Thread: Who wants Raph to tell us?
First read what Raph has to say in this thread:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=fencer&message.id=15572
Then respond if you want him to tell us by saying yes, no or unsure.
Raphayl is a she. Sorry it just bothers me for some reason that peeps cant get that right. As for the dodge thing well I am one of those that thinks sony should be required to publish the combat formulas and keep them updated with each "patch". So yes I would like to know but I respect her opinion enough to be left in the dark. She seems to think it would hurt fencer somehow if this got out and is debating it with herself as what is the better choice. So if you think she should release the facts maybe you should present a solid arguement as to why. She is a very reasonable person and would be more than willing to read your side of the arguement.

PS in case you missed is Raphayl is a she not a he. ![]()
First off I didnt intend that to come off as a flame and if I hurt the original posters fealings well I am sorry. 2nd off I cant belive I missed bolding and underlining one of the gender refs. Then to top it all off I left out a word in my ps
. Not my day for clever posts aparently.
Thats ok I am sure one of the gramar nazis will come in and try to correct me and make me feal much better. ( psst Legwand you there bud?)

Imo, the only reason she would not want to post it is if it does indeed still stack. Reading the FAQ it seems Raphayl does not want fencer to become a FOTM, look at the portion on "who should choose fencer". If it does not stack I believe Raph would be more than happy to let everyone know and get the non-fencers out now. Which leaves us with the possibilities that it stacks to a cap or stacks indefinitely. Which of those it is I cannot surmise. On the other hand, the massive melee/ranged defense modifiers still stack (without question) which somewhat weakens the case that not releasing this info would in fact get dabblers to leave. Sigh, I'm confused, but I'd still rather not know.

Can we please let this go.
It does a disservice to Raph - AND the Fencing community.

I appreciate the support, guys.

OK first off Valdo its DYING not DIEING, if you intellect has anything to do with your ability to spell i think you must be pretty freaking dumb. As for the issue of this board I thikn HE/HER who knows? needs to tell us, i mean why not? shes sitting there saying "i could tell them, but its more fun to screw with them and annoy everyone.". What is her reasoning? people with pistoleer/fencer have it anyhow, why not tell people how it works? And btw the ranger corespondent is much more devoted and actually HELPS his people.
Yes this is a flame, if someone flames i flame them back, btw get that thing that crawled up your ass and died out of there, its hurting your ability to see through your eyes.

No, it's not more fun. That is not my attitude at all, which you would know if you were really a member of this community. And if you read more than you posted you would discover that I HAVE told everyone. I have been for weeks now, in dozens of posts. It is YOU guys that refused to believe me. So turn that finger of judgement back around to its source.
What is her reasoning?
Yes, perhaps an explanation of that might help, but it would take an open mind to understand... sothis is written for those that do. I don't expect the rest to understand:
***
First... I don't have any problem with dabblers, as someone said I did. I dabble some myself. The game was designed to allow dabbling, and you can't even spend all 250 points if you don't dabble at least a little bit. I can see how this assumpion may have come about, by some of the things I had said in certain contexts. By all means, I want people to enjoy whatever part of this profession helps them or makes them happy. I just didn't want the profession to come back to being a FOTM, and be metaphorically raped while they do it. The last time I posted information about Dodge stacking this place was flooded with people just here for the Dodge stacking. The posting style rapidly degenerated from what we come to expect here.
Rational discussions turned into flamewars and namecalling. It got so bad the Developers finally began to start suggesting that they had overpowered "FENCERS." No mention of any other profession. The name of Fencers became synonymous with "uber" and "min-maxing" and "FOTM" and "impending nerf" on just about every combat forum out there. It really began hurting the profession, and although my motives for posting it were good, I soon regretted it because of the damage it caused the profession and those that call it their home by those treating it like a cheap motel.
In fact, that analogy is exactly how it felt. Imagine you were a traveller, and stopped at a little farmhouse beside the road one night during a long journey and wanted or needed a room for the night. Are you going to come in and be respectful of those that call it their home? Are you going to understand that by even being there you disrupt their normal activities? Are you going to be polite and not try and stir up trouble? Just about everyone would. If you came into that house, treating it like a cheap motel throwing your clothes and stuff all over the place, creating a big mess for the occupants to clean up; and treating those occupants like they are your personal servants, or "in the way," or degrading them and knocking them around... you would expect "Gramps and the boy" to grab their buckeye shotguns and shoot you and bury you out back in the compost heap.
When the patch came that beefed up the mobs and made people start to believe Dodge no longer stacked, the forum began to shape back up again rapidly. Except for the fact that every other post was related to Dodge in some way, things began to shape up and progress.
Now the Developers want us to paint a picture for them about how we want to shape Fencer for the future. Who should help to shape that? A person that only has 2-3 boxes just for a single Dodge mod, or someone that takes the profession seriously and has the Fencer profession as a major, if not primary, element in their template? Those that view the profession as a whole enity will be interested in improving the profession as a whole. Those that view the profession as +105 points of stackable Dodge will only be interested in chages that apply to that stackable Dodge, even if it holds back the profession as a whole. I know not all who just want Fencer for a few skill boxes are like this... some are very remarkable people and I'm quite fond of them; but they are the exception and not the rule.
So here we are getting ready to make our mark on Fencer for the future, and I discover the truth about Dodge again. To be perfectly honest, I was already 75% sure that it still stacked from simple tests that I did. I decided to spend the time thoroughly testing it in the hope that I would prove myself wrong. I thought that if I could discover there was a cap, or that stacking was removed, or somehow changed that the people truly interested in working with the profession and taking it seriously would help to shape the Fencer of tomorrow; and those that have no interest in the success of Fencers as long as that Dodge reamins in the same boxes they currently have would find another FOTM.
Now I am sitting here with knowledge that I know people want, but also know will throw the community back into chaos at a very inappropriate time. I know that if it gets thrown back into chaos by revealing the truth about Dodge that it would be my fault again. So do I post the information and make one half (the majority of which are temporary) of the community happy, or turn re-flood the profession with "Uber-chasers" while trying to make an impression on the Developers about how they should change our template in these upcoming combat changes?
Therefore I made this post:
Wellllllllllll... It just so happens that I now know for certain the reality of the Dodge (and Block and Counterattack) stacking and cap issues. (Both as tested and now Developer confirmed.)
The only thing is I'm wondering if it might not be a better thing for the Fencer profession to let it remain an unknown element.
But, seriously, sometimes things are best left unknown.
If you really read the words I said, at no point in this post did I say that I was going to withhold the information. All that was said was that I questioned if it would be productive or not. I was even kind of kidding a little, because I thought anyone that was familiar with this profession and my posting style would be able to read between the lines and understand that I HAD told them. Some did, but when I began seeing that many still wanted me to post it plainly for all to see I became concerned. I didn't want to make the choice that I thought could damage the community at the worst possible time, so I decided I would let the community decide for itself and posted this:
I'm kind of at an impasse. I'm here to serve the community and the profession. I can serve the community by posting the results, and hurt it at the same time by the knowledge becoming public. Or I can protect the community by letting it stay unknown, and hurt everyone's faith in me.
Ok, what do the rest of you think? Do you want me to post the answer, regardless of the impact? If enough of you really want it posted, I will.
Again, I never said that "I" intended to withhold the information. But once a bandwagoner, always a bandwagoner I guess. After a single person, misquoted me as saying thatI"purposefully intended to keep this a secret from everyone for my own pleasure," all the bandwagoners jumped onboard without thinking for themselves (in true bandwagon fashion) to bash me forit.
Since my "job" is to reflect the desires of the community, I left it to this community whom it will impact to make the call. If the community wanted it to remain "unknown" (kind of a joke since I had already said how it worked in well over 20 different posts before now) then I would not bring it up again. This would make it the communty's choice to withhold it, not mine. If the community wanted it to become public, then I would post it. It would pain me to do so knowing what it would produce, but I would do it.
It's a done deal now. The information is posted. The news is out.
So judging by your punctuation we can infer you are a moron who needs mechanical assistance to breath? If your going to flame on spelling or grammar, be perfect in yours so others don't think your an idiot. As for the he/her thing well its funny, but for some reason I think if you are going to insult someone you should take the time to read there posts. Raphayl has made it very clear that she prefers to addressed by the femal gender. Maybe for just for your feeblemind she should make asticky post about it.
I wont be checking back into this post Raphayl so you dont need to ask me to stop. This is my last post to this thread.

OK, raph I noticed your thread about dodge after i wrote my reply to ths thread, no offense to you but i read the thread you gave mention to and your can i say somewhat smart aleck remark kinda annoyed me, I have done many professions and am just getting into fencer for the fun of it, today is the first time i have taken the time to read the fencer boards so yes technically im new o this area but ive been around for a while 8) i just dont say much, unless i see someone who is being specifically rude *cough* Valdo *cough*. I meant no offense to you when i said i have seen better correspondents, just that i have beena creature handler, bounty hunter, ranger, and architect and the ranger trainer looks to be the best put together and well kept of them all, I didnt notice any specific threads on the fencer forum but on the ranger forum's there are list's and list's of things the ranger would like changed that the correspondent took note of and put together. I felt stupid honestly after i read your thread about dodge, You spent alot of time checking every professions innate abilities and seem to work hard for the community. thanks you and sorry for any ill will i have brought upon myself, and valdo punctuation? I save punctuation for when i care to hit return and make my paragraphs 5 sentences, for now i just care to make something that people can understand. and yes i mastered all those prof's, not for holocrons but for fun, and fencer is turning out to be just the same 8).
one thing raph, Fencer seems to get the short end of the sick when it concern's different weapon types, we have no rapier's no cutlass's and so on and so forth, maybe something you could add to your list of thingy's to ask for? just a thought.
Ok just for specification, I wsa talking about your reply in which you said you could keep us guessing when i said smart aleck.
As for the thread i read after i replied that would be your dodge thread.
Yes my puncuation is horrible, wish there was the ability to use tab in these window's, its to bad.
