Thread: Entertainers shooting themselves in the foot with /denyservice
So... I'm running around on Lok with my alt, looking for a good source of lokian wild wheat. As often happens in dangerous lands, something caught up to me and whacked me. No big deal, its a part of the game.
So I wake up in the clone center, with a ton of health, action and mind wounds. No big deal, in addition to being an artisan, I am also a novice medic and dancer. I head to the cantina to take care of the bf first and notice that there is just one other person in there, a musician sitting behind one of this big round instruments. I say hello, mostly just to test if he's afk or not. He responds with "yo". I think to myself, "okay, he's not very friendly.. but at least he's not afk, and he's sitting in here all alone in the middle of nowhere... I'll drop him a decent tipbefore I leave".
So I start up dancing, target him and start listening to him (figure somebody should get some ent. healing xp out of the deal), and opened up my inventory to see if I had remembered to bring any wound packs with me. All of about 8 seconds had passed when I saw "EmCee Flash has added you to his /denyservice list".
I look up in amazement and tell him "wow, you're a little fast on that denyservice trigger aren't you?" He respondes with "If you're not gonna tip, you can dance to heal yourself".
Needless to say I was a little amazed at the rudeness. And needless to say... he didnt see any tips from me. Now I understand why he was sitting all alone in a cantina on Lok. If he tried that crap anywhere else he'd get laughed out of the cantina.
I wonder if he'll ever realize how many tips he screws himself out of with that behavior?

I think theres going to be as much of an 'art' to using /denyservice as there is to being an Entertainer
Some people wont respond to /denyservice by coughing up, some will, for some it will just make them even less likely to tip in the future. Some Entertainers will use it to strongarm customers and others will use it as a last resort
The function in itself is neither good nor bad, it is just a tool. How that tool is used is up to the individual and influenced by the circumstances they find themselves in.
In that regard its no different to Weaponsmiths refusing to sell you a weapon (for example)
What a toad...

Exactly.
What server was this on? I want to make the trip, set up my Ommni, not group with him, and soak up the healing exp and tips. ![]()
For me, /denyservice is for one purpose only: to deny service to people like the big gang of Rebs that came flooding into the Theed cantina and decided to harrass the entertainers with obnoxious tells and emotes and comments (why is it that the Reb players always seem to be the ones acting like the biggest morons?). If you're in my bar to cause trouble (and that includes attacking the entertainer group because one of the group members with medic skills healed health or action for somebody from your opposing faction--yes, that's happened before), you better believe I'll slap that /denyservice on you.
But if you don't tip, I don't worry about it. Some people tip and some don't, and life's too short to get all bent out of shape over it.
Just my 1/50 of an Imperial Credit.
