Thread: Things I have so far, post here to add please.
Hey Minerunner take a look at dual wielding? Topic. There is a discussion about shields ![]()
Hey Minerunner, congrats on the new position, hope you will do us some justice ( i am sure you will
) . So one thing that can help actually is just improving the lunge range. See as a real fencer i know we can lunge pretty far if we try. I noticed that at 3m you can use lunge no problem. Its when you are chasing them and the distance is 4m, which i find my self in alot. So either add that speed option for brawlers, or make a new stat for fencers that allows us as we lvl to lunge farther and more efficently. Say maybe 5-6m in the end, giving us a chance to knock are oppent on to there knee and a better chance to win. Also highly agree on a peace positon for you sword, that would be kick *edit* . So that is my thoughts, hope they help.

1. Attack on/off stutter, you better belive I'm gonna put that one in.
I think you might see alot of difference in PVP/PVE if this was fixed, will go along way to ballancing Melee vs Ranged.
2. Attacking while running, Like the stutter I'm putting this one in right below it.
Ditto but the out of range message is really just a statment of the fact that you are moving and the positioningcode is a couple seconds behind your attack que, which might be hard to fix. Reason why ranged aren't effected by this is because there is a much greater margin for lag with a range of 64 as opposed to 4.
3. Defense Mod's soft cap or no? Thats the basic question I have on that one for the devs.
The answer to this will give us more of a standard to base what we can achieve as opposed to what we should achieve in the way of damage mitigation.
4. Damage mitigation, for a class that should be parrying most of the attacks on us we sure don't do it often.
Maybe the answer is in the possible soft cap, but only the answer to number 5 will be able to show fact vs perception.
5. Overall damage dealing and soaking ability.Server statisticsrequest.
I'm gonna ask the devs if they have some numbers we can get, since no one has a damage spam program for us yet. See if the devs can shine some light on how much damage we are dealing as opposed to other classes. Maybe with some hard numbers we can see if we're stacking up.
How's this sound for a top 5?
To the other suggestions I aggree with dern near all of them but we have to focus on the biggest questions/suggestions

Sigh... I hate the fact that someone had to try to be a smart**edit**. I do believe this is a game, and in games I do believe ANYTHING is possible. I mean seriously, if a guy swinging his fists around can emit a red glow (He's got the glow!) then why couldn't a skilled fencer block some of the fire comming at him? I mean seriously, it was an idea, one that wasn't mentioned 10 different times by 10 different people. I could have swore that a forum such as this was to get several ideas and not just the same idea with different wording from multiple ppl. I guess I was mistaken. But thank you for pointing out how only Jedi's can do certain things due to the fact that this is so "life-like". I will, hence forth, make sure that all of my ideas are based on reality. I mean after all, with all this interplanetary travel, phasers, carrying multiple camps/houses/creatures/in my personal inventory (I guess I have REALLY big pockets), being able to have emitting glowing red streaks from my fists when I fight(red LED vibro knuckles), why in the wrld would I have ever thought that i could block a phaser with my sword? Silly me.
Dear Sillyperson,
You are most welcome, for letting me point to you, the error you made in beinging up the idea that a regular sword could block a blaster fire. If you will notice, Jedis use a weapon called a lightsaber. This lightsaber is made of energy. The blaster fire, also created from energy. It would seem that the Jedi and their ability to block this blaster fire, stem from the use of this lightsaber.
I do applaud you for thinking AND posting of an idea that I have not seen yet, and hope you do have more pf them. I do not ask for you to base your ideas on reality based facts. I do ask that you put a little more effort in thinking through your idea, to see if has, as I see, a blatant error. Sure it would be cool to do that..but not feasable without the use of a lightsaber.
As for the GLOW effect, its a game and should have some fancy effects, cause as you said yourself, anything is possible in a game.
PS this is my most serious post on the boards yet....
I guess this is my reasoning on the subject of blocking laser/blaster fire. If you recall that lasers can be reflected off surfaces (mirrors, silver, basically anything that has a reflective surface) since laser is "energy" which is mostly compiled of "light". It's pretty basic, maybe not implemented well in the StarWars saga's. I do understand your point. The thing that bugged me most was the fact that you quoted my suggesstion and blantenly mad me sound stupid. There are better ways to get constructive criticisim across. Several movies in fact have used this idea. Unfortunately I can't think off hand exact names. And yes laser/blaster fire is energy and the energy consists of both light and heat I could also assume that it would just burn right through it. Just trying to point out that the idea wasn't completely insane, and it had some validity.
Also another thing that would help that someone may have already mentioned ( I haven't read all these posts due to lack of time atm) ashield in the opposing hand (or offhand as some would call) would be great if they were a bit better than psg's. Unfortunately psg's basically are temporary due to the condition going down so fast. Maybe they could come out with a type of energy shield that could reflect blaster fire back at the source with a chance of it absorbing and losing condition. That way we could use their own attack against them and they would think twice about rampantly firing upon us. Oh yea, make the shield useable by only fencers who have the second hand free. =)
1. I find it unusual that a Master Brawler should be able to lunge with a 1-handed sword better than a Master Fencer. Yet a Master Brawler gets /melee1hlunge2 and a Master Fencer is limited to /melee1hlunge1. If anything I would tend to belive that should be the other way around. However, I do not wish to detract from the Master Brawler's abilities. Could we consider at least adding /melee1hlunge2 somewhere in theFencer profession? Possibly even a /melee1hlunge3 for being a Master Fencer?
2. I second the notion that coming to a screeching halt when running for your life to perform a Dodge or Autodefend, and then standing there as if rooted to the ground is extremely aggravating.
3. If ranged attackers can fire their weapons as they flee or chase, melee should be able to at the very least be able to swing at a target in front of them while in pursuit without having to come to a complete halt.
4.If a melee is running to engage a firing stationary ranged combatant, the melee will have taken severe losses by the time the target is reached. On the real life combat field this happens as well. However there is an additional factor in favor of the melee once they reach their target... momentum of the charge. Could we consider the possibility of making the first attack an automatic"charge" attack if the melee was already running with /attack on and suddenly stops to make the initial swing at a stationary target? Perhaps on the scale of one of the /melee1hhitX manuevers, but with a lower HAM cost to compensate for the "situationality" of the attack. This could help to even the scales a bit once we finally get to our target.
5. I also like the idea of adding more variety to both the types of swords in the game,or at least variable/customizable appearances. As for the swirling red action lines could go either way... but I'd like the ability to turn them off. Too many melee in close quarters all making red twirlies could make it hard to see what's going on.
6. I also like the idea of a "sheathed" appearance for an inactive sword. Perhaps a sheath could be something a tailor could create, with both hip and back versions. I imagine it would act as another small container, but only for swords. If you put a sword in your normal storage it is gone form view as it is now. If you put your sword in your sheath container it shows up in the graphic as sheathed. Asthetics aside, this has the added benefit of helping you locate your primary sword if you happen to have several similar ones in your inventory. Not only could this work for Fencers, but I'm sure Pistoleers and such might appreciate holsters thatwork similarly.
That's all I can think of for now. I sincerely appreciate the commitment and service you are providing for this community.

Some of the ideas on here are great..some..um well...
Anyhow I think being able to attack/defend without stopping should be something to add in also. It's such a pain when your running/autorunning to stop defend/get ready to attack, and then run again. That should be one of the first changes/fixes made.

Another thing that sounds more like a Jedi move is maybe the ability to have your sword/baton be able to block or "absorb" some amount of the ranged shots being fired. Yes I know we are not jedi's but i would say that since most jedi use lightsabres (a sword type) and they can perform these manuevers, why can't we perform maybe a little less or a lot less (depending on how you look at it) effective manuever.
Theres a reason why its a jedi move and not a fencer / swordsman technique.....
I feel that they are not going to give us to much at one time to insure that they don't have to nerf us later. at max. I think we will get both an auto-defend/dodge/attack toggle and attack while running. likely only one of them.
On a positive note let them know much we enjoy the fact that master fencer does not equal Stun Baton user, and we would really enjoy seeing master fencers using deferent weapons everythingfrom daggers to stun batons.
