Thread: Melee Defense

with the mod stacking nerf coming, will any Melee Defense mods gained from pistoleer apply when i equip my flamer?

i have a feeling they wont, but gotta ask anyway.

it should be no biggie if they dont, as i can just set enemies on fire and then shoot them with a pistol.

yes, but they cap at 125 i believe

Im just now coming up on master fencer, i still need to get finesse 4. Ive just been to lazy to get combat exp.



Any how my question is do defenses in melee all stack?


Example being if i went

Master TK

Master Fencer

Swordsman 0040 Defense

Pikeman 0040 Defense

and master brawlker just for fun


Would all the defenses stack in combat? no matter what wep i use?

From my understanding there are 2 caps, a Hard cap and a Soft cap.


Soft means the 125 that you can achive by mixing prof's or what have you from skill tree's, that is it... skill tree's this is the cap you can get based up on what you can have from spending skill points towards it.


Hard means an additional 25 that you can achive via all other methods no skill point earned. SEA's, Food, BioClothes, various other enhancements.


so you can cap out at 125 soft or 150 hard. If you see a higher number anything beyond what i have stated will not take effect. This has been tested by various individuals and professions and the same GENERAL conclusion has been reached.


however due to the Dev's not liking to share, we don't know for sure. (naught dev's didn't your mommies teach you its not nice to not share )

i think the devs did share this once upon a time , but it wasn't stickied and now lost in the abyss...


my recollection

hard cap on melee/ranged defense and secondaries (dodge) at 125.


you can boost that via SEAs, but those cap at 25/skill


food/spice is on top of that


so Rizzaka and I are just debating about the >than 125 part

I looked for a few minutes but didn't find the post. I too am under the impression of cap at 125 per skill, cap at +25 from SEA's, then food is on top of that, but I cannot find a post to be conclusive sorry.


Oh, and regarding all defenses stacking. All do stack, but profession specific special defenses (block for riflemen/pikemen, dodge for pistoleers/fencers, counterattack for carbineers/2h swordsmen) only work when you have these profession's specific weapons equipped. Also, unarmed toughness, center of being, and other prof specific defenses (I'm not sure I got them all) do not work unless you have a weapon for that specific profession equipped.

SEA's will NOT boost above the 125 Cap. Only food.

I think I missed some thing but what food gives you a bonus to melee and/or ranged defence? I know about stat effects.

OH! and i THINK the Squad Leader bonuses will take you above 150 or is at least supposed to. Not QUITE sure on that... not like you group with a SL much in this game anyways lol talk about gimped prof.

One thing that was never "really" cleared up, atleast I never heard anyone talk about it was when state effects are applied to you, what happens to your melee defence or dodge.... EXACTLY...

now I know stun and intimidate both lower our defences... but it was never explained how, and I forget if they said it was passive or active defences that they affected... so I'm not sure if they decrease melee defence or dodge somehow...

but IF, these state effects did say cut your dodge in half or took off 1/3rd of your melee defence... even though your capped at 125.... One might wonder, if you had say 150.... would your melee defence(with 1/3 off from stun let's say) be 83 or 100 when the state is applied to you??

If someone knows what happens for sure, I'd love to hear it and see the link to where this has ever been tested or discussed.... since SOE hardly EVER gives out numbers and explains EXACTLY how things work..... I really have no idea..

there is a food that adds to melee def, i dont know the name of it off the top of my head. look in bloodfin forums there is a Iron chef post has it listed there
