OK. I've been playing SWG for about a month and a half now. I started of with a crafter on one server who is aiming for Master Artisan/Architect/Droid Engineer. That's going quite nicely now and I have lots of friends on that server.
A few weeks ago I started a new character on Test Centre, aiming to Master Creature Handler/Bio-Engineer, partly so that I could see how BE pets and combat droids compared so I was better equipped to comment on the DE forum. By chance this character ended up as a Trandoshan (I randomly picked the species) so I decided I'd better pick up some combat skills so that I could effectively duel (and hopefully take the pelts of) any Wookies I happened to cross paths with. I haven't played with the character much, since he's my second character not my main, but a couple of days ago I decided that I'd picked up so much battle fatigue that it was time to visit a cantina. Now Test Centre is quite sparsely populated and my character has no vehicle so I was hoping that there would be some entertainers in the city I was nearest to. Turns out there were. Six of them. All AFK. I was pretty disappointed by this but it made me start to wonder - would would it be like to play as an entertainer?
I created a new character on yet another server with the intention of Mastering Entertainer/Dancer/Image Designer. I decided I wouldn't actually use this character yet since I'm going to be away for two weeks over Easter, so I just logged in ran around a bit and logged out. Today I started up Galaxies, got to the character selection screen... and hesitated. I really wanted just a taster of entertainer, just to see what it was like. So I logged in with my entertainer character and started dancing. At first it was a little slow. There was no one in the cantina, so I was just dancing for myself and doing missions. Then I suddenly realised I wasn't bored. There might not have been anyone to chat to but I was having fun just making up a couple of macros to play a sequence of flourishes (first time I've ever used macros and the only thing I think they're really valid for).
After a while I decided to head to another city and see if I could find anyone to dance for. I got off the shuttle and headed to the cantina to find a group of people and one on-duty at-keyboard dancer. We formed a group and I spent the next half-hour to and hour dancing and chatting to her and her friends. Seeing that this was a new character she and a couple of others each tipped me 20-25 thousand credits. My established crafter doesn't make money that quickly! I had to log off to get some food and decided to go back to my main character afterwards. So I finished eating, logged back on and started surveying for some resources so I could set up some more mining installations. In less than ten minutes I was itching to get back to my entertainer character. I don't know why, I just really enjoy being an entertainer. So I logged back off and spent another couple of hours with my new character. I have the feeling I'll be spending a lot more time in the cantinas dancing away from now on.
I blame the AFKers. If those entertainers on Test Centre had been at the keyboard I probably never would have started wondering about what is was like to be an entertainer. I certainly had never planned to start an entertainer character. Now I just can't wait to get back to the cantina...

Nice to hear a good story! This thread certainly went a different direction than I expected!!! BRAVO!
I have been entertaining for months - THAT fame moved me into the postion of being chosen and elected as my cities mayor.. which has grown to be a Metropolis under my watch. I love my job(s)!

I did almost the same thing myself. I didn't intend to play the character, but once I started talking to some people in the game and making friends as a dancer, I found I really liked it and mastered Entertainer/Dancer/ID. Though my master musician was a little neglected.
