Entertainer Pets

I posted something of this in the Roleplaying section, but here is a better spot. To fill in the massive Roleplaying holes and to create a seemingly more real atmosphere to the game I think the developers should consider giving all of you social professions pets of your own.

A version of this was suggested elsewhere on the forums and it is an awesome idea. I would suggest allowing players to buy/create special pets that have no combat or practical value other than to perform in social functions.

The /tellpet command could be used to get them to say whatever the player wishes and certain special actions could be available through the entertainer profession (such as dancing or playing music, or even feigning death). They could be ‘crafted’ by Image designers or other entertainer professions and sold as other pets are by creature handlers or bio-engineers. Customizable options could include clothing as well as the existing options available to image designers. This could also give players access to the many additional unplayable alien races vicariously. This would add value to the entertainer profession and would vastly improve roleplaying events. Musicians could have back up singers, and dancers could have a troop of their very own to follow them around (or just to fill in for missing players). All of those theatres could be used to actually perform plays if people where so inclined. An actor or thespian profession could even be created. Personally I would suggest using Image designers to craft the look, and using other entertainer professions to “train” the actor npcs for their various functions as creature handlers do for bio-engineers.

Best of all (from a developers point of view)this would require a minimum of extra coding. All of the basic systems required already exist for other professions and it would create a inter-dependent economy between the social professions as well as add a fair bit of content to the game (and it would make it easier for players to add their own content)

This may seem a little strange at first... but think about it!

Oh and by pets I meant humanoids not furry creatures

Although that brings to mind Siegfreid (?) and Roy....

I'm personnally fond of my squall named AFK - I keep reminding people not to tip him - but they still try to anyways - this pet always dances AFK and hasn't finished master dancer in 8 months - you figured he'd be done by now.

I absolutely had to lift your idea from you on Ahazi here... I hope you don't mind. I just couldn't resist. Though mine is a Greater Shaupaut, and I've made him into my dance partner for Coronet. Such a bad monkey... AFK all the time, only one dance step learned.

The idea for pets isn't new, but I'm not sure if I've seen someone suggest making it a new profession before.. That is certainly an intriguing idea.. Perhaps something off master entertainer.. The skill tree could have something like branches for number of pets (Or maybe only just one to limit abuse?), abilities (greeting people, talking, etc), dance (Mirroring the dance boxes in entertainer perhaps?) and music (Again mirroring the music boxes for entertainer?)

Something to keep in mind should the opportunity arise. I've certainly wished I could have someone to lay music for me at times. I never did like dancing in silence.

I haven't tried yet no. Aren't the droids novice musician? I don't have that on my dancer at the moment. I could probably try it with my musician though. Doesn't help people who aren't musicians.... But then, I suppose if it's a new profession, might as well just spend the skill points and get musician and use a droid.

Yes, others have suggested bandleader professions and others involving entertainer pets, but not this precise variation. I love the idea, in general. FWIW, the new droids are a step in that direction.

Tiaga, I'm told that I can /bandflo bandfill (thus /bandflo'ing my droid) and then do what I want -- including dance. Have you tried that? You could have your droid lay down the Ballad or Waltz bass track while you do your Exotic thing. Too bad the droid only plays the bandfill part, but it's better than nothing.

Not a bad idea to bring more diversity into the game, thanx for bringing it to everyone's attention
