Melee mitigation works for melee only, ranged mitigation works for ranged prof. However this person in the original post is saying going 0004 for only melee defense. And having the mit, is far more important. Stun can easily drop your ranged and melee defenses, but mitigation is never ever dropped. Not to mention the decreased damage is far better compared to the little amount of extra misses more defense will give you.

If I get melee defense from TKA does it also work when im holding a pistol?

Yes, Melee defense is the stat that is used when someone is using a melee attack ON you...so melee defense works against the accuracy of a MOB trying to hit you with a Sword, Claw or Bite...you use your Ranged defense mod when a MOB is trying to shoot you with a blaster or spit acid at you.

These 2 stats lower the accuracy mod of the creature/npc/player attacking you. There is a cap of 125 on both.

What exactly is the difference between melee defense, one handed melee defense/two handed melee defense.


Had a jedi whack me with his double bladed saber, hit for 450 points, put on +16 melee defense bando, and had him hit me again, 450 points again.


What does a saber count as, if it is a one handed saber does plain melee defense provide any mitigation, if I stacked a +25 one handed would that give me 25 + 16 extra defense vs that type of saber?

Melee Defense give you a bonus against all forms of Melee attacks regardless of what weapon you are holding.

1Hand Melee Def only works when you are holding a 1Hand weapon such as a Stun Baton or Gaffi Stick.

2Hand Melee Def only works when you are holding a 2Hand weapon such as a Power Hammer.

yeah the specific proffesion defense works as melee defense, and the defense is not agains a cetain weapon,


if u wealding a one handed weapon u get the defense from the one handed defense tape you are using, but if you are using a two handed weapon then the onme handed defense tape wont work i think, so it has nothing to do with the weapon your opponent is using it gives youdefense depending on what weaopn you are weilding

so the defense is based on the weapon I am holding?


I use a rifle. I have the +16 melee defense bando, what kind of defense tapes should I be looking for when fighting jedi?


I assumed rifle defense tapes were used when fighting AGAINST rifleman, are they supposed to be use if you ARE a rifleman?


Does the +16 melee/ranged defense bando do anything for me.


From the looks of it I had everything backwards.


So I should be looking for a +9 ranged defense tape and +25 rifle defense tape?

Well, you only had it half backward.


"melee defense" is your base defense against melee attacks. This skill helps you when your opponent is coming at you unarmed, with a power hammer, or with a lightsaber. In the same way, "ranged defense" is your defense against ranged attacks. So a higher ranged defense skill helps when your enemy is wielding a pistol, rifle, or carbine. I think Jedi powers also fall under the umbrella of "ranged" attacks, but I'm not positive. So your "melee defense" is used when they're swinging their lightsaber, and "ranged defense" when you're trying to dodge force lightning.


Your "rifle defense" skill stacks on top of both the "melee defense" and "ranged defense", but only when you are using a rifle.


So if you had 100 melee defense, 120 ranged defense and 75 rifle defense, when you equip a rifle and look at your character sheet, it should show 175 melee defense (100 from base skill + 75 from rifle defense) and 195 ranged defense (120 from ranged defense + 75 rifle defense).


For fighting jedi, you probably want to focus on melee defense and rifle defense. Even though these stack together to give your "total" defense against melee attacks, the +25 limit on tape bonuses applies to each one separately, so you could have up to +50 total (+25 melee defense and +25 rifle defense).

Rumor is that BE clothing with defense mods dont work at the moment so I wouldnt put to much trust in them. Non-BE clothing w/ defense mods attached to them however are supposed to be working.

If you are fighting Jedi, and are a BH/Rifleman I would look for these skilltapes to augment your abilities:

Melee Defense (sabers are melee, including saber throw)
Range Defense (force attacks are ranged and some jedi like to pull a CL54 ALR or FWG5 if their saber sucks)
Rifle Defense (only works when you have rifle equipped)
General Ranged Accuracy (stacks on top of any weapon accuracy)
General Ranged Speed (stacks on top of any weapon speed)
Rifle Accuracy (only works when you have rifle equipped)
Rifle Speed (only works when you have rifle equipped)

Also, all hard caps have been taken out of the game with the CU. Now its all based on diminishing return for the most part. Basically the higher the mod you have, the less bonus you actually get from it. However mods like Accuracy and Defense dont really have this. Jedi and Sword/Pike temps can boost their defenses to 700+ with Aura/Armor/CoB macros and foods. The higher the defense, the more accuracy required to deal damage. Speed bonuses become useless after they reach around 0.95 modified or so with any weapon.
