So SWG is no longer a skill-based game, but a class-based game?

Seriously, the whole idea that you could stack skills and mix and match your template was one of the defining features of SWG. Is that all gone now? Are we forever pigeonholed as one particular profession with profession-specific bonuses, and no mixing and matching? From my perspective, it seems like you just eliminated a big part of character customization. Even something like institutiong a soft cap for defenses/offenses and then only counting 50% of the stats above that soft cap would have been a more welcome change, but a wholesale hard cap on stacking is the death knell of a skill-based game.

If you stick with that, that's one less defining feature for SWG, and one less reason why SWG is different than any other game on the market.

No this is definately still a skill based game.

Our goal is to get that balanced out so that players don't get hammered if they dont min/max the skill defenses. Right now its hard to get involved with PvP because power games have learned how to game the system and get unfair advantages and force specific templates.

We want to make it so that all the various templates are important and useful, and not just a specific grouping. All template choices should be valid for this premise to remain intact...

Fencer is my main perfession i fight with, I have been working on my charector since the beggining. Alway mixing and macthing trying to make it a use full perfession. Since July i have been slowly working on it, but also working on my guild and city, i had finally finished 2 weeks ago, then i hear this coming. I know this isnt going to just affect me, cause the majority of fencer are mixed prefessions. I just wanted to make sure you all know what is coming

Hi,

I think it is not a bad idea. I don't think it is nerf. I am doing very well with fencer alone. I think it is very poor to forge your character so you can go about business without a care. It's boring. There should be something you can't kill and I think it is fine.

Also, another thing to notice is going hybrid shouldn't benefit you when you only use one. How do I dodge better with a butterknife when I know how to dodge with a pistol? How do I block better with pikes if I know how to block with a rifle? We have discounted the reason why we go hybrid. It is because it gives us OPTIONS. For example, going hybrid with TKA will allow you to use meditation and other little goodies (or one-hit KD etc.) Going hybrid with swordsman will give you crazy damage after you KD with fencer(and Bleed).

And some people would definitely want to do crafting on the side. It is a very good idea since you now know what suit the profession very much. Then you can craft some very good drinks/foods/weapons/armors. As it is now, many good smiths has dropped the profession because without skills stacking hybridization, you can land a hit. That's pretty dumb. So we ended up with several thousand grinder smiths who flood the market with mediocre items. (Plus, you have to get skills you don't want to use anyway ... so youare going to beas petty as a jedi grinders.)

This "nerf" will calm people down and get back to what they enjoy (in addition topvping) or try out different professions. I think it's going to do us all good things.

This is a horrible idea.

If they want to end the stacking of defenses they should at the *minimum* make it so ranged and melee defenses don't stack.

If you want to be the King or (Queen) of melee by adding your melee skills togther - you should be able to.

Terrible Idea.. but I'm sure this will go live. Right now, as a Master Brawler, Master Fencer, 2044 Pistoleer, I dueled a TKM guildie.... And won maby 2-3 of 10 duels. Of course this was with out armor, which with our Stun battons give us an advantage. I know TKA's work hard to get their skills, but even a dual profession char, with stacked defenses will still have a hard time beating a TKM. Just my opinion.

This is a terrible idea. The only reason defense stacking is getting nerfed is because of all the ranged players who can't figure out how to beat a high-defense template.

It's not hard, people. I get killed just about as often as I do the killing. All it really takes is someone warcrying/panic shotting me, then (optionally) intimidating me, then letting the ranged players in the gank squad gun me down as I try to get away for long enough for warcry to wear off. 2 or 3 high-attack templates in this situation will take me down in less than 10 seconds.

However, when 1 or 2 non-high-attack templates try to take me on with no support, it's a different story, especially if they don't really know how to play their character. Assuming (most likely correctly) that the majority of players are one-shot spammers with jack poo for tactical wisdom, it means I'll do a lot of killing while not getting killed (very often). This is the origin of the nerf calls. It's not that high-defense templates are overpowered, it's that most of the rest of the players are inexperienced.

Word to the (un)wise. Don't try to take us on solo. Try actually learning what your specials do, and how and when to use them, and then team up with other players who have done the same. There is absolutely zero reason why I should have to fear a novice marksman, or even a bounty hunter or commando who hasn't invested some of the rest of his skill points into a highly accurate attack template.

A knee-jerk reaction, but a step in the right direction atleast.

Optimally, the only defenses that should stack are melee and state defenses from melee professions, and ranged and state professions from ranged professions.

Status defenses will not stack either

Truthfully i feel instead of revamping the entire combat class, and the effects of combat. They should tweak the current one. The new revamped combat style will deffinatly cater still to the mixing of other perfessions, but will not allow meele to mix and stack and be usefull. Fencer will start to go back to the way we were before the sweet patch that gave us all the defenses, and all ranged i fear will begin to reack every perfession again.

People think the mod stackers are a lot more poweful then they are. . .

When my template was master brawler, master fencer, with the rest of my skill points in politician and entertainer, I beat the TKM/Master Rifleman/duelis/whatever else it is 50% of the time.

Seems pretty balanced to me.

Fantastick Idea!!!!!!!

I've been a big advocate of this all along. This is the only way to prevent abusive template matching. Any time that one template becomes the "winner" template, that "winner" will be nerfed, or otherwise adjusted. The designers don't want a "winner" template. This was the problem with droids, then creature handlers, and then dodge-stackers.
