Thread: Fencers are getting some SERIOUS love in the future...
First to Raphayl, if you had anything to do with that is happening to the fencer profession, please do not quit your position here for the rest of your days. Do not worry, I will not leak too much of the glory that will come to us.
I have been made aware from a viable source that all 5 aspects of brawling are having a lot of fixes given to them, all with the aspirations of balancing. I've seen the intended changes myself, and to bequite honest, the fencing class is very comparable to the other 3. Equivalently, it means that the fencing class is getting the greatest increase in ability among the brawlers (to be wholly truthful, tka again gets the best stuff, but I hardly consider them a brawling class anymore. I refer to tkas as dev pets) and that is something to cheer about imo. However, there are two dark sides to this joyous information, 1. they may never actually go through with these intended changes and again give brawlers as a whole the mighty shaft. 2. once they do implement these changes, there is a large chance that they will not work as intended, aka a bug.
So, there you have it. I know this seems a bit shady, but there isn't a single fallacious statement in this entire post I assure you, just that if Raphayl was sworn to secrecy, I really don't feel like spilling all the goods myself (however, it is VERY easy to contact said source yourselves...)
Again to Raphayl, please do everything within your power to see that the proposed changes for brawlers, but especially fencers goes through. Once you are allowed to let the community know what's coming, perhaps another one of your votes or something of the like would be influential.
Our time will come...hopefully soon :-)
Mogan; Shadowfire - Master Fencer, Master Brawler, anxiously awaiting the brawlers' update, and is begging for a small increase in skill point cap (JUST FIVE MORE AND I'M PEACHY)
I managed to dizzy/posture down a Teras Kasi Master earlier wiht my 1/0/0/0 fencing abilities, kept him down for almost a minute, but his insane natural resistances and attributes (he wore nothing, barely even any clothes) made my berserked curved sword (about 100 damage a second with a novice TKA) take about 1/15 of his health, over 40 seconds of his lying defenceless on the floor... stupidity!
But yay.. Aye.. Let fencers reign supreme! We have the greatest asset: Coolness!
some commandos and bounty hunters have great strategy. and they're the only ones who are truly a force to be reckoned with. however, i think most of us here would rather be something that's fun to watch, and fun to play, rather than a powerhouse who kills in two hits and looks just like every other commando in our composite armor.
just my take on it.

being the best in this game takes no talent. go get commando (read: grind) and get a flamethrower. your weapon will do the killing for you.

Actually, I've beat every single commando that I have ever dueled. It most certainly is *not* the weapon that makes you "the best". Do I wanna be amoung 'the best'? Hell yes! Do I care if I'm "fun to watch" - hell no!. I couldn't possibly care less how I look. I much prefer to be effective at what I do.

i'm not ineffective myself, not with creatures and NPCs, anyway. but while i would like to be more effective, it's not my ultimate goal. that's a personal thing, though.
my argument for the weapons making a person the best is the fact that some professions have weapons that can do well over 1000 as their base damage. which means they can get one shot kills. to me, that's the weapon doing the work. i can remember back when the weapon certifications were skewed. a master weaponsmith friend made a couple flamethrowers and we went out. the results were amazing without even having access to specials. i have to work much harder as a fencer because i have to last longer to do the same amount of damage.
part of this is because i'm not master. even at master footwork, i've noticed that with a tatooine sunburn, i can do 1000 damage every second. don't misunderstand me, we're definitely not underpowered. i'm fine with the way we are as it is, even with PvP.
i often have more fun playing out a failure than a success. there's only so many times i can taunt a corpse. however, getting up from an incap and making lame excuses, or running like a little girl and screaming for help is much more entertaining to me (and my hunting group).
ha! i essentially just said i find winning boring. go figure.
accorring to a post on the test center forum the test center patch notes states;
forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=TestCenter&message.id=23908
Fencer:
Increased accuracy
Increased defenses and dodge skills
My first thought is, did have a problem with accuracy?
Also do any of you testcenter players know if dodge is now working on the test center and if it stacks with pisteer's dodge? (which also got increased)
Thanks

you've beat every one? that truly is amazing. i've never been able to beat the commandos. what strategy did you use? my attempts always fail...
Heheheheh well... I don't like to give out secrets. I do use the right weapon for the right job, and keep them powerupped at all times. I use armor only when I need it. : ) Of course, knocking them down is most of the battle - if I dont knock an opponent down, I have a much lower chance of winning.

ps.... running like a little girl? And here I thought you weren't sexist.... I didn't run when I was a little girl, and I don't run as a woman ![]()
i drop a tatooine sunburn, use a gaffi for the bleeds, and then style away with my sliced stun baton if they have armor, or with my gaffi if they don't. i still can't win more than 4-5% of my battles unless the opponent doesn't kite.
i'll use autofollow, then burst-run, when he's on his knees i dizzy, then bleed. if he falls down, he's dead. if he doesn't i am. what are you doing differently than i am? i guess if you don't want to give out your strategy i can't force you. it's easier to give out mine since it doesn't work. anyone want financial advice while i'm at it then?
thanks for the clues though. i may be getting closer to a viable PvP stratagem. hopefully once i do that, i can win at least half the time, and that will rock.
p.s. i am sexist, i suppose. girls are better at some things than guys are, typically, and vice versa. hehe. i wouldn't run if i could beat every commando either! i've got to be doing something wrong here...
I never use a stun- it does far less damage than my Gad. I have been able to knock Commandos down 100% of the time - TKAs are another matter entirely. I open with dizzy - then lunge, THEN bleed.
Picking your place to fight is key also,
Seena.. who doesnt follow any sort of gender role assignment.
if i'm correct, light armor with a stun vulnerability doesn't subtract the 50% from damage? is that how it's SUPPOSED to work, or how it does work? i guess this is a job for the number crunchers to prove. Volsted, Lyahpar? anyone?
perhaps the difference is i'm also including my overt statistics. in duels i win more often since i can pick my ground. with PvP, however, i don't always.
i never open with dizzy with a kiter. i'm only going to get a chance to hit a kiter once in a great while. if i can drop him first, i have a chance to dizzy then bleed, whereas if i dizzy first, by the time i get my second attack in, the dizzy's worn off from chasing him for another 5 minutes.
TKAs i don't even bother. i'm slow, but not stupid. ok, ok, so it's just "i'm slow".
the guy who doesn't know what a gender role assignment really is...
