Thread: How is Fencer?
i dislike holocrons making people fence as an ends to a means. that's a complete antithesis of everything we stand for. i don't dislike those who fence for a holocron hint, but i do despise the holocrons. i also dislike the devs not getting enough credit from our community. whether it be shortchanging their stance on us, or assuming they are in control of what they're not, or treating them like malicious older brothers. i have my complaints, don't get me wrong. i hope i'm never caught dev-bashing though, as that seems to be the worst way to get anything done.
i dislike that our best weapon is a stick, and our title is blademaster. a completely aesthetic complaint, and it's literally my only one. we are strong enough, not too strong, we are a rough road but not impossible, and most importantly, i have FUN.
i hope that's what you were looking for.
Altair pretty much sums it up. I went Fencer because it was such an uncommon thing and because when I was fencing I was having fun. I think we're the beefed up version of chef. If you see a fencer, (s)he's probably playing as a fencer because (s)he loves the profession, not because it's the best.
We are definatly not uber, but I've played just about all professions in the game save for the elite crafting professions, and fencer is the most fun by a lot.
Strenght:
Defence is our strenght. Dodge with CoB and blind let us fight very well against tougher foes.
The two bleeding styles, two blind, ae dizzy, aerea damage hit.
We are not so common and fencer is very stylish.
Some would say speed too, but as long there is a speed cap at 1.0 I think we are not better here than other professions (a havy sworman and yet rifleman can reach this cap too).
Weakness:
We have no real KD.
No havy damage hit, and no weapon with AP2,and only a weak one with AP1and a weaker one with stun.
No enhancements worth for our weapons.
No special fencer armor.
No crowd control. I miss a style similar to warningshot, if I have to fight against more than one foe.
No good possibility to stop running enemies, or to close up to them.

No crowd control?
Um.... Kill Bill was a way cool movie, as are the Zatoichi films... but those are about as close to 'crowd control' as you're going to get with a sword.

Yes, I mean we miss a style, which allows us to control more then one enemy in a fight.
If two or three foes are attacking us, we have no style to scare one away or to root/ snare it.
The only thing it works is lunge/dizzy at humanoids, or perhaps warcry for a 10 second freeze with too high HAM costs, and thisare not fencer styles.
And this I think is a weakness for us. Range fighters have warningshot for example.
Only my opinion.
Fencers have good specials and good defense. I find that I keepa lot of my opponents on their back the whole fight using dizzy hit and I can dodgemany attacks. The only thing that drives me nuts is the low damage output.Itwouldprobably not seem so bad if I had not mastered swordsman before fencer. As a swordsmanIcan go throughabout any NPC there is like butter, eventhe ones with medium armor and high resists. As a fencer,it seems I have to sit there and whack atmedium armor NPC'sfor 10 years to evenmake a dent. I know that is an exaggeration but that is how itfeels, though now I have the second health bleed it is a bit better. If I wouldnot havebeen a swordsman first, I would have no complaints. I am also always buffed so I don't really care about defense much, that is why I am probably so hung up on the damage thing.
Hi,
I have a decent crowd control. (CoB is the first thign you do) I do dizzy2/blind2 after applying healthhit1 and healthhit2 on all my mobs. After that I do spin2 occasionally to keep the blind on most of my surrounding mob. Then I can play the survival game or solid spin2 spamming depending on the strength of the mob and whether if I have buff.
I suppose what I want to say is bleeding is probably most effective form of crowd control.

I like that we have a community feeling here. There are 3 or 4 people that I can count on seeing regular posts from, and look forward to seeing them. Also, our Correspondent cares, reads every post, and posts intelligent posts in a positive manner when she knows she can help. We've gotten some major issues fixed chiefly because of her.
As far as crowd control...
We have at least one spin attack. Useful when getting swarmed by low to mid levelcritters. The first time I used one attack to take out 5 mites on tat in one move, I was *pumped*. Against higher level critters, if you get swamped, chances are good you made a mistake, and are probably going to die for it. Unless you use strategy.
Oh, and I like that strategy works with fencing. You can live a long time if you know what your doing. ![]()
