Thread: why use a gaffi over a curved sword? master fencer master tk?
I cant figure out why everyone uses the gaffi over the curved sword? anything i dont know? proly alot i am not even novice fencer yet. Also, I am a TKM picking up fencer for defense and something to do. Would you use your unarmed at master fencer/ master tk, or would you fence, or a combo? i plan on using the stun baton and the bleeds quite abit, paired with lunges or kd2 and dizzy, i think those bleeds and not getting up would be great.
any advice would help
Once you start getting the speed bonuses, the slowness of the gaffi is less of an issue. Once you're fast enough to cap out at 1.0 with a curved sword (around footwork 2), additional speed makes the dps of the gaffi more impressive.
There's a post in the stickied FAQ with a breakdown of what gives the best dps for various levels of footwork, along with some considerations for AP (when to use vibroblade) and stun resistence.
3 Columns? Well that could depend on what other skills you have, but most people would say do Footwork for sure, for the speed and bleeds. I would put technique at second for the melee damage mitigation, specials, dodge modifiers, and defenses vs stuff. For the last one of the three I am on the fence from choosing one over the other, but I would lean towards stances and grips for the melee and ranged defense. All though finesse has the blind specials that I use allot. Hard to choose between those two.
I say, free up skill points to master the profession. Allthe columnsgive ya good stuff!
Whoever said the specials hit health - wha? When I use my gaffi, my specials DEFINITELY hit mind. I'm always mind incapped.
Any ideas how to lessen the mind incap? ![]()

You're right about all that, but I still use the curved sword 'cause I look so much better using it. ![]()
Really though, hats off to the Devs on the fencer effects. They are outstanding! TKA anims come in second. Where everything else is just brute force, Fencer is deadly art.

Gaffi = more damage.. I have a 329 gaffi I dont think I have ever seen a curved sword that high. The only other weapon I use is a 211 stun baton for comp users.
whered you get a gaf like that, and do you have another?
I use a combination of TKA attacks, master brawler specials, and Fencer moves. I mix and match styles during a fight for the different effects and specials that they have. Sometimes I find it best to apply fencer bleeds, and then switch back to TKA. Sometimes I just use unarmed stun, and switch back to fencer.
It really just depends on what I am up against. Fencer offers me a few more options than what TKA provides. Yet TKA can provide some nice benefits in combat as well.
