Thread: Idea from a patron Tips split over group

Hey there, a patron asked me once while I was playing in the cantina "Are the tips split when you guys are grouped?" of course I said, "no, they're not."

But that got me thinking. I'm a musician, and I'm male. Because most of this game's players are male they tend to lavish tips upon scantilly clad dancers and leave the guys on skid row.

So how about the group option that we can turn splitting of tips on or off?

You know I'd love to get a few credits too, and this would be a great way to do it.

Thanks for reading

Thanks for the suggestion

This is an often discussed topic though, as some of us really feel it's necessary. My own idea was to simply give us a few commands to get us started, ahead of any radical user interface windows they create for this area:

  • /TipInclude <name>- Includes player on an auto distributing group tip split

  • /TipExcluse <name>- The opposite

  • /TipList- Lists all names of group members with asterisks next to those getting part of the split

  • /TipSplit <on/off>- On means it goes to those in the /TipInclude list.

  • Additionally, any new person that gets invited to the group gets automatically includes in the /TipInclude command.

  • And, any time the group leader changes, everyone gets defaulted back to being included in a tip, and /TipSplit gets defaulted to being "on." This means the new leader needs to change the settings, which I think is fine. They would likely have talked to the previous leader anyway.

This is a middle ground for me. I accept that AFK macroers are a reality. I just wouldn't include them on a tip distribution.

Ah, I haven't come to the Entertainer's forum before. If it was already discussed, my applogies. I just thought this guy had a good idea. I'll go back to lurking now

No sorries I apologize if I was attempting to "write off" your suggestion. Not at all! Rather, I think this is a very important topic, and if it continually comes up, should be continually discussed until SOE addresses it.

So please don't feel like you're opening old wounds or anything. I only made that statement to let ya know you're not alone in your opinion

A group auto-split would be nice to have, but it would be more beneficial if they would first fix the existing /group split command. It doesn't work as intended.

I like the suggestion that allowed designation for those group members who are to get a share of the tip, because I work hard for my tips. I'm always at my keyboard, I interact and engage my patrons, and it wouldn't be fair to dancers like myself to have to split tips with someone who was barely there and never spoke while they macro'd.

That's precisely why I'm glad /group split doesn't work. I manually distribute tips I receive to folks I think deserve them. It's entirely up to me right now, but requires more work than it should, since people are generally consistent about their play habits.

I have no beef with AFKers. In fact, most AFKers I've talked to understand the opinions others might have of them. Some even put "don't tip me please, tip the active players instead" in their AFK message. They are generally find with not receiving tips. Theymake their money from missions or something else, or don't really need moneysometimes I personally leave the group and find an unnoticed corner well away from the entrances and the band, and only then if I don't have enough time to go someone outside the city. It's not ideal, but I've spent 99% of my time these past weeks doing nothing but actively flourishing and RPing and living in Cantinas.

Besides, right now it's very private. Nobody's told who gets tips and nobody's told who's distributing them. Most times I /tip the band members, they'll thank me in spatial, group or tell, which goes unnoticed by the AFKer anyway. I've never had a problem with someone thinking they deserve a tip that I didn't give them. I like to think that's because I'm a conscientous observer

I kinda hope for a tipping menu like /group options (or whatever it was for autosplit back in the day). if you did /grouptip options or something, you could select AFKs, and stuff to tip/not tip. Then just /grouptip playername to tip the group accordingly. my $0.02
