Fencer Archive
Thread: All Fencers (and Devs) should read this are you missing out? Probably...
Right now I am:
Brawler 0-1-0-0 (Cant change anymore if I want fencer to stay)
Marksman 0-1-0-0 (cant change if I want to use any gun...chose pistol *gasp*)
Medic 3-0-3-4 (Do not want to change, I like healing and enjoy crafting meds)
Scout 4-0-4-1 (Cant change if I want to keep CH and I do, very fun, and the 1 is needed to make basic camps and call out pets and med droid)
Now it gets rough...
Fencer 0-1-1-1 Can add two more skills due to exp gains but why at this point? I am running out of room and the present state of us makes me sad.)
Pistoleer 1-0-0-0 Can add one more but feel like I am cheating on my fencer side if I do that...
Creature Handler 2-3-2-3 (I love this and will keep working up but I am running out of room fast for Skill points)
So here I am, at a point where I can choose to stick it out as a fencer, or go pistoleer...but I am sure I am keeping my CH skills.
The more and more I look at it, Fencer may have to go and I hate to have to do that, but as the first poster very clearly illustrated, we are sorta screwed in many areas is we want to be true to our professions.
/sigh
decisions decisions....![]()
Its kind of strange how my experience as a fencer is different from many elses.
This is not a gloat, I am not uber, but this is all true:
I have only fought 6 duels, but won all 6 of them.
I use the best sword I can find, and always 15% spd powerups (I have many factory crates of them)
I am a 2/2/1/1 fencer, and can solo easily on Yavin4, and get about 60k xp in an hour, i kid not.
I use armor, (60% kinetic chitin, which in actuality prevents about 80% kinetic damage :seriously i lie not, plus it's sliced for low encumb) I dont use specials (when I do i swith to the old vblade) except for blind (always), body 2, and lunge (when they start to run to their friends for help).
I use good B stims, (380ish heal) yes I am a novice medic, and always will be probably
I use good k18 rations for health and mind regen. I have crates of these. They work wonders when fully experimented on. (Im a master artisan, but not for long;but Ihave lots of credits and can afford the best equipment; i sell rare iron on the side)
I have a droid and pet for backup but I usually only use them for the group xp bonus, I tell them to "stay" before I go into a fight. I get about 40% more xp per kill this way.
Fencers are not uber, but we're not the red-headed step child everyone thinks we are.
Yep i am another former fencer as well. I think the Devs are trying to push us out to give those who stay something speical. Well i am notpayingthis monthly fee to not have fun and after 3.4.0.2 i was just getting more angry and the lack of balance and lack of attention thr devs paid us.
I then found myself looking at pistoleer, what they get
Knockdown 30
Posture change 20
Dodge 30 (same as fencers)
Defense vs stun 20
Defense vs blind 20
Defense vs dizzy 20
Melee Defense 12
Range defense 14
Wow that matches up pretty close to a lot of the fencers defenses...i realize that fencer get no real advantage in the end then. Also i get a range of useful weapons, the moves are cool, i would rather do a cop roll then walk around with my trusty night stick...and swtiching over has been a breeze...after 24 hours i am almost a pistoleer.
So to all those who stay i will always hold highest respect for you over anyone else. I really hope my theory that teh devs are trying to push out as many fencers to see who will stick with it, then give all those who did a great patch that rewards all your hard work. Other than that i am out....Good luck everyone

man u guys must be doign something wrong cause when i pvp i usually kill 4 people before i die. I bust off a KD then keep on running ( yes even tho it shows them down on the ground) and do my lvl 3 body hit, and they are dead in 2 hits. EZ i dont know what u guys are whining about.
HAHAH Thats because you fighting NOOBS ....try taking a range and melee one on one on the same level as you.btw only time you can kill 4 people is when they not aimingat you..you wouldn't last 1 min if 4 people have you target it and blast away..to kill a person with 2 hit using body hit 3 ..they must have 400 hp ..so don't call us whiner when you don't have your fact straight
Just my 2 cents, for what its worth... Ya thats 2 cents...
I think Fencer rocks. Ok so we are a little weak in PvP one on one, got nerfed pretty bad on the last patch. Maybe cuz we had noone to represent, I'm not sure.
In a fight I can hold my own pretty well. Get a ranged player into a confined area and I will take him EVERY time. WHY because they are so used to kiting that they run into walls and corners and can't get away. Like being trapped in a cage.
I have also found the beauty of armor. A full seet of marine armor minus the stupid helmet. I replaced it with a chiten helm. A nice shot of Moun Gold or a great mind buff, and I am unstopable. I have been tanking Mountain Squill, 3 to 4 in a row like this. After the Mind crashI need to sit a few minutes and rest, BUT if I got a good mind buff on top it, next target.
The key I found to tanking is the right weapon for the right job. I have three weapons and con my targets before going in. The RED cons are always special so check em. Some have AR1 or AR2, some have huge kinetic resists. ALWAYS use the right weapon.
Ohh and Stun batons are great. Saved my ass so many times... In cases I find it the only weapon that can bring creatures down.. ArachnesorBark Mites for example.. I can put a mean hurting on some mobs as well.
I am long standing after the ranged players are all dead or running around like decapatated chickens and aggroing everything within 50m on them.
Ohh and the roleplay part of these characters is unmatched. Our low numbers alone are an incredable opportunity. I say have a blast I do...
Up until recently I felt as if nothing was working and I started mixing and matching weapons, armor and playstyle and behold, a new life was born into this class for me.
I am also not saying this class doen'thas issues becuz it does. And so do others.. However, I work around them or find ways to balance by other means. Things do need to be fixed, but I refuse to be a BH,CH,Commando,Pistoleer or any other uber class with 200,000 ppl playing them.
I am a fencer on Valcyn and go by the name Zenah.. I always love to help out the novice blademasters, so if you ever want to hunt with me, look me up. I spend alot of time on Tat or Naboo. Not to mention you find me on Endor alot as well
Fencer-2/2/1/1 Doctor-2/3/1/1 Scout-4/0/4/0 Marksman-1/0/0/2
PS I will be dropping all ranged support and some scoutas I ramp up to Blademaster and Master Doc.... I will be busting into Fencer-3/2/1/2 soon...
Don't worry the game is going through changes every week.. Nerf here, Nerf there, Nerf everywhere..One day something close to balance will occure.. hopefully
Until then stick to your guns.. er um.. swords and raise issues.
Fencer is tough and its not for everyone. I am finding better ways to grind XP and move along. And believe it or not its a fun grind. If you want a FPS then try XBOX live or PS2.. If you want to roleplay and have fun doingharcore battlewhat better class is there..
I can only imagine how ranged feel running around kiting saying to themselves.. "OMG I hope he doesn't catch me" and me saying... "Pause for one second and your dead"
Be the squeaky wheel.. and people will fix you..
S'ulli, Im sorry to hear your unfortunate experiences with Fencer and completely understand your decision, afterall Iwas a Bio Engineer, talk about useless profession, but thats for another forum.
Just to let any of those who may be thinking about going the way of the fencer, or not after reading this thread, know this----Myself and another mid-level Fencer named Karoo were able to take down a giant dune kimo with the assistance of my non-ch CL 14 mountain krevol and my pre-master medic skills alone, not a single marksman in site..... He used warcry 2 and we wailed on it with stun batons, sure it took forever but we did it and neither of us were wearing armor.
Now it may have just been a luck, cause when we went for our second giant Kimo, Karoowas hit with mind disease and the Kimo would not stand still like it did the first time----it kept running away from us after i bled it----hence our weakness. We also beat the crap out of a regular kimo but didnt kill it, it warped to its lair cause because we chased it all over the desert.
But I can think of nothing more rewarding in the game as a fencer than:
1: Actually find and work with another fencer on a secondary planet like Lok or any planet for that matter
2: Take down a high level creatures with little help and your trusty sword
But this is what "I" find fun and thats what it really about as S'ulli fully explained.
I hope when the fencer profession is finally addressed, all of those who put their swords into storage
will have the urge to wield them again.

Whoops i completely forgot to mention i have no urge to do pvp....and doubt i ever will considering the state its in now.
I do believe if your going mainly pvp.....choose an additional prof like pistoleer or the lesser used carbineer to mix it up with melee.

I also had an epiphany a little while ago.
I was totally psyched initially to charge for Master Fencer.
I picked up Scout just for Exploration - so I could run things down better.
Then, I found my friends were all shoot-em-up types. Grouping with them was frustrating, because they'd kill everything before I closed on them. So I picked up Pistol too. I developed a play-style of "shoot it a bit, run in while shooting, then hack the rest of it to bits." That was fun.
Then, quite by accident I think, I got a twinkle in my eye for Scouting. I tried a little bit of trapping. A little bit of camping. Of treking into the wilds. I was instantly hooked.
Now I'm charging full-bore towards Ranger. But, I'm still pursuing both 1-hand melee and pistoleer. It makes for fun hunting: hide, shoot for a while, hold the critter at bay as long as possible, throw a few traps, then whip out the sword when it closes and make it wish it had run the other way. Hah-hah.
I'll still be going after a few Fencing skills, as many as my skill points will allow. And I still have a special place in my heart for melee and all it's woes in this game.
In the end, you gotta do what makes ya happy. That's what games are for, right?
