It may be because I have +190 carbine accuracy, but despite what everyone says about fencers in PvP I seem to have a lot more trouble with swordsmen. Stun batons have an extremely low damage output if you have stun armor and an imp PSG on. If the person relies entirely on fencer for damage, you can take away their KD if you don't kite and just allow them to posture you down (but I guess that isn't an option if you are melee).

By far the most dangerous oponents that I have faced in PvP,*cough* other than cms,are well outfitted swordsman defense stackers.

Fencer's only MIND attack is scatter shot which does little damage in the mind pool but have great defenses.

Swordsmen have a special dedicated to hitting the MIND pool but only decent defenses.

Doctor gives you the ability to heal any dizzy, blind, or intimidate plus can use a stimE to heal all of the health/action damage you incur in one shot.

Chef accuracy foods help break through all defenses....ALOT when enhanced.

The majority ofPvP fights end when one or the other opponent's MIND is empty or whoever has been knocked down first. Fencers have a better chance of getting up while dizzy due to their high defense.

A shield generator with as little as 10% stun resist or armor with 1% stun resist can shift a fight between the two in a big way.

You make the decision.

OK, for normal players with a typical bank balance in game......Fencer. Get a good 150+ Aklay baton, prolly run you 1 mil-10 mil for anyhting over +225 bones. PRAY for damage slice.

For a normanlly financed player Swordsman is and will always be better for PvE but not as good, almost useless in PvP against expierienced PvPers.

Now, for the rest of us, those of us who can make money and are known as 'Loot Whores'.....Get Master brawler, some TK 4003 (meditate, Power boost, and some more melee and ranged defense) and +15 in 2handed speed tapes. Get a GOOD Power Hammer, (+175 acklay bones, higher better, it is worth it). You know swing at 1 hit per second REGARDLESS of hammer speed. ( 750 damage + Hammer, with a 16% power up is more than 860 damage max) mind hit 3 does wounds to SECONDARY mind stats....and head hit 3 is a 2.5x damage, with a 1/2 PvP reduction, somethin like that.... so we are looking at 1k mind damage per second now right? with 80% blast resist on the opponent, you are doing a bit over 200 mind damage. they also have a mind bleed, and are intimidated. i.e. fight should be over in about 15-20 seconds.....btw try and land that dizzy from 2h hit 3 then KD with lunge 2. then start spamming all the head hits.

Even a GOOd 250 damage acklay stun baton....about 290 damage, 400 with a good slice., 460 w/ p/u, will do more damage than the PH, but not to the mind pool. damage to the health and action pools are almost useless in PvP (can you say docs?), but fencers do well against Jedi though. DODGE, and they hit all three HAM pools, and do ALOT more states and can KD/Dizzy more often. (causing the Jedi to use clear states more often thus wasting force pool)

short version. If you do not have any nor can afford any two handed speed tapes.....go fencer for PvP, swordsman for PvE. If you can afford or can loot plenty of 2H speed tapes, swrodsman for complete Rule....w/ master brawler and doc. enough to use stim E's...

BTW in order to use +15 in speed tapes, while going through sets of armor weekly, they all need to be AAs. well you want to wear as LITTLE clothes as you can.shirt, one CA, use the best speed tape you can. then you only have two other slots you want to risk putting it in. Gloves and Belt....using belt is not too bad, but you cannot use a PSG (bandolier is an option if you dont have a bunch of crap you are carrying around like me) And if you cant find 2 speed tapes adding up to +15, use gloves. They dont get hit THAT often.....probably the least hit piece from what I can gather.....so get a pair of leather gloves and put a CA on it.

Unlike in PVE, in PVP, defense matters.

In PVE, with buffs and good armor, very few places can kill you, so a Fencers defenses are wasted.

Not so in PVP. In a one on one fight, (duel) there are a lot of factors, weapons, defenses, skill of opponant. Those all matter. Doc with either is nice because you can heal your dizzies and such. Most times in a Duel, I will beat the swordsman, he hits me harder, but with COB, he misses a lot more then he hits.A swordsman, can kill a fencer though.

What you need to reliase is that many pvpers may only have profession like Fencer mastered, they then took defenses from many trees, especially state defenses. So they can be very hard to hit.

Also remember that not all of PVP is a duel. In a group fight, a "pure" fencer will live a lot longer then a "pure" swordsman. Maybe the fencer wont do as much damage, but he will be harder to hit.

So basically, it depends on your play style. Do you want to live longer, or smash peoples heads?

Fencer is in general better for PvP because of its high defenses, but due to its relatively weak attacks, you really need to use status attacks to your advantage, In my experience Swordsman is generally less effective in PvP, but with a good scythe, Fencers dont stand a chance. I remember one fight (unbuffed) against a master fencer: Intimidate stuck, and it was only about four hits before the fencer hit the ground. I was only hit once for honestly pathetic damage. Fencers have the ability to outlast the enemy, but in an unbuffed fight against a skilled swordsman, fencers dont stand a chance. Its when buffs and armor are involved that Swordsman ae virtually useless. As for PvE, there are only two choices: rifleman or swordsman.
