Thread: Mind & Matter The Fencer's 2 Problems
Well, mind cost way, the curved sword is only like 1 point cheaper than the 2HCS, but it's also only like .4 faster than the sword too.And most of the pistols have lowermindcosts, but even faster rates of fire,So it still kinda sorta balances out, on a HAM-per-second basis.
For me, as an impartial ignorant observer, the problem that Fencers and Pikemen have seem to be the low raw damage-per-second of their weapons compared to swordsmen and tka. One way to balance this out would be to make the 1h and polarms lower-ham. Another way would be to increase speed. Another would be to increase damage.
I'd like to point out that Mind cost problems aren't so much to do with the HAM costs on weapons but rather the HAM costs on special moves.
EasyMcRhinoPants was comparing the Mind cost of several different weapons type.... this doesn't really matter because the special moves of the Fencer have massive Mind multipliers.
For example, with 500 Focus and around a 38 Mind cost on my Ryyk Blade, everytime I use One Hand Hit 2, I 'burn' around 55 Mind due to the Mind cost multiplier of the special move. From a standard Brawler Mind pool of 500 - 700, that's a lot.
Now consider that while a Fencer is fighting, the opponent may well be hitting him in the head.
Now consder that the Fencer's Mind cannot be healed in battle.
A Pikeman 'burns' through Health and a Swordsman, Action. Both these can be buffed by Docs and healed during battle. Also, with the speed cap, Pikemen and Swordsmen can easily hit the speed limit. My Swordsman friend even has a 2h Curved Swords with a sliced speed of 2.0, more damage than any of my weapons, and AP2. Go figure.
I find it ironic that the Fencer's 3 most important stats are Mind, Focus, and Willpower. I honestly think I would've made a better Fencer if my starting profession had been a Medic.
All of this is why so many Fencers are forced into using the Vibroblade or Gaderiffi Baton... and I didn't become a Fencer so I could wield a little dagger or a stick.
Thanks, Eiloo'li. My husband is a medic and I buff his mind regularly, I only wish I could buff my own as well... sure could use it! I read on the race thread that you'rea Twi'lek as well, so you probably know what I'm talking about! =P
