This is a different take on the AFK issue, I think. Some complain that other professions can't automate their services, but this is not true. Beside the fact, that I have heard of ppl macroingMANY skills (scouting, creature handling, surveying, etc) - Merchants and crafters have their own build in way to gain XP... the BAZAAR.
Think if it. Theygain experience points automatically - not by selling their goods one on one - but thru an automated process on the bazaar or a home/mall vendor. This is no less an automated service provided to the customer than the entertainer who is AFK in their city cantina. Actually it IS, since the merchant doesn't even have to have his character active in the GAME to gain XP.
Say what you want, AFK Entertaining is not evil OR contrary to other aspects of the game. What can be considered detrimental to all professions and the stablitity to communities are the Hologrinders who uprooted and began a wild stampede from their native profession thru dozens of professions - cheapening each one - and leaving the community unsure who did what or where to buy what they needed.
AFK entertaining is slightly annoying, yes.. .but it is NOT a major problem - if you factor out those doing it who have no reason to be in the profession at all except for the holocrons. Once you are left with serious entertainers who just HAPPEN to want to provide a service while they are on a bio break - or gain xp while doing other things - you are left with the same issue as merchants who benefit form the bazaar system of selling and gaining xp when they are totally logged off.
To those who cringe at cantinas full of AFKrs... I say again.... start living and working in player cities.

well, if Usage XP is still in the game (and I noticed it when I was grinding AS and giving away Mabari), then you can gain xp from the bazaar. so, he's kinda of right about the bazaar and definately right about the vendors. you get to Master Merchant based on elapsed time and not on active playing. not that it makes a valid arguement to the 'pro-AFK camp' in any way...

Well you DO get xp when ppl browse your vendor. I thought you'd get some from sells. Still my point is valid on the vendor.
