Thread: Why did you decide to become a fencer?

Why? Because when one is weidling a blaster or ranged weapon in SWG, one becomes just like the next guy. I stand out in a PvP battle. How do I stand out? I'm in among the Enemy players, fighting with honor, looking them in the eye, as I thrust my cold blade of death into their hearts.

Believe it or not, I actually was spared once for being a swordsman. A group of 5 Rebels ran into me as I was doing Imperial Missions, but they only incapped me, and the leader proclaimed me "spared" due to him being a fencer as well.

I respect that,

I selected Fencer before the game ever came out..it makes for excellent RP.

And there is nothing better than being in a room full of enemies spouting off phrases like "Touche'" etc.

because fencers are gangster

The attic was less to us from the cellar the bones like the attic let them have it let them stay in the attic. When they sometimes come down the stairs at night and stand perplexed behind the door and headboard of the bed brushing that chalky skull with chalky fingers with sounds like the dry rattling of a shutter. Thats what I sit up in the dark to say.

My first SWG character and my current main is my Bounty Hunter (currently 2-4-4-4 working to master) I played the Bounty Hunter I play in SWG as a character in a Star Wars RPG campaign a while back and when me and my friends decided to start playing SWG I decided to recreate my character from that campaign since he was loved by myself and my group. Personally though, I have a history of playing the "non-uber" classes in MMORPGs. I like playing a class that people consider broken or weak, and are thus rare, and then proving them wrong. For example, if any of you have played DAOC my first character was a Blademaster long before they got fixed and were still considered weak and broken, much like the Fencer is now. The Blademaster got fixes later on though and suddenly became flavor of the month. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened to Fencers.

I also love sword-play like people have already posted, and like the idea of using a sword in an age of guns. Like Obi-wan said, not as clumsy or random as a blaser. An elegant weapon, for a more civilized time. I can solo **edit** near anything in the game with my Bounty Hunter (also 1-1-0-0 CH with a GSP and novice medic) Nothing is a real challenge for me short of Giant Kimos (I've taken regular and enraged ones solo) or Krayts (never fought one) I can also take whole squads of Stormtroopers without even using my pet, just gotta use good tactics and have plenty of Stims. Using my pet and LLC I cleared out the Imperial base on Lok all by my lonesome last night (I was chasing a mark down there and got bored waiting around for him ). When I want a challenge or get sick of grinding Investigation I play my Fencer.

Besides, once I master Bounty Hunter AND Fencer, I'll be master of the two least mastered classes in the game

At the beginning of the game, I planned to be Master CH, get a tier of pistoleer, and have polearms specialization. Polearms was fun, but I dropped it later since I rarely used it. Later I mastered CH and spent nearly all my skill points dabbling in various combat professions and Medic. The game became boring having nothing to aim for, so I decided I would free up some points for Onehanded specialist just to try it out. It was good fun, but I hadn't enough skill points to be effective with a sword, so I dropped it. I later picked it up again, dropped it again, and then took up Commando since I was at yet another stand-still in skill points. Commando wasn't my thing...the weapons were too slow, and the ones with better range all used charges and were extremely expensive to buy, and were inaccurate as well. I pondered for a while on what would be more exciting and neet...it was then that I heard my sword calling to me. I had grown attached to my swords when I had taken up the class before, and had put them on display in my house so I could remember those times. Now they were calling to me...and I decided it was time to stop dabbling and become a Master of the One Hand. And here I am today, 0-0-2-2 and I am unable to win a duel with a novice marksman because all he has to do is run and I have no way of hitting him. But it's darn fun when they think they're so good that they don't have to move

These are theprimary reasons that I chose fencer:

1) I didn't want to be like every other guy out there weilding some lightening gun or flame thrower (though cool weapons, everyone seems to be after bounty hunter and commando). Don't get me wrong, this is Star Wars, guns are fine by me, but doesn't mean I want to be just like everyone else.

2) I like the idea of being able to beat things actually based on my skill and abilities (i.e. personal resistances and skill immunities granted by the fencer) as opposed to being decked out in heavy armor and launching massive amounts of heavy weaponry from a range. Maybe if they'd give us the ability to drive AT-ST's or AT-AT's then the idea would apeal to me more, but for now, if I want to be a heavy armor terminator type I'll go play Planetside and get in some Maxx Armor. I like being asked "Is that armor that you're wearing" about twice a day when wondering around doing missions and such weiring my standard uniform (made by a tailor, and no, I'm not a wookie).

3) It is my firm belief that if the developers do things right then Fencers and other brawler classes will become more important once space gets added because then all these riflemen won't nesisarily have the extreem ranges that they can use to take people out. Ship to ship close quarters fighting should be a sevier disadvantage for gun weilding types as there will be blind corners and such that they'll be forced to close with us to deal with. Means too that you'll likely see more pistoleers and carbineers surfacing again, which is good since your average rebel trooper is supposed to be a pistoleer and the average storm trooper is supposed to be a carbineer from the looks of things.

4) And finally, because (and I'm sorry, I can't remember the name of the person who posted this) I agree that it's nice to run across another fencer and instantly be on endeared friendly terms able to talk shop and have a friendly duel with each other rather than just another guy with a gun.

5) And yeah, I happen to like swords and the martial arts too. So that helps.

To be honest when I first started (the day after the initial launch) I wanted to be a swordsman. But all I had was 3 melons and a survival knife (which turns out to be a one handed weap). After a few days.. I found out that being a fencer was alot of fun. So I decided to continue on this profession.

Now being a blademaster..it is reallyALOT of fun. I never regreted my decision to stay as a fencer.

The life of a Kensai, the calling, the honor, the life.

My Master called to me and asked me to be free and follow the code to break the back of the Empire. As a Samurai I was bound to do his bidding. Shortly thereafter asI was out in the world learning how correct my master was, word was sent to me that he had been killed by the Empire for being a Rebel Alliance Spy. Though enraged at this I remained calm on the outward appearance and have since dedicated my life twice over to not only completeing my mission as my master asked of me but fulfilling the spirit of his words also. I took up sword because I could pump out damage faster than being a pistoleer. No, I do not joke. I can use my pistol and wind up in melee, or fire a CDEF, wind up in melee, and dish out damage better than a pistol.

Being a Doc, I can take all the damage that I want.

1. I wanted to be a melee

2. Fencer seemed to be one of the least common professions during beta

3. I figured it was in no danger of ever getting hit by the nerf bat
