Thread: Get a /takeleader command

I will start off by saying that I AFK macro. I am online playing about 65% of the time, doing housework about 15% of the time (still within view of the screen) and then do the full AFK macro when I head off to bed. Throw whatever you want at me. This is a discussion about the way things are in the game and not a philosophical the way things SHOULD be...

I have been in too many groups where the leader will suddenly go AFK for either an extended period of time or all together - leaving the group locked. And as the group itself is comprised of mainly AFK players you have two choices - leave the group and try to form a new one - losing valuable exp - or simply sit locked for the rest of the time while LD characters stay on, those that have their macros interrupted just stand there staring and so on.

What I propose is a new group command called /takeleader. Here is the functionality of the command:

1) you enter /takeleader <name> the name being the name of the leader. This stops anyone from putting it into an AFK macro just to /grief people.

2) The leader then gets a popup window stating "<name> wishes to take over leadership of the group. Do you object?" The window stays open for 60 seconds.

2a) If the leader either clicks on "No" or the 60 seconds expire - the leadership of the group is transferred to the person who initiated the request.

2b) If the leader clicks "Yes" the request is rejected and either one of two things can happen at that point to stop /griefing from players constantly trying to /takeleader:

2bi) A counter begins on the leader - making him immune to any further /takeleader commands for a period of 10 minutes or

2bii) A counter begins on the requestor - making him unable to make any further /takeleader request for a period of 10 minutes.

Thus, anyone who is not AFK can make sure that the group stays healthy with people who wish to join, get rid of the 'dead weight' and so on. I feel this keeps the possibility of /griefing to a minimum, would require minimal coding (as the current code infrastructure could be used) and would help keep the entertaining profession free of the Zombie Dances from Hell.

Correspondant, please check and forward to the appropriate Dev.

Sounds like a good idea with applications in and outside of the Entertainer profession, but I'd make it so the requestor has the timer and not the leader.

Add an edit (can't do it in the body of the message - apparently the little > around the name is NOW reading as HTML and won't let me edit anymore )

Increase time to respond to 5 minutes instead of 60 seconds

Increase requestorlockout time to 30 minutes instead of 10 minutes

Both acceptable and will decrease in any grief (that way a leader can go get a drink or 'heed the call' without losing his command).

Does any of this really matter once the hologrinding stops?

Yes, it will, because entertainers will still want to level so they can do the cool dances, do the big buffs, etc. And there will still be groups with AFK people grinding the profession.

This is a good idea, but you wouldn't need to do the timer. /takeleader could be similar to /bandflourish. By default it is on, but you can turn it off if you want to.

So if the group leader knows he is going afk, he doesn't have to do anything special to allow someone else to take leadership. While he is gone, if someone else in the group wants to lead, they can /takeleader.

But the leader could prevent it using some command like "/takeleader off". Then no one would be allowed to take leadership from him.

Most leaders would have no reason not to allow someone else to take lead, but if they did have a reason, they could prevent it.

Why do I see this as an opportunity for annoying teenagers to fight for leadership while pissing off everyone else around them

disband and reform - it really isn't that hard - unless of course your trying to keep all the other AFK etnertainers in the group. For live entertainers it wouldn't be that difficult to reform.

DISAGREE

This would NOT be a problem as long as the leader has the option to disable the command (similar to /bandflourish on/off command). If it worked just like /bandflourish, then there would be no problems because if the current leader wants to prevent anyone else from taking lead, then he just disables /takelead. If he doesn't care or if he wants to leave the option open for other people to take leader, then he can. As long as the leader has the option to disable it, then it can't be used for griefing.

It seemed to me that the entire original concept here was to have a way to change the group leader if the existing one was AFK. By allowing the leader to toggle off the /takeleader option, do they not just do that, and then go AFK? And then there's no point in coding in a /takeleader command in the first place, as it can be easily disabled thus changing nothing.

Really, the issue is less about taking group leadership from AFK group leaders, and more regarding unattended game "play" as a whole. If AFK is going to be permitted and used, then one must accept the problems that it creates. Ifone does not like the problems that it creates, fight to have the ability to AFK professions removed. Without AFK automation, there is no problem with group leaders in this regard.
