Thread: An interesting experiment: How the other side lives
First, let me preface this by saying I'm not whining about tips. I'm perfectly happy where I am now with my main. Furthermore, if you want to flame me for this, go ahead, I'll just ignore you. This was done soley for my own amusement Finally, this isn't really statistically significant, and is more likely an anomoly than the norm. But it is interesting nonetheless.
What I did. The server I am on is usually one of the last to come up after a patch. So I decided to play around on a different server. I rolled up a female zebrak on the first server to come up after the patch. Made her an entertainer, and plopped her in Coronet.
I played her as friendly, not really flirty, but outgoing and talkative.
Within an hour of waving her arms around spastically to basic and rhythmic I had:
Learned basic2 and EH1, free of course. No suprise there.
Earned 11k credits.
Took those 11k credits to a tailor and bought for a total of 4k:A patterned slip dress, a sports wrap, and trim lined shorts.
Net result at the end of a couple hours: Entertainer skills at 1-0-1-1 nearly to 1-0-1-2, 7kcr, a patterned slip dress, trim lined shorts, and a sports wrap.
Compare this with my main, a male twi'lek, who had to end up taking 5k of charity to learn novice dancer.
Not only is it expected, it's perfectly reasonable, and quite frankly, the way it should be. Tha majority of the game's population is male and het, you cannot blame them for appreciating the female form more. In addition, the females playing the game are more likely to be mature, and thus will probably not sit and gaga over a single dancer like many males do, but enjoy the many members of the band and spread tips around.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but despite saying you're not complaining over tips, running an experiment like this and posting the results does make it sound as though you'd not happy with the way things are.

There was a post in our Galaxy forum suggesting trying out an alternate sex character. Tiaga's on Kett too, so perhaps he just felt compelled after seeing that. Dunno though.
She makes some nice tips but she never made 11K in one "sitting". Closest I came was 9K in Moenia for a couple of hours dancing, and that was because my character was the only entertainer there and there was a major PVP war going on just outside the cantina.

Flexi-form shirt and desert crawlers. Ah, the memories...
Now my character has a Grand Ball Gown and lots of other great stuff so I don't use those at all anymore (still have them in my safe deposit box though...).

The only reason I posted it was because the amount of tips was so high, I'm sure it's more the exception than the rule.
When I was a n00b and first starting out, I had a LOT of people give me gifts and large tips just because they knew I was a new player and they wanted to help a newbie. Since "establishing" myself in a couple of cantinas (Moenia, Keren) and people getting used to seeing me, not nearly so many "gifts" roll in. The tips are more consistent now, but I don't get "sympathy" tips any more. Heck, one time a near-master Musician tipped me because he had tons of money from tips and I was too poor to buy a Lekku Wrap for 3K...
Nobody'd do that now. They know I have enough to buy harvesters, I just bought a medium house, and I have tons of nice clothes. So I don't get "sympathy tips" any more... but if you were perceived as a "n00b" on the server you might have. :-)

I grew up (symbolically speaking) as a musician in Mos Espa. Got to MM, and then took up dancing. I'm currently two boxes away from MD there. The first thing I noticed was the sudden and drastic halt in tip income when I made the switch from music to dancing. It was shocking really...I always thought it was just a case of "grass is always greener" syndrome.
The other thing that furthers the point is that the wonderful female dancers I'm with are oft concerned with my financial status and so ask me if x person tipped me when they receive a generous tip themselves. I think I can answer "yes" about one innine times (no exaggeration there).
It's a shame, but I'm not bummed about it. The only thing Iwant is a house and my clothes and I have no recurring expenses besides those. If I wanted anything more, I'd probably want to end up being a merchant anyway.
I was utterly blown away by how easy and how fruitful the destroy missions were when I took up Fencing, however.
Such a huge differencefrom having to run delivery missions to pay for my small house or new clothing.
