I think the devs are getting things slightly wrong with the way they are handling the release of information. In the past they said a lot of stuff and ended up taking flak when things didn't turn out as advertised. The controlled release of (more-or-less) finalised documents is good and if we have to wait for them that's fine. Here they haven't stuck to the plan.
I don't know what this news is but I have every faith it's every bit as good as we're being told. If they'd come out with it in a Feature we'd have been pleasantly surprised. As it is people are in a spin because they feel like information is being held back and there's nothing more annoying than someone who has a secret but won't tell. Not to mention the fact that Minerunner and others have been made to look silly.
Tell us stuff or tell us nothing. Just don't tell us you'll tell us stuff and then tell us nothing.

Uhm, did the devs have anything to do with this anticipation?

I don't understand the dev's mindset. Why are they trying to hide the info about the CU? We're customers! We deserve to see what's in store for this game. The CU forums need to be public and the dev's need to stop being so "hush hush" about it.

My understanding was the correspondents were told that news was to be released. Hence Minerunner's post and the anticipation. Then when the information did not come out we saw the disappointment.
If they had not told the correspondents - whose job is to pass information between SOE and its customers - that this news would be posted, or if they had stipulated that it should be kept secret, we would not be in this situation.

Being hush hush is how they keep us paying for the game for another 2 years until the CU comes out.

You know, I'm really trying not to put this all on Minerunner, because I like him, but none of the other correspondants had a problem not leaking word of the news. Looking at this as the devs fault is really unfair. If you're asking them to withhold information from the correspondants, than there is absolutely no point to the correspondant position at all.

I'm not sure I agree with that. I've been a programmer for 20 years now (12 as a professional) and of the many things I've learned in my career, one of them is never give details of enhancements until they're done. If the devs have an idea as to certain enhancements, sharing those changes with CS's, FC's, et. al. is fine, but giving a hard release date of them is a horrible idea. Specs get changed, scope creeps, developers get moved from one project to another... any number of deltas can change release dates.
I still place the onus on the devs on this one. MineRunner was told a date, got excited, and shared as much as he could. The dev team changed that date, and MineRunner was hung out to dry by the rest of us for it.

Doh, hit enter instead of tab to fill out text for the message lol
Anyways, i know what the news is... not from an NDA leak but because i'm part of our alpha team, so don't go reporting me =P
And it really is some cool HUGE news for us all, i'm excited to see it as well to be honest. However, things in the land o' devs is hectic right now and they are trying to get some stuff strightended out and put together before they release much more info. Patience is a vertue and trust me, in this case it'll pay off 10 fold (at least i hope lol)
Just thought i'd post to clear things up and keep people aware

though i agree with the orginal poster i have to say that the reason why things like this are kept quiet is because in the situation of an MMO it can become quite complex. Changes to the game may or may not stay as they were originally designed.
The reason for our alpha testing with the "community leaders" is so that we can help shape what is going to been seen by the rest of the consumers, there are often market testings in nearly every product you buy or even movies to go watch. If the dev's were to come out with some documents stating one thing then we all get into the testing and find that it didn't work and that its been changed then these forums would errupt with an outcry that the dev's lied to people and this and that.
In the end its much easier to wait until the near final product has been confirmed then release that information to the general public. It sucks from the gamers aspect but its a good bussiness practice and after all, SOE and LucasArts are bussinesses =P

It's not a matter of the devs wanting to hide information, it's a matter of how to appropriately disseminate it that was the issue in this case. And I agree with the reasonings they have given for holding off on releaseing it, even if it is takeing longer to get it out than was expected.
