I think ent can be really good for newbs. You can meet a lot of people and you get to hear all the latest news on hunting spots, weapons, guild wars, which crafters are staying stocked with the latest must-haves, and anything else you can think of.
If you are a complete newb, I see nothing wrong with training all the novice starter boxes though, just so you can get a real feel for the game. Anytime I start a new char justto play around with, I train Ent, at least one of the two combats, scout, and medic. They all have useful skills starting out even if you intend on going full Ent later on down the path.

Another little "perk" I've found with starting out as an entertainer and dancer is that there are at least a few people around who think it's a lot of fun to take a dancing girl out and train her how to fight. If you wanted to combine a combat profession with entertaining, you can find some seasoned vets willing to take you out into the field and show you the ropes.
I had a blast running around in the Nightsister stronghold with my Apprentice Dancer tag up. Course, I hid waaaay in the back, and just took useless little potshots at things, but it was still a lot of fun. BTW... great scouting experience at Novice Scout harvesting rancor meat that the real combat vets took down... ![]()
