I dont know how many of you are halo fans, but in Halo 2 they have duel weilding where you can pick up one weapon and go find any other weapon to pick up and use. The two triggers will operate each weapon respectivly. This is super sweet since you can use the energy sword the elites had...imagine having a pistol in one hand and the sword in the other *drool*

I always liked the idea of crafting 1 schematic to give us the 2-weapon animation. Much easier to implement and balance. Can make a variety of these schematics to give mroe damage, defense, speed, etc.

Sure it is.. and it's almost identical to several threads that occured a year ago.

But it's definately something people like and talk about.

Problem is that the codeing for duel wielding animations is probably 10 times more complex than the codeing of the damage model.

The Devs would have to produce a whole new set of 3D Motions, and incorperate the proper checks to see if they should be used as opposed to single handed movements.

Damage model wise it would just be additional database calculator checks likely simply the same kind of codeing used when hitting with scatter hit type moves.

I clearly remember that a Red Named One (or was it the former Blue Named One) stated that all motion capture for dual wielding was already recorded.

Or was it ?

I might be wrong, but i've heard some talk about combat being rebalanced so that only the weapon you weild gave you the defence of that tree. Ie. Fencer/pistoleer would only have fencer defences with a sword, and pistoleer defences with a pistol.

If duel weild were to come into play, with both a pistol and a sword, would this mean that holding both together would keep the full defence capabilities of both professions?

Apart from that little question i'd just like to add that I would love to be able to hold 2 swords. Maybe even change some of the animations to hold them crossed across your characters chest

I find it likely that if duel weilding goes in that you will only be able to weild like catagories of weapons. Pistol+pistol, Onehandedmelee+onehandedmelee.

But even if both are allowed so the only thing that would be effected would be Dodge which caps at 125 anyway, and the addition of Ranged Mitigation.

Melee Defence and Ranged Defence still stack but cap at 125.

Contrary to the fact that I post about dual-wielding quite often, I actually share Minerunner's view that I'm not in a hurry to see it, especially if it is a burden from a development standpoint. I try to avoid second-guessing what's a priority for the devs, I'm not really aware of how different teams are set up, but some things are quite obvious. I think we will see combat rebalance, smuggler revamp, JTL, and possibly even changes to the social professions well before we see dual wielding. And I would prefer to see some GCW and SW other content first.

The reason I comment on it often is that I would like to at least raise awareness of the fact that different players have different expections of dual wielding. Different impacts on fighting and gameplay, and of course different cultural flavors and themes as this thread illustrates.

If we are getting it, and if discussion here has any impact, I would like to see it get done in a way that satisfies everyone and doesn't throw us out of balance again.

I think if done right it will have built in balances that will fit right in with whatever we can expect from the combat revamp.
