There's ~3% base chance to dodge. You'd expect about 7 dodges over 210 attacks if you have zero dodge mods. This was part of the accuracy test listed on the pistoleer forums.

There may be something wrong the skill mod bonuses, or their effect might be very small. I did not have a test with a target with lots of dodge or any other active defenses.

I suppose there's a possibility that the weapon in hand could have an effect on the dodge rate. I'll have to consider that for future tests. Are you sure you're not just noticing it more often because there's a specific animation, though?

Since starting Fencer I think I have dodged about 5 times that I can remember - ever.

Melee toughness seems to have little to no effect on the damage taken.

I think Xarthas made a great post - and that's coming from a Master!

NOTHING that cons green to you should hit you that frequently, it shouldn't be about "well it hit you but with reduced damage" it should not even hit you! A Master Fencer can't out manuver a gorg at least a majority of the time?! That's no good.

At least it seems that the melee woes are catching the eyes of the Devs. Maybe this will be resolved soon. I sure hope so!

This is officially my first post on the official forums. I'm a fencer in Scylla 0-2-0-1 yet my profession plans are much greater. I need to know what the deal is with the defense mods. When they are working PROPERLY will the mods benefit the character or the profession? What I mean by this is if I have Defense vs KD +20 from each TKA and Fencer will my characters vs KD be a total of 40 in any combat or +20 only while using a 1h sword or unarmed???

No, I'm not just noticing more because of the nifty animation. I'm also dodging when I'm standing (a little side-step compared to the melee jump-back-and-then-jump-back-into-the-frey). I'll upload and post the pics now, give me a few.

Here we go then:

Comfirmation messages I wanted to turn timestamps on, but they don't work ex post facto. These next three are all from one mission where I was shot at no more than fifty times (3 guys, 2 or 3-hitted each)

I am 4-4-2-3

I avg. 1-3 dodges per fight. .And I fight Tuskens just about every night; so I am battle tested. I do not have any extra modifiers.

I have even dodged riffle shots. Dodge works..just not often enough for the amount of HAM I have to use to out damage the enemy.

Having done more accuracy experiments, something I have noticed is that the chance to dodge or have an active defense go off goes UP with the chance to be hit. The improvement seems to be better than linear, until the to-hit cap (which seems to be 95%) is hit. This is described in the weapon accuracy thread:
