Thread: Entertainers: how do u kno if some1 is listening to u so u kno if they leave w/o tipping or not?
I played as an entertainer once just to see what it was all about. I droped it very quickly. Anyways, While I was an entertainer, I couldnt see who waslistening tome, So if I wasnt the only entertainer in the room I couldnt tell if they werelistening tome or one of the other people. If they left and didnt tip me, it could have been because they werelistening tosomeone else and not me or they could have been listening to me and just not tipped. I dont know. Maybe I didnt play an entertainer long enough to get it. (idk if you can tell if someone is listening to you, but I couldnt when I was one, and with all those flourishes and what not flying accross the screen and chat, it would be hard to see if someone did tip you)
Any entertainers know how to tell if someone is listening to you so you know if they leave with out tipping or not? You have denyservice or whatever itscalled and maybe the person that just left wasnt listening to you and you thought they were and denyed them.
Sorry if this doesnt make sense cause I dont really get the entertainer proffesion and didnt play it for more then a few days.
Exactly - you don't. But you see there are those who feel entitled to be watched and tipped by everyone that walks in the cantina, so it doesn't matter if those people know or not... because if you want to watch and tip someone else then prepare to be added to the deny list.
So do all entertainers feel they need to be tipped by everyone that enters the cantinas regardless if they are watching/listening to them or not?
Iam still wondering how entertainers know who was watching them so they know that they didnt get tipped by them. If theres a group of entertainers and a group of watchers/listeners, it must be confusing to know who is watching/listening to you and whos not tipping you when they leave cause they could have not been watching/listening to you and could have been watching/listening to the entertainer next to you and you might have thought that they were watching/listing to you and deny them or think they are rude and dont tip.
Entertainers know because almost all of them have been in the situation where they were the only entertainer in the cantina and someone comes in with a lot of wounds and walks out without them, without a thank you and without tip. Or they've been in a group that actually talks and some groups talk about things, dance moves, training, clothes, customers, tipping. We do know when we are healing wounds we get special system messages every tick of it. And its not a great leap of intuition to notice if you are active and engaging day after day and hour after hour for two months with patrons coming and going but nothing to show for it that there's not a lot of support. Economic or moral.
As much as you as a fighter don't care about being entertained and only want to be healed by someone and leave, I'm a roleplayer and I don't care about healing anyone and only want to be entertained and entertaining. I thought at first I could be entertaining and bridge the gap with people who think the cantina is an inconvenience. That was my error for a lot of them possibly my success for a few of them.
So I leave the public cantina's where people with your needs don't fulfill my needs and I start a private cantina where I can do my thing and leave you trying to find an afk healing bot on yours. You should ask perhaps for an item you can purchase that will heal such things so you are less inconvenienced and entertainers can make money.

Not to slam your what you do, but as someone who needs entertainment healing almost every day, I dont really care what dances your doing or what song your playing or what clothes you are wearing/not wearing or how "entertaining" you are to me (I do watch/listen to the higher skilled entertainers over the less tho). All I care about is getting my mind and bf healed. Thats all, really. Maybe some people out there care about these things but I'm a fighter and I get woundedevery day so I have to stop by the cantinas. You could be there at your computer or (AFK), I dont care. Just need the healing. After its done, you get the tip.
You do not care if we entertain you certainly don't tip for it,you do not care what we do, you only want to be healed.
Well I do not care about tips and I do not care about healing and I am around to roleplay being an entertainer and choreagraphing dancing and using clothes to affect and being entertained with roleplay.
Therefore I have no use for you in a cantina. you in no way enrich my game, make me glad to be there or treat me with a basic respect at any level as a person (or toon pretending to be one).
But I have left you the public cantinas and started my own private cantina where I can be an entertainer and valued for it, and I took some darned good dancers and musicians who also like to be respected for being creative with me. Not only that but I encourage private cantinas and musicians and dancers in appreciative entertainment venues every chance I can. What is left is the afk healing bot non-entertainer that seems to be all you care about and the occasional odd dancer and musician that truly care but often quickly leave.
Your question about how we can tell if people listen and how that relates to tipping doesn't really seem to be a discussion that promotes the entertainer class or makes it more efficient or more entertaining. When you go to hear a band in a bar you don't pay a charge just because you only want to pay for a drummer playing it rather gets spread out. You always have the option to tip or not, no one forces your hand, no one makes you go to a particular cantina besides your own sense of urgency. You could try grouping with someone that has the skill for your convenience or joining a PA. All of which horribly would requireand outlay of social skills.
But why even bring this up except to annoy entertainers? You want dancers that are afk anyway so who really cares if you don't think they know you listen or not?
I'm not having a bad day, I solved my problem. I don't go to public cantinas to heal.
Rage, you can't tell specifically if someone is listening/watching you as has been stated above.
But when you start playing at 10am, and stop playing at 9pm and have only 10 credits more than what you started with but 20,000 more healing exp, it's not hard to figure it out. That's more of what some folks are complaining about.
/deny was never meant to be used to force tipping. Half of the entertainers on these boards didn't want that command in fear that it would be used to force tipping. Alas, it was put in anyway (entertainers still need a way to have some weapon against customers who harass them).
It's good that you can't tell exactly who is listening to you...I can only image the scene that would cause in the cantinas.....
Typically though, if you're listening to anyone you are listening to everyone.

To those people I also suggest they take a look at what they did between 10am and 9pm and figure out why they didn't get tips. Most decent entertainers I know make thousands of credits in their first 30 minutes of playing (yes, your skill level plays a definite factor, which is no different than making money in any other profession). I have yet to see someone I considered to be a really good entertainer not making any money - most of the time they are thanking people left and right.
