Thread: Who else is sick and tired of posts slamming us?
Dang forum didnt add my message to my post lol.
K here is the message: It is time for us to join together as a profession and demand some recognition.
This is my suggestion...for one week or maybe three days ..whatever...we go on strike . As for gaining exp we still get exp for dance /music performing outside cantinas just not the heal experience ..can always catch up on that pretty quick later.
For once lets ban together on this. There are way too many posts slamming us as a profession..partly due to some ignorance of ppl in our profession but I am tired of the relentless posts as I am sure anyone worth their salt is too. Now not everyone reads forums everday so I propose we do this sometime in bout a week. Post a new message when the date is set....pass the word to your fellow entertainers too incase they dont read forums. Let all see how long their characters can fight with no one to heal their bf! And please the lamers that just afk level..atleast afk outside cantina and get your music/dance pts up..hold off on heal pts till this is done. Name and shame any entertainers who go against us and play in cantinas anyway. Let me know what you think.
A) In their eyes, it's the same thing as abusing /denyservice, or overscreaming for tips...the main reason alot of the negeative feelings are out there is because they think we're demanding things, so a strike will only increase the attentions.
B) You won't get everybody together on this. Aside from the fact that a huge amount of people don't read the boards, you'll still have people who don't WANT to strike, or would see it as a way to make a name (or extra cash) for themselves with non-entertainers...while the rest of the community goes on strike, J.RandomDancer goes out and heals people, looks good in their eyes, and gets lots of tips.
I'm not saying the idea doesn't have merit, I just think that in THIS case, I have a feeling it would backfire.
Even if you managed to get all the entertainers to strike in a particular city, all it would do is make people hate entertainers more... just ask the people that already tried doing it. /snicker
The reason so many entertainers don't get any respect is because they don't deserve it. You don't deserve respect solely for being an entertainer, and I think a lot of people can't grasp that concept. Those are the people that come here posting about how they only make 3 credits in tips per night and can't figure out why. If you want people to respect you, then act like an entertainer when you're in a cantina... it's that easy.

You make it sound so easy, Hijo
Of course, I know you realize there's more to it than that but I get your point.
...
The thing is, Kristiania, many of us are already on strike. Want me to not dance this weekend? Done - I'll just do my normal thing and take my gurreck pet to Dantooine with my PA. I'll leave my flesh wraps at home. Just like I always do.
I get your point, too, but the situation won't be resolved by us making a big scene in game. The other players' reactions to us are not all their own fault -- some of us have hurt the profession with our lewd behavior or our AFKing or our spamming for tips. Others of us were never in the profession seriously and don't have a clue what Entertainment means. It's all added up - right now, the best that entertainers can offer the game is some battle fatigue/mind healing and a small mind buff. Battle Fatigue has been called (by others) an artificial mechanism to justify the existence of entertainers. Whether it is or not, that pretty much sums up what we offer if you don't consider the roleplaying/social aspect we provide.
It's my opinion that until we offer something more valuable, like a long-term Mind buff which we must target on a specific player and which is worth having, we're going to be the red-headed stepchildren of the SWG classes. Until we have the ability to noticeably improve another player's abilities, we have little reason to demand better income or more respect.
We should petition the Devs (through our correspondents among other things). Strikes would get attention but as has been noted, the AFKers will not heed anyway. How could they? They're in the other room watching a movie.
Very true but hard to get ppl to stop the afk macro when they arent there. Personally I kick from group if I am leader but thats my choice. And to the poster who said I was whining for more tips..no not me..and hate the ppl who request tips as I think it is of the tackiest.
I am a role player first and foremost. If I am afk I sit on my bootie while I do the ladies room thing etc. I am not up macroing afk. Respect well that is a tough one. I have the respect of those who visit the cantina I work in mostly. They know me..know I dont do the God awful things some do. I am not asking for respect just would really like to know why our profession above all others gets kicked like dogs. Have ppl not come across some decent professionals? If they have then they are hurting them also with the slamming.
Gave up idea of strike cause you made valid points. Guess it is time to just hang it up. Dance throw up the afk sign so i can spend my time conversing with ppl I want to. We are going to continue to be degraded anyway so whats the point .

No need to give it up. We must remember that this game is nowhere near being a finished product. As much as I need the skill points for my TK and CH skills, I'm clinging to Master dancer in the hopes that one day, SOE will make it worthwhile.
From whom are you trying to earn respect?
It can't be the roleplayers. If you're a dancer and you roleplay that part well, any roleplayer worth his salt is going to respect that. To a good roleplayer, how you play your part is what matters, not what the part is.
It can't be the other entertainers -- well, not the dedicated and honest ones anyway. LAMErs may not respect you but that's because in a very real sense they don't respect themselves either (if they did, why would they be trying to aviod playing their chosen profession?).
So what's left? The "l33t d00dz" who think the be-all and end-all of an MMORPG is how many things you kill and how much "l3wt" you have? The combat-wombats who think PVP is all there is to the game... who go online to shoot things and nothing else. Is this the group of people you want respect from?
I understand there are a lot of them. Most of them are very much up on their own high horses about how "l33t" they are relative to you. They are vocal, and antagonistic, and they don't respect you because you aren't good at the things (killing and looting) that they value. They may make some of your experiences unpleasant. However, is this really a group of people whose respect you wish to earn?
Honestly -- I don't care what those guys think of me. They don't respect me? Well, I don't have a lot of respect for what they do either (though I am a lot more polite about it and I do not go around in game antagonizing them -- basically I just don't pay them any heed at all, which I gather is fine with them, and fine with me, so it's all good). For the combat-wombat uber-l33t crowd, you will never, ever, under any conditions, no matter what your activities, earn their respect by doing anything other than becoming just like them: killing, looting, and becoming "l33t". Attempts to earn their respect any other way, will fail.
And in fact for many of these people, there is simple NO way to earn their respect. In the movie "Karate Kid", the teacher told the kid, "Make good fight. Earn respect." But in many cases that's not possible. If you win a fight against the "l33t d00dz" they will scream that you used an exploit or that your class has an unfair advantage, and rather than acting respectful they come onto these boards and ask to "nerf" whatever it was that caused them to lose. Think about it. AT-STs cost a butt-load of faction points. To even get one means you have done a serious amount of faction work. Do the rebels respect an imperial who has this AT-ST and in a sense is more "l33t" than they are? Nope. They instead cry "foul" and there are probably 100 different topics on the main board asking for that faction pet to be nerfed. So for many of the people you are apparently trying to earn the respect of, that respect is basically un-earnable.
The bottom line is that these guys want a kill/loot/repeat type game, and anything, and I mean anything, that slows down their kill/loot/repeat cycle, ticks them off. They view entertainers as a self-fulfilling need in the game. That is, they are only needed because the designers wanted them to be needed... The designers are focing these, largely anti-social, one-track-mind gamers to get into a social setting, and while I applaud the theory behind it, this has the consequence that these bozos who don't have the first clue how to act in civilized society are forced to socialize, and they can't do it. Worse, they don't want to, and resent being forced to.
So you can't earn their respect. It's a lost cause. Going on strike would only do one thing: make them cry "nerf the entertainers" (note: there are several threads started by the uber-l33t crowd ALREADY crying that because of /denyservice). Because just like the AT-ST is ruining their ability to "be uber", by withholding the healing they need to go out and run more missions and continue their grinding, you'd be ruining their chance to "be uber" as well. They won't respect that -- they'll just ask to have NPC entertainers so they don't need you any more.
In the end, I don't care what the uber-l33t-combat-wombats think of me. If they individually act disrespectful, they get put on /ignore, and if it's bad enough (it never has been yet) I'd /report 'em. Other than that, they can play the game their way, and I'll play it mine. I care about the respect of only the roleplayers in the game, and since I am a decent roleplayer, I already have that. Everyone else's opinion of me is pretty much irrelevent.

You don't deserve respect solely for being an entertainer
Well... wouldn't it be nice if everyone else would just respect me for playing the game ? You don't deserve respect for any role you play. You deserve respect because you play the same game. If people don't respect me, I won't respect them, no matter how many XP they grinded to uber 1337 bounty hunter master.
Slamming us? Who's getting slammed?
The AFK macroers, yeah... The "Plz tip me" folks, yeah... The underwear dancers, yeah...
I haven't been slammed though. /shrug
If some one is being mean to ents, put him/her on the ignore list. I've been yelled at by some mad girl, not sure why, chased by some weird imp trandoshan, bossed around by people saying "START MUSICING NOW!", etc.
I either: put on ignore (#1)
DO what they say, and hope for a tip (#3)
RUN AWAY TO MY HOME SCREAMING WHILE HE SAYS CRAP<,AND ONCE I REACH MY HOME PUT ON BAN LIST.....ok i feel better now (#2)
Do those things, and you shouldnt have a problem ( espically # 2)
