Instead of admitting defeat and giving up our elite professions I want them to make the professions and their skill point costs worthwhile. I also don't want to be told what flourishes to perform, I actually try and make interesting tunes and randomly ordered flourishes will totally destroy that.

Here's my ideas. Stick me on a pike or whatever if you don't like em.

Consolidate all current musican, dancer, and ID abilities into entertainer. Branches: Dancer, Musician, ID, BF healing

At Master:
Mind Buffs
Hold any weapon/item (cert check to attack/defend with)
25% of all dances/music/healing speed/ID functions etc.

Buffing:

Must be grouped
/setperform starts sequence

Screen text over head of character where 'bandleader' requests random flourish every 10 seconds
Character must perform correct action within 8 seconds
After 90 seconds of successful matches buffs are applied and sequence ends

Amimius and Areanna Spinner (Chilastra Retired)

Etheo and Arennea Endheart (Chilastra Talus - part time entertainers)

Thanks for your thoughts and reply. Good to know someone is left alive in here.

Here we hit the problem I always have every timesomeone bring up consolidating entertainer professions. I don't want to have to learn music or ID skill to get 25% of my dances.

Even if it's much fewer skill points spent? How is different? You feel that all of those 18 boxes to Master Dance give you something?

Well I wouldn't want dancer to take much fewer skill points, down to the same level as crafting professions yes but no lower. They should be looking to add to the entertainer professions after the CU to make them worth the skill points they cost, not basicaly giving up on the professions.

I'm not certain I'd like having all the entertainer professions "lumped" together either. I don't have the same "feel" for creating good songs as most of the musicians I know. I'd have to constantly ask them to help me so I didn't just sound like a deaf rhino snorting into a horn. Also, I tried ID on another character once... I lasted all of 5 minutes. I don't wear cosmetics in RL and tryingto help someone else choose a new skin tone, lip color, eye color, etc... Please just kill me now

Also the idea of having players request flourishes or songs/dances was brought up once by the devs and I nearly foamed at the mouth. Half the flourishes in the exotic lines of the dances are identical (flourish 4 - 8) and they are an ugly shimmy jiggle where you hold your arms straight out to the sides, stand on your toes, and sort of "jiggle" around in a circle. I'd have to put a searing bolt of energy into someone's head if they expected me to perform that flourish. I also didn't much care for the idea of being "ordered" to perform like a trained pet, especially sinceI have no doubt some people would use this system just to grief or demean entertainers.

I wonder though if perhaps this couldn't work in the opposite direction some how.... Perhaps the entertainer could actually be the one to initiate the buff session.

Entertainer initiates a "buff command" which gives the player a "popup window" where the default is No. Player must select yes, and then the buff session is initiated.Obviously we'd need to have some way to prevent the deranged entertainers from simply spamming everyone and their brother with a "want me to buff you" window but maybe it's time to consider a complete reversal of the unexpected/invite window that we currently get hit with.

Would something like this be workable and be acceptable by those wanting buffs?

Ya know, I'd be just as happy with the other proposal on this board: Take away entertainer and let the three elites stand on their own from a novice of each. That and the recent dev post to devalue AFK.

I just think it's a matter of being practical. The chance that they ever be able to fill out what are essentially role playing professions seems slim to me.

I play the role for fun. That should be the emphasis. Make them fun first and useful if they can.

It's true it would be less points overall. But, the problem is that if you are required to get Master Entertainer in order to do all the dances and get all the benefits, then it takes out all choice of packaging yourself as a dancer or a musican. Not every dancer can play music, and not every musician can dance. It's the same reason I hate mandovial being in Master Entertainer. I feel that musicians are forced to take Master Entertainer to feel complete. If there's going to be a reduction of skill points, I want to be able to benefit from it in a greater way. I would rather there be...I dunno, no master box. One line of ID, one line of musician, one line of dancer, and one line of healing/buffing and you can pick and choose.

I know that all other professions have a master box, but they make sense. To be the best swordsman you get Master Swordsman. But, to be the best dancer, you shouldn't have to also be the best musician and the best image designer. Maybe it's just been so long and they are so distinct in my mind that I have a hard time with the concept of rolling it all into one. Or, if there is a Master Entertainer box, I'd like it to be something like the other Novice profession boxes...a compliment to them rather than a "must have." Master Entertainer/Performer box would be a GREAT place to put future player event perks. But, keep exotic 4 at Dancing IV. It's kinda like Master Artisan. You don't need Master Artisan if you just wanna survey, or just wanna be merchant, etc. But, as a Master Artisan you get other kinds of perks such as the ability to make vehicles.

The devs said the big picture hasn't been revealed yet, so this could involve:

* Other types of buffs other than Inspiration by a single entertainer/musician/dancer (maybe Clarity to improve healing, Leadership to improve SL skills etc).
* New dances and songs for groups of entertainers (say a band of musicians or a dance troupe), that would confer advanced buffs. These could be scored on co-ordination, variability, originality, symmetry etc to remove the AFK or macroed element and provide a degree of variability in buffs. These could improve different aspects than the single-entertainer buffs, such as improvements to accuracy, defence and evasion, prototype crafting speed etc.
