Thread: Choosing Who We Entertain?
Greetings, So in light of my journies I've found one issue I wish I had control over...who I entertain. I wonder if it would be a programming marvel, or hinderance to allow us to choose who we entertain. For example: Harrassing customers, opposing factions, etc. How I see this possible is in relation to the /ignore function. If an entertainer were to /ignore a harrasing patron, they should be able to continue to entertain other patrons without serving the harrasing patron a service. Any other views on this?

I understand you point, in the same respect if a patron is being harrasing, a 'club' would have a bouncer to remove the harrasing guest. Since we don't have this option of removing a harrasing patron this was the only other solution I could think of.
Ah, but the doctors and medics actually get to choose who they heal! If someone is being rude to them or somesuch, they can CHOOSE not to heal them. Entertainers don't have that CHOICE.
However...this has been gone over numerous times...this is basically just another Deny Services thread. It's been chased head over heels over there. ^.^ Don't have the link to it though, sorry.
I dunno how I feel about this one really.. the point's a good one. I'm sure we've all had to deal with the fairly immature folks who just goof off or goggle at some toon's bodily features and say or emote crude or vulgar things. There's a simple /ignore feature which is nice -- but it sure would be nice if we could simply choose not to benefit them at all. If I'm a crafter I can choose not to do business with you. If I'm a doctor I can choose not to heal you. If I'm an entertainer, I'm basically out of luck.
I honestly wouldn't mind this as a feature so long as there were some additional "fleshing" done. Specifically, if I own a cantina, say, I want to be able and dictate whether or not performers there can pick and choose who they help. Perhaps my house rule is you help anyone who can make it in -- if you're a rebel in my Imperial cantina and you're performing... tough luck -- you get to help the Imperials out.
Making this solely an entertainer-based decision doesn't offer quite enough flexibility and control, I don't think (though arguably if I owned the cantina and you were being overly restrictive I could just boot you and be done with it).
I've a hard time seeing how this feature could hurt someone overmuch so I'd kinda like to see it. Folks who disagree with it could always choose not to use the restriction.
1. Ask Griefer to stop, usually in character. For example, some imbecile pulls out a giant bug creature into the cantina, or some huge beast that doesn't even fit and takes up the whole dance floor. I might have my dancer shout, "Eeeek! What is that THING doing in here??" followed by, "Can you get that THING off the dance floor?"
2. If Griefer keeps it up, I move on to step 2: /stopdance. My character stops, and again asks the Griefer to cut it out. "I'm not dancing with that THING on my dance floor."
If it continues, I then do two things:
3a. /ignore Griefer
3b. Open up the inventory, switch to backpack and explorer clothes, and say something like, "I'm not putting up with THIS stupidity." I then have my character walk out of the cantina and go surveying for a while. Or maybe I will fly from Moenia to Keren (or vice versa) and try another cantina.
I don't take crap from people, and I refuse to try to roleplay through a hail of out-of-character stupidity... so if this stuff is going on I just leave.
I have had the other customers tell disruptive people to cut it out, especially if I am the only one dancing. Nobody wants their ent healer to take off suddenly...
