Thread: Supplementing Fencer

Although I have considered Master Brawler, Fencer, and TKA (possibly something else melee)... it semeed like a no-no to me. This is due to the fact that if a ranged class decides to kite you you're useless, not to mention you cannot use all your melee weapons at once, so that would be usesless as well in PvE.

As for the Rifleman idea.. why is Fencer and Rifleman a good combo? +Melee/Ranged Defense stacks...?

Any word on one hand lunge 1 vs one hand lunge 2 or Carbineer? =) Even a post about how much Carbineers suck would be good.. lol

Currently I'm M.fencer, M.brawler.... going for M.chef, though, so that's not all that helpful of a suppliment.

I'm loving brawler/fencer, but I'm going to wind up with M.fencer, TK 2/0/0/0 (a. power boost is useful, and b. since launch i've been a sucker for the meditate animation), M.chef, Scout 2/0/0/1 (for milk collection and a limited forage ability), and Novice medic.

I'm verylikely to get 'pwned' in every major battle by folks with better character builds, but a wee dog man in a chefs hat pummeling a trando commando with a pipeis too priceless (and just wearing the hat isn't right if it doesn't have a 'culinary master' title to match)

Lunge 2 is definately much more powerful than Lunge 1. Instead of just a posture down, it is an actual knockdown - in PvP, this means it takes longer to recover from a Lunge 2 and most critters in PvE are not affected by posture down. It might not by itself it's not worth getting Master Brawler, Raph posted a great thread about it. It's linked in the **edit** and PP stickypost.

Carbineer... sucks, lol. I would never combine it with Fencer at least, perhaps Swordsman to stack the counter-attack, but that won't work well since both professions have low defense, or Pikeman since both can target action pool specifically.

Carbineer is really good for PvP though, if it's paired with the BH carbine line for speed. Especially with Publish 7... if defenses are nerfed enoughit'll all be about firepower, and BH/carbineer is just that. And (so I hear), if they fix Chargeshot 2, Carbineers will have both an AoE dizzy and AoE KD attack...? Ouch I say.

Looks like I got a little off topic there

And yes, the templates I put in my previous post are notmade forPvP, I would probablypick Fencer / Master Brawler / Pistoleer for that (if it has to be teamed with Fencer...). I picked TKM for their defenses, KD/dizzy attacks and meditate/powerboost, Fencer for defenses and looking-good, Pikeman for defenses and a nice AoE KD, Swordsman for defenses. I just like pure brawling

And no, I haven't tried that yet. In fact, I've never mastered a single brawler profession...

Due to the upcoming change in attribute stacking, there is a big question mark as to what to supplement Fencer with particularly in terms of PVP. There will still be some stacking as folks have mentioned and as such I would agree that Pistoleer is a great choice.

As for PVE, don't let the down trodden Master Creature Handlers fool you. Tanking with a pet is still VERY viable. I have been a Master CH for a long time and recently gave it up to go with a pure PVP build. To excel really well in PVE with CH you need a BE pet with Light Armor and at least 60+% kinetic resist. Have a Doctor buff the tertiary HAM stats of your pet (Constitution and Stamina) and you will be plowing through toughMoBs as if Graul Maulers were nevernerfed.

My current template is as follows:

Master Fencer
Master CH
TKA 0/0/0/4
Medic 0/1/0/0

Creature handler is a very useful skill for both pvp and pve. You just need good pets! For tanks, I have a frenzied graul that has AR 1 and 65% kinetic. I also have several BE made pets that have AR 1 and 60% kinetic. For PvE I have a lot of quick pets that have crippling strikes to run down people I am chasing. Also, the defense line of TKA offers me great extra defenses (at least until it gets nerfed/capped).

If you are looking to a good PvE template then I wouldn't dismiss this. I have solo'd Lord Nyax and his cult, Rebel Act 3, and NS forced labor mines.

*sigh* I am currently Master CH and I am really considering dropping it. My original build was going to be Fencer/CH/Novice Medic+some, but I have not really found creatures to be useful.

There is a part of CH that I REALLY dislike, and that's the creature pulling and storage. We need to set up a camp everytime we need to pull a creature... that is VERY irritating. This has gotten a lot worse since the introduction of vehicles. When I travel to a Baz lair with my Swoop, I have to either 1. Go very slow so my pets can catch up, or 2. Go there and then set up camp and pull out pet.. This is VERY frustrating. /end rant

Also I was considering changing professions because CH has gotten quite boring and very unexciting... I also wanted to do some PvP. (Ever since I got killed by a BH/Pistoleer scatter pistol user before I could even get close enough to do one hit... unbuffed, unarmored....both of us) Oh yah.. also I got quite greedy and want to do Krayt runs. Its impossible for a CH/Fencer to do Krayt runs... so I decided it was time for a change.

Seems like so far people support Master Brawler/TKA or Pistoleer.

If you want to be a PvP god b4 the next patch, do the melee/ranged def. stacking proffesions.

What i think i will soon be trying is Master Doc/Master Fencer. Self-buffing is amazing, im NEVER unbuffed, can wear any armor when i want because i have all my mind stats almost as high as they can go 1100/1100/800, and plus your valuable in groups for rezzing and healing disease/poison.

Just a suggestion, and if you want just buffing, you can try 0440 doc, which gives buffs only a little less than master doc, with 29 less skill points used.

wow. surprised at the diversity. I'm generic fencer/pistol/smug witha few points in Art/Scout/medictill I advance further.

I was even considering not mastering anything. not sure if the mitigation certs are worth anything, but I hear that you can stack the dirty fighting mitigations on top of the 2 melee from non-master fencer and 2 range on top of non-master pistol to achieve mitigation3
