Thread: How are you finding fencer in the CU test?

I actually like the interface and the new stats and skills, I tried out many templates and found one that I liked. But I'm not quite sure where the individual player character falls in the scheme of things. What is supposed to be a challenge to hunt, and what should be easy hunting for cash or resources?
I fought a lair of Giant Squills, level 65, it was interesting, I was never hurt too badly, but it took a while to win. It was a fun challenge, a lot of tactics involved, not just a hack and slash situation. On the other hand I wasn't able to solo a kimogila (didn't catch the level), and got one-shot incapped by a tusken observer (level 225).
This is a big implication of a major rebalance. What is it going to be like fighting day to day, if high-end content must now be tanked, mezzed, crippled, and rooted, while content that we were accustomed to grinding must now be handled with strategy? It's really like taking all the content and dropping it in a new game with a new range of difficulty.
Otherwise, I did enjoy the template that I came up with. I would have liked to use a fencer/ranged template like I always have, but choosing ranged and mixed seems to limit both your power, and your choice of specials. Mixing two melee profs, or two ranged profs, greatly boosts your stats, and gives you a wide range of specials and combos. I chose Fencer/Pikeman and really liked the ability to use Pike spin attacks while wielding the acid sword, without ever having to swap weapons. In fact if I do this template on live, I may never buy any polearms.
But again, I think the biggest learning curve will be figuring out what content is solo and what's group-only, or what's easy and what's high-end. This has a lot of implications, including group availabilty, the economy, and the distribution of classes throughout the player base.
But what lvl are you if it takes time to kill a lair of lvl 60 when you are lvl 80 it is ridiculesyou should be able to kill stuff at your own lvl solo, not totally easy but with out to much trouble. And as it is right now you cant kill anything your own lvl.

Ditto. I had just enough time to whack a few noob creatures before my first ctd. I travelled to Tatooine and ctd'd again. Just when I got outside the city I ctd'd again. So I haven't tested much.
What little testing I did was as a MFencer and a MPikeman (since they got our current role in combat). Of course, on noob creatures, there wasn't much to each fight, but I took considerably less damage against multiple creatures as a pikeman (as intended). As they were typically gone with one hit with either weapon, pikes seemed to win out.
If I can get on for more than 10 min at a time, I'll test more.

for the most part you have to unlearn what you have learned if you are to enjoy it. i played my guy up to novice fencer before i used the frog and i was enjoying it. when i used the frog i ran off to dath to do what i normally do (rancors) to find out it didn't work so well lol. Alot of us will be better off replaying fencer from 0 so we can lose our bad habits
Except the role has completely changed. If you enjoyed being a defensive player before (as I did) then switching profs is more than likely what you'll have to do.
I tested master fencer and master doc, my current template, for about 5 hours on TC. Turns out I had more fun as a master pikeman and master combat medic.
That being said, I didn't enjoy combat very much. I dueled 4 times, going 2-2. I group hunted PvE. I group hunted PvP as well. I didn't really enjoy any of it. I'll continue testing though... maybe I'll get used to it. However, one of the reasons I stuck with SWG rather than EQ or WoW was how the game played.
If, after more testing, I find I really don't care for combat, I'll stick around as a crafter. I hate being a whiner, but SOE seems to have been successful at taking away what I liked about combat in this game. More later.
