Just about every fencer ive seen is carrying a tusken gaffi stick(or gaderiffi baton I think its called in this game) Why do you guys use them? They have crappy damage and negative damage mods. Is there something Im missing here??

it pretty much is the best pve fencer weapon there is, a master fencer can swing a dmg sliecd gaffi stick (about 3.4 or 3.5 speed) at the speed cap quite easily. with about 280 max damage (non-enhanced) the only nearest contender would be a dmg sliced 1h curved sword, with light ap and about 220 max damage, i dont believe it evens out. though it may have a lower speed, the speed ceases to matter when you already swing at the speed cap even adding in the delays some specials add (like 1h hit 3 adds some delay i know)

now looking at the enhanced fencer weapons, ive seen an acklay bone enhanced, dmg sliced gaffi stick upwards of 450 max dmg, still ap0 (obviously) and about 3.6 speed i believe. and just the other day on my servers trade forums i saw a guy auctioning off several 1h curved swords (at first i thought it wasnt a special auction because the dmg was too high..i thought they were 2h curved swords) with around 390 max damage...now thats a curved sword!

i have done every combat profession, especially all the melees (my favorites). fencers do not deal a lot of PvE damage compared to the other melees, they are particularly good at standing on their feet though. with the defenses to dizzy, kd, and posture change..throw in some pistoleer defenses or even another melees defenses and you'll be the last one to be flopping on the ground something about fencer attracts me to it, damage lacking..fun filling.

i have also heard (not sure when) they will be adding an akimbo (two one handed weapons) fencer weapon later on..as well as an akimbo pistoleer weapon. that should be fun!

Yeah too bad, if it did I would be using it instead of a gaffi.. it looks better too.

Ruehs is right, the only thing that has AP for fencer weapons is the VibroBlade which doesn't hold too much weight in most combat situations. The Gaffi's can actually peak out at JUST over 300dmg with a really good damage slice and great resources + 12pt weaponsmith. At least thats been my experiance with the max damage at any rate.

The Gaffi may not have the most impressive accuracy mods but when your hitting as fast as we are at master it doesn't really matter if you miss once because you'll have 3 hits right after that connect. *shrug* it gets down to a numbers game. Most people ignore the accuracy mods on weapons, not just fencers but thats a general statement for most proffessions.

Untill the combat revamp comes out the gaffi is going to be our most used weapon in PvE and the Stun Baton in PvP. Oh and with an acklay gaffi your USUALLY doing more DPS than you would with a vibroblade even though it has AP1.

You can get a Vibro Blade over 200 max dmg where it falls short is in the min dmg. Upping this would give us a viable AP1 kinetic based weapon.

against a AR1 critter that has say 30% kinetic resist.

You have a AP0 Gaff Stick with 300 max dmg
and a AP1 Vibro Knife with 200 max dmg

if both weapons had near to same or same min dmg the Vibroknife would shine in this situation. But that is not the case, you 'can' get higher hits with the vibroknife but the gaff will still out due it with its higher min damage.

On top of the thins already said its been my experience that the Gaffi has loer ham costs. Most importantly the mind cost of specials My standard gaffis are at about 16 points and my Acklay is at 8. I have a ryk that does abut the same damage or moreas My average gaffi but id probably incap myself using specials like I do with the gaffi.

That and there is something nice about beating something with a crowbar.

this very true matey , it just a shame the vibro knife is so small , the devs really need to make it longer with the sam damage as the Gaffi stick

The mind costs are very important. Unless I've got a musician buff and am brandied up I don't bother with anything but the gaffi unless I really need too (PVP). In my experience (and maybe I just have crappy weapons) the stun baton and vibroblade suck up vast amounts of mind, the HAM cost difference is quite noticable. Here is an area where our speed works against us, we hit incredibly fast, so the HAM costs add up very quickly, although they certainly aren't as bad as some other professions.

I had a Force sensitive character, with 23 and a half boxes ground out.
I had a master creature handler.
I had a high lvl crafter character.
I had a Bounty Hunter that I hunted PC Jedi with.

My game is dead.

The vibrobale has the lowest HAM costs, for so i only use it for some specials on PvP as dizzy/blind. Fury, what u said gets down against a man with damage mitigation, ridicously low damage of the vblade makes it almost useless.
Against a mob /w 30% kinetic it stands
