Thread: Entertainer XP Buffs, for the future?

WoW has a system in which you can take a "break", and after this "break" you get an improvement in the amount of experience you earn.

Wouldnt this be a worthy replacement for the Mind Enhancements?

It would work like this... go to the cantina. Get a buff. For 2 hours (or for awhile) all earnt experience will be improved.

This will not only apply to combat professions, but also Scouts, Artisans, Pilots and Medics, even Entertainers themselves. It offers a greater variety of customers, it doesnt make combat unbalanced, and it gives a very good reason why all players would want to take an Entertaining break once in awhile.

Its also more realistic. Instead of making people thick-headed as a bull, you rest their minds, so they are better at taking in and learning new information.

It also offers entertainers a more unique role, that cannot be replaced by other buffs, such as brandy.

Besides that, I also have an annoying sig that looks like part of the post.

I like that idea.... I would just add one thing:

Maybe it can even be used for Entertainers themselves, artisans, scouts, medics and pilots... giving a greater variety of "customers".

although not an entirely bad idea, buff bots will only make more money, we'd have to get them to crack down on buffbots before condsidering this option

Actually, buff will be gone before the bot...
With that much of the need for the profession...
AFK buffers make active players less useful, but without something to offer, they are completely gone

I think nobody want them to leave, but with the entertainer revamp they really need a new and exciting role.

thats a kinda cool idea, but , ya know, the devs still wouldn't let us "buff" ourselves, and without the removal of unattended play, there'd still be buffbots aplenty. but i agree, it is a bit more logical than doubling my brains ability to take damage (a moot point as of may 5).

p.s. are there any dischordians (a funky little group of people obsessed with emperor norton and cinco de mayo) that see the release of the CU and nationalCorona day (in the fifth year of the mellenium, no less!!!) as some sort of conspiracy? lol

Actually, I was discussing this idea of yours with someone just last night while playing on "that game". He is a person who has plenty of online gaming and MMO experienceand had read this post, also. He thought it was viable (as did a guildmate who playe EQ2 and saidSOE doeshave a similar ability there).

The downside is that it wouldn't make us usefulasa profession- just the cantinas. I'm not sure that would be enough for many entertainers who want to be more than just fluff.

This seems like a pretty cool idea to me. Of course it would still leave the buff bot problem, but I'd still like to have something usefull to do, even if I have to compete with them.

EDIT: Ok maybe I missunderstood. The ents wouldn't have an active roll in this? Just being in the cantina alone would get you the buff? If that's the case, then it's not such a fun idea. Although it would get rid of the need for spammy buff bots, but we still couldn't make a living since just being in the cantina gets you the buff.

And Rosaria, you bring up a good question. *passes around the tin foil hats*

Thats a cool idea, but it doesnt do anything for the many many players that no longer get or need XP. I know plenty of folks in game that have achieved the skillset that they want and are sticking to it. So they would have zero use for this kind of service. But still, your idea is at least 'something', which is better then nothing at all. =)

No, i didnt meant "stand in the cantina for awhile". Thats how it works in WoW I think, but in SWG we actually have real entertainers... so ofcourse I meant that the "buff" must be applied by an actual live entertainer...

The push for an entertainer-revamp after the cu (should have been done WITH the cu imo) will be great. In that revamp, afk-entertainers will most likely be removed... but in the same revamp they ofcourse need some fresh new ideas how entertainers may be able to offer something valuable to thoose who pass along.

It even includes the "powergrinders" who normally dont feel they have the time for a buff. With this they would actually earn from taking a break!

(and in my personal opinion, entertainers should be able to play beyond the cantinas, just like doctors... )
