lowers the damage range by almost 80%, then attacking a armored opponent reduces 50% of my total damage and another damage reduction with the percentage dependant on what their resist to kineticare.
So then the only alternative we have is to switch to the stun baton which has lower damage and higher HAM cost than a Gaderiffi (at least thats how all my stun batons and gaderiffi's compare to each other, but it can easily be the server difference in weapons).
I suggest you search for a better Gaderiffi and a very good stun baton made with acklay bones if you have the cash for it. Hopefully you can get a damage slice since your are a master and don't need the extra speed, besides a couple of +5 one-handed speed SEA's can always be added when you want. Right now as a master fencer with 1 speed mod, I hit the 1 second speed cap with all my attacks no matter what weapon I use.
For medics and healing you only need novice medic (5 med use) to use stim B's. before I went holo hunting (yeah I know what your thinking...but I want my jedi LOL), I had 3-2-2-4 medic.....I had to drop to 1-0-0-0 and I hated to give up my ability to heal bleeds from first aid. anyway, no combat profession should be without basic medic skills as far as I'm concerned and when you add BE clothing into the mix, you can get great heals. When I was 2-2-0-0 medic, I averaged 800 pt heals to myself with the boost from my BE clothes. since I keep my focus bar buffed, heals cost me nothing at all......now that's valuable don't you think.
I know you said that you don't want to defense stackSo your only alternative to that is to get BE clothes with at least 4 sockets so you can add as many mods to boost your effectivness in the areas that you feel are important to you. Melee defense and Defense vs ****insert effect here**** mods are great additions to what fencers already have.
For example I have BE shirt (wear under my armor when I do wear armor) +4 melee defense, +16 injury treatment, +16 wound treatment, +5 def vs stun, +10 one-handed weapondamage.
My BE pants have the exact same stats as my shirt minus the one-handed weapondamage and the def vs stun....instead the pants has a speed modifier for pistols (don't remember the number) and another mod I don't even remember...it's either accuracy or speed for one hand weapons though.
just these two BE clothes give me a total of:
+8 melee defense
+32 injury and wound treatment (but only uses +25 since its the total cap for mods)
+5 def vs stun
+6 one-handed weapon damage
+*something* pistol speed (I think it's 6 or something...not sure though).
Then in addition to that I have 2 aakuran rings with +5 ranged defense each. all my composite armor has SEA's in them for pistol speed, def vs ***whatever****, melee defense, ranged defense, one-hand weapon speed.....and a few others I don't remember right now.
Then there is my other shirts, pants and armor that I have mods on and I have made a macro to switch to with a button press.
So basically I'm giving an example of my character to show you that there are other aspects of your character you need to look at besides those you listed.
also, defense is the best attribute of a fencer......like I said, CoB and dodge will make you very hard to hit......Myself, I am not a def stacker by choice, my holo told me to do fencer and I was already a master pistoleer months before and therefore my defense is uber because of the stacking problem. It doesn't matter though, because stacking is out come publish 7. All stacking will be limited to what each profession gives andthe cap of +25 points SEA's give. this means fencers get 105 dodge from their profession.....with max SEA bonus of +25 you can have 130 dodge and it will stay this way in the publish 7. No more +105 from fencer, +105 from pistoleer and +25 from SEA's for a total of 235 dodge......Same thing with melee defense and ranged defense.
My final comment is that to want to be a pure profession and not dabble in another profession means that you should not be PVPing very often by yourself. each profession has a strong point and a weak point, but all of the profession need help from another profession when in battle given the types of opponents we must face because of buffing and dabbling. You won't be able to take on a TKM as easily as you can take a CM or Carbineer. In other words, each profession has it's match.....the combination and ability to mix professions make you that much more powerful and by only using a pure profession with no dabbling means you have already put yourself below half of the PVP community and thus makes what you want to accomplish will be that much harder.....it's like a boxer trying to take on a wrestler who also knows karate.....the boxer is fine as long as he can keep his opponent at a decent range and slug'em, but then the wrestler can switch to karate when he gets pushed out of range of wrestling and grappling moves......What can the boxer do then....In SWG, A dabbler can then switch as his opponents switch....and unfortunatly pure professions are not very common because people want versatility instead of being able to truely call them selves a master of a profession by only being that profession.
> I mean, honestly.... Are you PVPing unbuffed? If yes, why? Are you using crappy armor? If yes, why? If you're master > dancer, it CAN'T be cost. A day's worth of buffing will give you enough for 10 sets of high end armor. I don't know, I just > can't understand it.
It's bringing a knife to a gunfight then. If you want to win at PVP, you have to set yourself up for a win at PVP. The difference between 700 HAM and 3000 HAM is the difference of a creature handler fighting with a rancor & a durni. SHOULD it be this way? Who knows. But it is, so it's something you have to do to be effective.
Let me make a suggestion though.... As a doctor, you'd be surprised at how many people try to run off after a buff without paying. That's why I don't start until I have the money in my hand. Makes for a very effective crimestopper. If you charged say, 8K for a buff, and asked for it beforehand, you SHOULD have more than enough customers to make it worthwhile. I sit in Coronet's cantina and see people coming in all the time asking for buffs.
