Thread: To wear armor or not to wear armor that is the question...
Server: Shadowfire
I ya'll its me again the annoying bothan from shadowfire. (giggle)
Anyhow, I been testing with armors lately in game from Tantel to composite armor. I am honestly having a hard time seeing what types of armor would benfit a fencer the most while allowing the fencer to remain very agile in combat. Here is my results I havent gotten a chance to test everything I wanted to test since each armor item I buy is custom made an speific in nature.
Tatenal:
Cheap, very effective vs engery weapons, if spliced right you can get the effectiveness raised very easly on this armor with very good ham costs. I kinda feel when wearing this certain types of weapons tend to just smack you around. Although it does seam that you do have good defense.
Bone:
Ugly looking, wouldnt be caught dead in it. Anyhow, over all effectiveness I would take the extra ham cost hit to wear tatenal armor as its more effective.
Composite:
Very hard to tell, it eats a heck of alot of stats mainly in strenght an stanima. Its not that much of an issue, but still I feel as if I get hit more often in it but take alot less damage. Its really hard to say at this point in time on the true effectiveness of this type of armor just yet.
Anyhow.... I wanna hear your oppions an see whats the best armor for a fencer. I only use a chestplate an head gear item. Since I want to ensure my ham use never goes over 65 points with meleehit3 while staying as effective as possible. With the lack of special fencer armors in game using basic armors does slightly lower our performance. If we use no armor were dead incredibly fast.
Well as far as armor goes i just bought a set of ubese fer 21k, with as much in melee defence as i could, then i had it sliced, seems to be a wonderfull set. high resist fer those upclose moments, and very little incum, i think this is good set of ar for fencers.

I wear chitin because I don't have any money. It increases the damage I take from everything but bare fists by a factor of about 30...
**edit** I'm miserable.
You know what really sucks, is that I'm a wookiee and I can't stand up in a fight well at all. I'm not talking PvP either, even Kaadu's beat me up pretty good.
Sure I can wear shield generators, but the beating you take as a melee player obliterates the shields quickly.
Maybe this game just wasn't meant to have many Wookiee Brawlers...
Hi,
I use Composites (48~51%). I got helmet, chest plate, gloves, and boots. I stand up against pretty serious beating (for a non-CH fencer) with couple B-stims. I die much less now. Just other day, I killed3 stormies before I forgot to heal myself totally solo, no pet.
I suppose I can wear other components, but I can't wear my bodysuits with it. Yeah ... looking good is far far more important. Besides it would be wrongfor a full armored fighter to be carrying a vibroblade/vibroknife/butterknife.
Total cost of the whole set I use is about 80K. Before this I used high% kinetic(40-45%)chitin. Really good until you become strong. (Total cost for the entire setwas 20K) I tried Ubese too, but I didn't like it for two reasons. 1st, my chitin cost less. 2nd, its graphics is soooo poor. (ie) My shirt show thru thejacket in inappropriate places. It was so embarrassing I chucked it out the first hour.
I haven't tried padded yet. But it would certainly be interesting to find matching outfits. (In terms of protectiveness, I think I stick with Comp though.)

The best armor in the game is a pair of rock beetles to tank for you.
I really feel for the wookie that posted not too long ago.
I used to think the HAM hit from armor wasn't worth it. Of course, that was with a character that had money and could buy "high-quality" stuff. All of which had ungodly HAM effects.
Then I started a new brawler char and was getting beat senseless constantly by white cons. So I "invested" in a Mabari outfit and voila ... suddenly I could take yellow cons more consistantly than I took the whites before. Total cost? About 2300 creds and less than150 points to each HAM bar.
Now that I'm a real fencer with a little more money, I've upgraded to low-HAM ubese (with my old mabari helm). I still regen decently enough that I don't always take it off to rest.
P.S. T-900, if you still need money at Novice Fencer you can go to Anchorhead and grind 1.2k missions at 500m distance. You might have to hit refresh three or four times to get them, but with such a short run, you can pull down 15-20k/hour. I haven't found any other place where the distances are so short, but they may exist. It's still not great fun, but there's a lot less of the hugely frustrating running time. Scyks are especially nice, representing about 4k One-hand XP, 400 combat XP and 350 Scouting XPper mission to go with that 1.2k creds.
