Thread: Drumming up support for a new idea:

I came up with this idea, and hope to get player support on it.


Entertainers receive a combat based skill called distraction. When used in combat they play their respective instrument, or dance a certain dance. When this is done NPC's can be distracted.


Distracted makes them vulnerable to increased damage, and during this time they can not attack. Very similar to how Knockdown or Warcry functions, except this is from an entertainer. I also think that entertainers should be able to dance or play music anywhere and if you watch them, this heals BF and mind wounds.


This way our entertainers can come out and fight and serve a purpose in places like the corvette, death watch bunker, or Geo lab. Presently the game offers these classes nothing. Once hologrinding is gone for good, I fear there will be very few entertainers to depend on.

If it's so similar to knockdown or warcry then why would it even be needed. Sure Entertainers could use some additional features/abilities but overall we're a social and indirect combat support profession, not a direct combat one.


In a recent long thread there was the general feeling that, amongst dancers at least, that there was no desire for direct combat abilities as they were not in keeping with the SWG world and we didn't want to become the bards ofthe game. Other indirect combat support roleswere not ruled out though as they fit the design better.


Once hologrinding has gone sure there will be a marked decrease in entertainers around but one of the biggest reasons for people currently dropping our professions is because of hologrinding. Though I've not dropped Master Dancer I only dance in cantina's on occasion and rarely if ever in the crowded AFK filled big cantinas. I'm sure you'll find that after hologrinding is removed there will actually be an increase in ATK entertainers around as they find cantina's becoming the social hubs of the galaxy they once were before all the spamming AFK bots arrived.

I already think it's stupid that we get ranged and melee defenses as master musicians. What is my entertainer going to do? smack someone over the head with an omni box? Entertainer professions should be exactly that, and not combat professions. There are plenty of skillpoints left over to master an elite combat profession as long as it isn't BH or commando. Leave the combat skills for the combat professions, and entertaining skills for the entertainer professions. As for being able to heal anywhere? No, look what happened to doctor once everyone got their droids.

That would be just about the only use I can think of for an Ommni box anyway. I hate the things, they serve exactly the same purpose as a bandfill, and you have to keep them targeted at all times. IMHO they are the most worthless instrument in-game. (hehe and don't worry, guys. I'm far away from my Nalargon, so you are in no danger of "that" happening even if there is a post about people using instruments as weapons...)


Ok, anyway. Sorry to sidetrack the thread.


I agree with Klayton, I prefer to keep the distinctions between entertainers and fighters rigid. I created an entertainment character so I could effectively lift myself above the fighting, I have combat characters and crafting characters on other servers, there's no point (to me anyway) in making Lilo have to go out on the battlefields as well.


Something I would like to see, however is similar to what they did with the DW bunker and the Armorsmiths & Tailors. They found a good RP reason for the combat classes to take AS and TA's with them to the themeparks. I think it would be great if some of these dungeons required musicians to come along and calm an NPC's rattled nerves before it could reveal the secret information the player group is needing. Things like this would give us a use for our ranged and melee defenses as well as providing us with great RP'ing reasons to be included in combat without turning us into bards. Sorry, but I am not going to be a battlefield drummerboy. My style is more along the lines of being the bugle player in "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and entertaining the troops after a long hard battle, not playing music with people fighting and dying all around me. *shudders* Believe me, in the days when people lined up in rows and shot eachother in turn, I would much rather have been the guy right in front than the guy sounding charges in the back, it just seems somewhat barbaric to me to be playing music when surrounded by dying men.


Ok, sorry about that, I guess only the first part of that last paragraph had a thing to do with this thread. So...instead of going on about this anymore, I'll let the next person here rerail the thread. 8-)

No new ideas needed. It is obvious from THs post they have no clue how our system works so why would it be broke?

I'm plenty useful in battle. Look at my sig. Plenty of skill points to not only master dancer and entertainer, but pistoleer as well.


Well, I'd be more useful in a fight if pistoleer wasn't as broken as it is... But you get the point. For the same SP's as master Pistoleer, I could be TKM instead.


No need to confuse roles. We don't need battlefieldbards, in my opinion. Entertainers that want to fight canby using the rest of their skill points to do so.
