Thread: Question about a solid server for a new Entertainer...

Hi there, I have decided to start playing SWG. After looking over the porfessions I have decided that I will start out as an Entertainer. After four years of EQ I'm quite in the mood for an 'alternate' MMORPG experience outside of "See mob, Kill mob, Repeat". I'm also a great lover of Star Wars so I think this may be what I'm looking for. I know that dancing can be repetitive also, but it will be different, and I can socialize/make up my own jokes n' chat whilst in the cantina.

So, my question is this, which of the servesr has a relatively good environment for a new Entertainer to start on? I've seen plenty of cool signatures on this board indicating that there are some really well organized bands and such. That's the kind of encouraging environent I'm looking for. A server that is conducive to folks getting that organized.

Lastly, I am in the mood for a more casual play time experince than I had in EQ. No more 6-8 hour raids for a while as my life's scedule can no longer afford it. So I have no intention of 'holo grinding' or any such thing. I just want to be that friendly non-AFK dancer/musican in the cantina.

Thanks in advance for your response(s)...

What you are looking for: heavy organization and casual play, are very rarely together. If you are looking for player events and such, often times there will be a lot of demands on your time. My last server was such a server (Intrepid), and let me tell you, I was rushing around for hours each day trying to get costumes, dancing at booked gigs, etc. Every Saturday nite felt like a marathon going to three straight gigs and staying on from 5-12. Indeed, the entertainers of Intrepid would rather play at private parties than provide service to travellers, and they are a very tight group which will be very helpful toward you, but will also demand more of you as you become more established. On the positive side, there is more to being an entertainer there than mere cantina talk with the travellers. If you are looking for a real playerevent server, Intrepid is a good choice.

My new server (Bria)is the opposite extreme. The server has almost no events, and the players are generally not interested in most of the potential for player content. Patrons walk in and out of the cantina, and there is only a small, loosely organized and informal entertainment community there. The bad thing is that there is rarely anything special to do. The good thing, however, is that the server is rather casual. I can pick up and do my thing whenever I can, rather than plan myplay whenever the other players and organizers want. If you are looking for a place to meet a lot of new people and work in your own schedule, Bria may be a good choice.

And as far as cities are concerned, I say stick with the three most heavily traveled worlds (Corellia, Naboo, Tatooine), and maybe go to the "second cities" on each one: like Tyrena, Moenia, or Anchorhead.

We are on Naritus and I think it's the best server I've even been on. And I love my job as Entertainer/Mayor.

Check out FFWB (FamousFatWookiee Band) on Ahazi for a great band.

But before you check them out, come check me and my town out on a Monday night at one of out parties. Clear Water Plains, Naboo -- (5670 5890) at the Red Lekku Canteen starting at 7pm EST. Look for Woccatonk, Nichu, or me

Darling Sirii, I have to disagree with you here. True, the entertainer events on Briahave dwindled since Shianse and Javier left, but we do still have them. And ent event a couple of weekends ago moved from a solo gig to a Cantina Crawl (and theplayers in Moenia were thrilled to see us, I might add). We just don't have them every single weekend as we know that people have real lives. Unfortunately, the one we were planning for this coming weekend (the grand openning of Howling Santuary) has had to be posponed for that very reason - real life interferring with fun!

I can't speak for other groups of ent friends, butour little trouptends to be a "spur of the moment kind". We try to keep the ent chat channel active and ask where everyone is and often jump planets to perform with each other just because it sounds like fun. A few nights ago, we were asked to perform for buffing and healing for Doasa's guild during a nightsister raid on Dath - we were able to be available because we don't overbook ourselves. And we actually aren't adverse to showing some of the NPC cantinas what a live group of entertainers look like, either.

Oh I never said that you all don't like to have fun. Much the opposite. But its all within the context of the moment. Indeed, when I get a little further along, I'll join you at some events and get togethers. But when you are competing with the other twelve people who entertain for a living for part of a 10M prize package in front of an audience of hundreds, the stakes, and the seriousness, are that much higher. That was what being a performer on Intrepid was like. Fun for awhile, but it stressed me to the breaking point.

First, thanks for the pointers. PoetDancer, your're right, I'm not looking for ultra heavy organization and being stressed. I had that in EQ. So, I'll have to settle for something between that and me solo dancing/playing all the time. Bria sounds like a good suggestion. I'll think on it with the other ideas and jump in to character creation tonight or tomorrow to get on my way. I'll let you folks know what I decided.

Well, if you choose Bria come look us up in Veritas. We'd be glad to take you under wing and help you out. One of our guild dancers is also a master tailor . . . .

I can only speak from my personal experience, but Ahazi's been very good to me.

We seem to have a nice balance of the PvP and roleplaying communities, some very talented people keeping RP storylines running, and at least a few entertainer PA's, including the FamousFATWOOKIE Band (/cheer FFW!) and my own newly-launched LIVE Entertainment guild. Organization levels seem to hit the full range between intensive and casual; there's a place for anyone's style here. I've met a lot of people very supportive of and generous to live ATK performers, and although I've seen my share of the bad seeds in the cantinas, I've never had any problems.

What's the "best" server to start an entertainer on? I have no idea... I'd be willing to bet that each have their good points and bad. Just wanted to share my experience from Ahazi over the last month. If you should decide to drop in on Ahazi, send me an in-game mail - I'd be glad to show you around.

Good luck, and don't turn to the AFK macro Dark Side!

Like my sister Kirah said there is always room for new Ents on Bria. If you do decide to try Bria look as up in Veritas, Naboo. We had another dancerwho found us on the boards start a short time ago, Dranon, he enjoyed it so much he stayed and joined the PA to boot! Whichever server you try I'm sure you'll have fun. I love this profesion even if I do complain about it from time to time. I guess if we didn't love it we wouldn't care enough to complain.

Ok, I made my character on Bria last night. I named him Shailas Zann and picked Coreilia as a starter planet. I wanted to start on Naboo, but there were no 'travel routes' available from the starting shuttle. I mainly wandered about and got familiar with the UI and set things up how it seemd to work best for me. My goal at the moment is to do some of the newbie missions so I can earn enough cash to make it to Coronet City and eventually Naboo. Once there I may well look some of you folks up that offered to show me a thing or two.

Oh, I did try to do one of the newbie gigs from an Entertainer mission terminal and I went to the local cantina in Doaba Guerfel and danced for about 50 minutes straight, but never got an indication that I had accomplished anything or what have you. I read in another thread down the list that you do not actually meet with the NPC listed in the mission to start. So I just picked a spot and started at it. Is there something else I need to do? On the bright side I got my first 1000 points of dance experience so I can get a jump up the skill tree when I get some more cash.

Thanks again for the help, folks...
