I am not sure this is quite accurate. My current melee def is +96 and I get hit all the time by creatures npc humaniods other players who don't have +100 accuracy. So I don't know if melee/ranged def mods are working properly or not.

As I mentioned, there are still many other modifiers that go into the calculation besides just melee defense and accuracy. My "yes" response was just based upon the 100 vs 101 portion. There is still the specific weapon accuracy modifier, your movement, their movement, weapon type, styling accuracy bonus, and the good old random number generator.

I'm 99.9% sure melee defense decreases the damage you take, and does not increase your chance to avoid an opponents attacks. Has nothing to do with accuracy.

i thought that melee toughness decreased the damage you took. i think melee defense is indeed a modifier to hit.

That would make much more sense than the other way around.

but does melee defense affect dodge, counterattack and such? or is it a separate "roll" to avoid an attack? to be honest, i have little concern with such things. if someone says they're working, i'm happy without knowing HOW they work. for now. but the knowledge certainly wouldn't hurt.

So with the new mods you soloed a Mauler Master? I'm not sure about those I havn't fought them, but is there a marked difference in your abilities since you (I assume) tried without the mods. Numbers don't mean much if they don't make noticeable differences.
