Thread: Excited About SWG in 2005!

It's been awhile since I have posted a thread purely of my personal perspective.
So I just wanted to say that I am very excited about what SWG may become in 2005!
As far as Entertainers in particular, we just got some really cool new songs, and I think the Breakdance dance is awesome too! The dev. team is making considerable effort on fixing outstanding issues like the long-standing Dancer latency (?) bug, and removing the 15 second timer!
Also, I have been thrilled since reading the recent SWG Newsletter that mentioned an "Entertainer Upgrade" in the works!
I am happy for the new songs, and the new dance fixes! How ever I am both intrigued and worried about what the CURB will bring. For me as far as combat goes it seems very good. However I am concerned with how it will leave Entertainers, I do not know for example if issues such as cost of our flourishes will be looked at in the CURB, because the new system will certainly have a bearing on that... It seems to me that the cost will need to be looked at so that all races can be a viable proposition as an Entertainer we will no longer be able to receive healing for the drain our skills take from us...
I can see several possible way the costs of flos are changed to ensure that in the new system we do not have races that can only entertain for a very short time before thay have to stop.
1) Reduce all flo costs so that all species can indeffinatly perform 1 flo per XP tickwith the near Master Level dances/songs/instrument.
2) Have a cost mitigation factored into one of our branches. This would mean as you advanced up the Entertainer Dancing and Music branches and say the Musician and Dancer Techniques trees that the cost of performing a flourish is reduced... The aim of this would be to ensure that if youuse your highest level dance/song/instrument no matter where in the tree you are the cost will remain constant as you advance. An example of how this would work: A Human Novice Ent can play SW1 each flo costs them 10 Action and Each XP tick costs them30 Action to continue. When they have Mastered Musician playing Virtuoso would now cost them 10 Action per flo and 30 Action per XP tick, however if they were playing SW1 as a master Musician it might now cost them 1Action per flo and 3 Action per XP tick. While this could still leave it difficult for a species that say has Action handicaps (if such a thing exsist in the new system) they would still be able to Entertain (possibly even better than now)
3) Advancing in Dancer/Entertainer/Musician increases the size and rechargeof the pools our skills draw on.
This means we have a part of our professions that can be changed to something even better than we had.
Even if this doesn't happen it doesn't matter much to me. The reason for that is healing and buffing is not why I play an entertainer.
I play an entertainer to entertain.

Count me among the quitting as soon as the CU goes live. The changes coming to us are utter garbage, gutting our abilities, gutting our wardrobe, gutting our props. If all I can do with my 203 skill point investment in dancer, entertainer, and musician is toot my horn or wiggle my bum wielding a survival knife in an empty cantina... well, read the sig.
May 5 the combat upgrade will be released. I will lose most of my abilities tying me to the rest of the game, with the promise of more to be added in the future. I will lose the ability to equip most of my prized posessions, including 2 Night Sister Energy Lances, a set of RIS, and quite possibly lose the ability to equip my Night Sister Armor Bicep. Not only will I be reduced to mearly skill animating with no benefit to the rest of the game, I won't even be able to look my best doing it. Why would I pay $15/mo for that? Oh yeah, I won't.
You may lose your RIS, which many of us can't afford, and some of the races cant even wear if we could afford it, but you'd still have your jetpack, and your uber uber uber ship, and your great ability to get rare things like jetpacks and RIS, and all the friends that you've made that greet you daily, myself included.
Those things like the potential to get the rare goods, and to make the friends you do, and enjoy the friendships around elite activities and social activities that you do participate in regularly, I guess those things the rest of us value, you don't value much eh? It all comes down to some possessions, skill points, and what someone else gets away with...?
Balance...
