Hello. I just completed One-Handed IV and am close to completing Novice Fencing and I am still wearing the same clothes I started my character with. They are down to like 75% or so from dying. Like the sticky guide (thank you) suggested I am using a Z10 curved sword which seems to work pretty well. I can take out most blues with one or two hits, whites are fairly easy (except for a few), and can take onsome single yellows or reds with a lot of stim packs.

I don't like the idea of losing secondary stats with armor and it looks like there are clothes which provide some amount of protection (is that correct?). What, currently, is the thought on clothing/armor for the Novice Fencer? Oh, my stats are (comments, suggestions, help would be greatly appreciated):

HEALTH 750,540,540

ACTION720,530,530

MIND 720,535,535

I think I need to bump up action up bit. That's the one that usually goes down the fastest. I have mind so high because I read that the mind attribute is really important.

Also, it seems like the two Scouting skills Exploration and Hunting might be handy (yes/no?). The Hunting skill adds some bonuses to killing creatures (I read somewhere that Fencers where good at PvP but not the best at PvM, still true?) The Exploration Skill makes you move quicker plus the faster burst skill to chase down those pistol wielding monsters/players. So far I have been using the follow macro and burst run if they are moving around a lot and my character pretty much sticks to them like hair on a gorilla, while hacking away at them. Is this a good strategy?

Thanks,

You can pickup a good set of Ubese armor that would't be too heavy. That'll be good for leveling in your early stages. Most servers you can get a set of 75% or higher Ubese for less than 200K. Pay a smuggler to slice it for you and hope you get a few encumbrance slices and you're good to go for armor. You can buy some food to offset the encumbrance of the armor or pay for doc buffs.

Thanks much, but 200k for armor??? I must be doing something wrong, becauseI can barely keep 50k in my pocket at any given time. What am I doing wrong?

200K? pish
On farstar server i can pick up a full set of 70% ubese for 90 - 100K
The encumbrence on this is very low so you can wear it unbuffed, as a fencer this will be one of the best investments you can make, as you will be able to take on much harder mobs quite easily, i.e. you will be able to take on most reds and win. If you want to hardcore grind fencer then get a buff from a master doc put on your 70% Kinetic resist ubese and go to dantooine and take savage quenker missions, these are about 6.8 - 6.9k missions, they are very easy to do and give great xp. Group with a pet or friends before you start as you get 800xp more per kill when grouped, with this you will get around 3.8 - 3.9k xp per savage quenker.

Just depends on the economy of your server. Ubese has been coming down in price. It's probably closer to 125K on Naritus, I was just generalizing the price. In any case, if you're just starting off, make sure you have some Scout so you can harvest meats and such to sell to crafters/doctors for good money. Buy some harvestors and try your hand at selling resources to make money. As you get higher, you can start hunting stronger mobs for different loots and sell them.

Yeah 200k is INSANE for a suit of armor. Thats over 200cpu profit for an as, way to much.

You shouldnt look for this "top notch" ubese at your level, stick with 50% or so, mainly cut off a good chunk of damage, but worry more about the price then an extra 20%, for armor that doesnt last long.

Money is an issue if you only do missions, the 'easiest' way to make money probaly is slicing, for small ammounts. It takes no "Quality" resources to do, and its relativly easy to level. Not sure how popular Dath is on your server, but on mine its bustling wtih activity, due to the 36k Enraged Rancor missions, but id try the hardest missions you can,and once your footwork 4 (thats the first tree you should climb, unless you really want melee mit 1 first) you should be able to solo 10k missions without much (if any) trouble.

Another note, buffs, very important. Set of 10-12k buffs should last you ATLEAST two hours, and making that back shouldnt be hard, even running a few low missions, it should still be a piece of cake.

First, learn how armor works. Really. Get thee to the armorsmith forum. You'll need this knowledge to fight critters anyway.

Second, I suggest some Tantel or some Bone (but be careful and make sure it has kinetic resistance). Both have fairly light weight, cut your damage in half, and are very cheap. You might even find some cheap chiton out there.

If you have lots of credits to burn, just pick up the highest kinetic resist ubese you can find.

Don't overlook food buffs. Those can work as good as armor! Even a 200-300 point buff at your level will make a big difference.

I second Alaxias comment. Armor is not necessary but I always buff before going out on a hunt. I personally hate wearing armor and have not worn any in the last 7 months. I don't remember the last time I visited the cloning center. With a good set of buffs, strategy, and knowledge of what and who you are fighting, you should be able to survive and combat situation that has a probability for victory. I have seen people in full armor die while I lived to see the next mob. Armor is not necessary, just play it smart and you can level fast.

Strategy, strategy, strategy, and buffs. Good luck on all your hunts.

Thanks a lot folks for the help. I really appreciate it. Please tell me anytime Vincent. Although I miss tells a lot, email usually gets my attention. Nobody commented on my stats though. Does that mean they are ok?

Also, what about the two Scouting skills. Do they help?

Thanks again,

stats: depend of your play style. Some people (mostly medics) like to keep their mind at the max they can and fight only with doctors buff, mind is often the reason you die if you're playing with a medic.

exploration: you need it, on dathomir I wouldn't even think of hunting without it

hunting: yes but not for what you're thinking. The bonus to hit won't really make a difference, at master fencer you won't really miss anyway but harvesting hides and meat is a very good way to make credits.

It's possible to fight without armors. I'm wearing BE clothes that give a bonus to melee defense (it's very small, I don't really see a difference). Of course being a master brawler and master creature handler helps me a lot. Yesterday with doctors buff and brandy I fighted enraged rancor all night without any problem (unarmored).
