Ok, I think this is a brilliant idea, hehe, but it’s mine so I guess I would. Please let me know what you all think.

Showbiz Line

  • It would replace the healing line in Novice Ent

  • It would no longer be a pre-req for Novice Dancer or Novice Musician, only Master Ent

  • All three elite professions could use it or not use it equally

What would it be?
It would represent the industry side of entertainment: the part that deals with making money and/or promotion.

Who would use it?
Entertainers of any branch that wanted to make money with out dependency on tips.

Who would not use it?
Entertainers of any elite branch that feel like we should have no other method or earning potential other than tips could just skip it.

How would it work?
You would start getting + earning potential at the first box in the line, not novice entertainer. You would get a progressively bigger bonus with each box. A very large bonus at Master Ent and some bonus at Novice ID, Dancer, and Musician. The rest would be spread through out the Elite lines just like + max level of pets is now in CH. This would be for all three Elite Professions.

To satisfy those that don’t want a game based pay system and content to be required for elite entertainers, you would not actually earn the ability to use these mission terminals until you had the first box in the line. The way you would earn xp for this first box would be by doing a first level mission or series of missions that would gain enough xp for the first box, but for very low pay.

You could do this first level mission as many times as you wanted to, but it would not grant any increased payout till you earned the ability by training the first box. This should most likely be given by an NPC in each of the starter cities, but anything would be fine as long as it was easily accessible.

Maybe all Entertainer trainers could offer this mission or quest and as the payout would be comparable to that of current Ent Missions, it wouldn’t be taking anything away from those who don’t feel like game based pay is for them on a normal basis.

What would you get with it?
You would earn the ability to run Entertainer Missions and a clear modifier to help you roll progressively bigger missions with greater payouts and rewards. Other possibilities:

  • Fame could be worked in here somehow

  • Register could be offered in this line either instead of novice dancer or musician, in addition to the current registration, or a whole new kind of location registration. This would open it up for Entertainers and Image Designers and seems fairer.

  • Entertainer Schematics – they would have to be little general ent things I think like props that all three branches would find fun. Maybe feathers, hand held mirrors, fans, tiaras, nothing too clothes like and a good mix of stage prop, design prop, and fluff OR make them useful to each individual line, but an equal amount of items for each.

  • Some kind of event promotion tool: something on the bazaar, a new chat channel that any one could join but only Showbiz people could chat in, world map vendor like advertising for events, and/or bulletin boards that could take long text and would be placed in NPC cantinas and PC cantinas, lot’s of options here.

  • Shady business deals – could tie in the sneaky undercover spy thing we all keep talking about.

How would you level in it?
You would have to actually run the missions to level. This would be done at the completion of the mission by either crafting an item with the materials the NPCs gave you or by completing the task they gave you of delivery, spying, promoting, entertaining, whatever it is the new ent mishes will have us doing.

It would be nice if you could actually be gaining ID, Dance, Music, or EH xp while you are running around, but we haven’t heard back on the In Concept thread yet so for now we’ll just say at completion of the mission.

Honestly though, I think it’s very important that this be an alternate form of leveling because it encourages at-the-keys play. It really should give a bonus to your leveling so that it justifies your time away from the cantina or your ID customers. This would kill many birds with one stone:

  • AFK dancers and musicians who are afk due to boredom would have an alternative to staying in one cantina in a full group 24-7 for days on end for the best xp

  • AFK dancers and musicians who are afk due to not really being people but future bots and cantina droppers could stop being hassled about hurting our only real source of income.

  • ATK supporters would feel justified that they were getting better xp for a few hours ATK play than a full day of AFK play

What would Masters get out of it? (and long-term non-master career ents)
Any master of any of the four could team with masters of the others to roll even bigger missions with even greater rewards: loot and/or pay. A master of two or three would have the most earning potential.

This would be a great way to network with other career ents and would give us back a lot of the ent to ent socialization we all miss from the old cantina groups. This would be helpful for event planning, schematic swapping, trading tips, or just some god old fashioned Socializer gossip.

Notes:

Entertainment Healing XP should either not be capped or capped with a very high level before Novice Dancer or Musician with this new line. EH is very slow going and this should not slow your progress down at all. If it would be allowed to put everything that would have been spent in the old Healing Line (and more maybe), that would be a real improvement.

While schematics should be offered, they should not be the means of leveling. That should stay tied to mission completion and the only crafting that should be required is if that was part of the mission.

Another option for leveling this line would work something like a "General Entertainer XP" (think general artisan crafting xp or general med xp). You could put any ID, Dance, Music, or EH xp towards this line and/or put any Showbiz xp towards the other three lines. An easier way to do it that is existing in game would be to just replace all novice XP with a general Entertainer XP. That would put a somewhat different spin on the proposal though and might freak some people out.

The money earned from the missions at each difficulty level should be equal to that of combat missions from novice combat to master… the cost association should be the same as well though so it will be fair: travel costs, time, equipment, and some kind of risk. I want us to have the ability to earn money and levels this way, but we need to be putting forth as much effort as the combat classes… just in our own way.

Disclaimer: Yes I’m posting in all four forums, please don’t hurt me. >< I just think this could really be helpful and include all four of us so I’d like to see everybody’s opinion.

Maybe I should have "test marketed" it in the dancer forum before I posted it in all four.... or maybe people just aren't ready for "god old fashioned" anything, ha!

Oh well, it does add some nice color to the boards at least.

A lot of interesting ideas here. I like the idea of making gig missions more important and significant. My guess is that the devs won't like the idea of raising earning potential, though. They are quite preoccupied with the opposite: creating more economic drains. Still, it is true that our gig missions pay too little and are of too little significance to gameplay.

Could I ask a favor? Would you mind posting a shorter summary of this proposal in my sticki'ed post on "Brainstorming" ideas? I've asked the devs to monitor that particular thread, so your proposal has a better chance of being read by the devs if it's in that thread. Just try to shorten it so you don't lose them. Also, I will summarize that and other new proposals in a periodic "Big List o' Fun Ideas" for the devs in the Correspondent Forum.

i like the idea of fame. although i didn't read your entire proposal (as it was quite long and i am a busy, busy man) i would very much like for people to idolize me like britney spears or madonna. lol. fame should be acquired through a gradual proccess with no limit or boundaries. fame should only be useful to long term musicians and dancers, and not for jedi grinders. fame should be its own thing.. maybe another tree that takes up no skill points. it should affect how NPCs in town react to you and the level of your entertainer missions. oh, and fame should not be able to be acquired through skill tapes =)

I must agree that as it stands the Ent profession is lacking on all fronts. A complete overhall is needed to maintain the integrity and balance of game. Fight the good fight Panthu XOXO, Dinnius
