Please feel free to discuss inspiration buffs in this thread also.

Inspiration Buffs

An Inspiration Buff will be the replacement for Mind Buffing for Entertainers post Combat Upgrade. Players will have improved XP (experience) gains, improved faction point gains, and increased crafting successes. An Inspiration Buff will be applied in a similar method to the current application. The only change is that to both the entertainer and player the process will be transparent. No action is required from either other than listening or watching the entertainer and the entertainer to dance or play. This is to provide a simple and easy system for both involved.

What is an Inspiration Buff and how long can it last?

Inspiration Buffs are the replacement for Mind Buffing post Combat Upgrade. Inspiration buffs will increase one's crafting successes, faction gains and XP gains. All Inspiration Buffs will have the same effect regardless of whether they come from a Novice Entertainer or a Master Dancer. This means that an Inspiration Buff from a Novice Entertainer and Master Dancer will be the same. The maximum duration of an inspiration buff will be 3 hours. The time it takes to get to this maximum will depend on the entertainer's skill level. A novice entertainer may take a minute to give you a 30 minute inspiration, but the same minute spent with a double master dancer/musician with +25 skill tapes will yield a 3 hour buff in that same minute. The buff is a steady application and not in the old system chunks'. There will be no artificial time listened' breakpoints that have to be met for certain gains. It will be a simple system of the longer you listen the more buff time you will get, up to a maximum of 3 hours. You can even leave an entertainer's session and come back to resume the buff increase without having to start over. (I.e. if you got an hour buff and then had to go to a bazaar terminal for a bit, when you return the buffing session would start from whatever you have currently.)

How does an Entertainer give an Inspiration Buff?

Entertainers will give an Inspiration Buff exactly the same way that they current give Mind Buffs. When a player watches or listens to an Entertainer, each successive "Entertainer pulse" will result in adding more time to the buff in progress up to the maximum amount of time just like the current Mind Buff mechanics work.

What does an Inspiration Buff affect?

An Inspiration Buff will affect the following things::

1) XP gain
2) Faction Point gain
3) Crafting Success

The planned bonus will be set during the Combat Upgrade Beta but it will probably be around 10%. When under the effects of the buff an Icon will show in the buffs window with the duration remaining.

Where can I apply Inspiration Buffs?

Inspirations are applied using the same mechanics and restrictions as Mind Buffing previously did. You get Inspirations in Cantinas by watching or listening to an Entertainer, Dancer or Musician for a period of time.

Congrats !! sounds awsome ! I knew you would come up with something cool, even more exciting than it was before. I wish I had not dropped my entertaining skills long ago that sounds really really cool

Now crafters will come to cantinas too !! that will make those places much more interesting, offering an occasion to meet a famous crafter, the one you keep buying stuff from but never had a chance to meet. Cantina will become a true social building Sincerely congrats to you all !!

think that the idea of splitting the bonuses up into 2 seperate catergories is needed, Dancer and Musician should not have the same buffs. (On a sidenote ID needs something useful now that migration is going away)

On the credits issue, there should be a simple way for an entertainer to make money via these new buffs, the UI like the IDs have is a good idea, and perhaps being able to get like a 'table' (see: group) to be able to be intiated in this UI for the buff.

Example:
A group going out to grind on some faction/xp comes in for a dance, the dancer approaches and greets the group and asks who the group leader is, then the dancer brings up the UI and everyone in the group may tip what they feel and the dancer feel is agreeable. The dancer then performs (or musician, band, etc). This could even work group to group IE a group of entertainers (you mean a band!) could come up and do this, and it could NOT be done AFK if you make it a UI only, no console commands.

Also perhaps something useful for PVP would be nice too, like say we get a musician or dancer to come to the raid with us and be able to basically be a bard for us, we should be able to get a small bonus to say ability points or regen, the entertainer would have to be overt if the group was and would have to be close, but the benefit would be worth it, of course this would be a prime target at the start of the battle, and /gasp you could pay an entertainer to come with you into one of these battles. (though this isn't very likely some benefit to PVP and to tie in entertainers into the GCW would be nice, the non-neutrals ones of course).

Anyway that's my thoughts and proposals as a simple combatant who remembers tipping when it was considered necessary to both med and mind healers.

I posted the following in the In Concept thread.

Make a Image-Design-like Interface.

http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=230288 - Very quick sketchy thing.

Basically; the interface contains; (from the entertainers point-of-view, resizeable.

- an image of the performing entertainer.
- the ones listening/watching (in this case, a lot of swoops)
- a graphical view of how long time there's left to get full 3-hour buff.
- at the top-most swoop, there is a number (2000) - this is how much he has entered into a required tip field.
- the entertainer can enter an amount in the "Required Payment" field - this is the minimum amount of credits that the customer can offer (viewable by customers).
- when the red bar is filled, an ATK accept button pops up to the left of the one who's buff is finished. You have to click that to apply the buff and get your tip.
- if a customer stops listening/watching your required tip (or the tip he has offered) is divided by how big a % Red Bar he filled. You still need to press an Accept button.

This cannot be macroed. (The Entertainer Accept Button Mini-game. )

I'm happy that something will be given to the entertainers post-CU. With the current stat buffs, it was really only needed for serious gaming like dungeon raids and PvP. Grinders always had the option of taking two brandies to get the boost they needed. I think turning the tables to where grinders will need it would certainly broaden the customer base, butcouldn't there perhaps be a way of giving finished-templates some sort of bonus?

I was worried at first when I saw that novices would have the same effect as Masters, but the skill/duration idea is a nice touch. As someone else pointed out tho, it would be nice if the bonuses were split between the three professions. Perhaps dancers could give combat XP bonuses, musicians crafting, and IDs could grant factional bonuses? Granted, you won't see as many people asking for crafting buffs, but you also don't see as many musicians as dancers. But it would still give a reason to master all three profs.

One thing for sure is, this should not be able to be done while AFK. I know a lot of you may have seen my sig and thought "he's a Bounty Hunter, what the hell does he care?" But from a social point of view, I think AFK entertainers are one of the biggest problems in this game. Yeah I'm just a BH, but I actually enjoyed the days where I could RP as a seedy-character walking into a back water tavern, and perhaps talk about some of my recent hunts with some of the dancers or other patrons. Nowadays all I get when I enter a cantina is spams of "I NEED A HEAL!!11!" or "DON'T FORGET TO TIP ME" again and again. Excuse me, but what the hell are you doing that deserves a tip? Don't get me wrong, I think entertainers should be paid and paid well, but if I'm going to tip I expect you to at least be at the keyboard.

I think this is a perfect opportunity for the devs to turn this game around. The combat changes look very promising, but introducing a new buff system is the perfect chance to remove AFK-entertainers and fix the social state of the game as well.

the dream UI I would like see;

It would have 4 colums of info.

Customer's Name: A list of all the players listening or watching you

Flag: You can Flag a customer as a good or bad tiper/RPer or black ball them so they don't get any buff.

Inspiration Buff Bar: The bar shows starting buff andbuff he got from listening or watching you. exp.: ***********************

****** = Buff time he had before listening to you.

********* = Buff Time you have given him.

********= Buff time until maxed.

Entertainer's Focus: You could increase a customers buff rate by focussing on him/her. (auto split focus equally on all Customers)

example:

34% - Tom

33% - Dart

33% - Eric

------

100%

if you relly lik Dart you could change it to

24% - Tom

53% - Dart

23% - Eric

------

100%

I hope that makes sinse...

I like the idea behind providing alternative buffs that are useful for a wider variety of people but....

1) completely passive is a terrible idea. We need to get paid for services we provide. The BF and mind wound healing has taught us that passive = no pay

2) sounds like you have to be both a master dancer and master musician with +25 SEA to provide the full buff. Uhm... hello I can't carry a tune in a bucket. That's why I have musicians as friends. So how does that fit into this new plan? Also, how are we supposed to get those SEA's? Can I smash a shop window and just steal one since I don't have the money to purchase them and I don't have the combat prowess to kill the untold number of NS or whatever to get them? Or will all Master Dancers and Master Muscians be given a +25 SEA for having to put up with the AFK craze?

3) If we have one and only one service that we can provide then the master level has to be able to provide a better service. Not just faster but better. The difference between a novice brawler and a TKM isn't simply that the TKM can kill things faster. they can tackle much harder targets that the novice couldn't hope to survive. Our professions need the same distinction otherwise there's no point behind the skillpoint requirement.

The statement indicates they are making it a passive process to remove the confusion and complication for both parties. WHA?? How long have people been able to turn on their computer, press a macro button and provide buffs? That wouldn't be possible if the system were complicated.

the downfall is this. Master Musician and Master dancer, who earn credit base on tips will lose. Since the buff is passive, no need to ask for it. they will get it anyways. Not all Pure Entertainer have another character. they will be the one that will be hurt the most.

Sir_Voor wrote:

This could be a great way to get Entertainers into the war, just have neutral give 5% Faction Point gain, match Factions give 10% Faction Point gain and non-match Factions give 0% Faction Point gain.

but maybe, with this... those pure ATK entertainers can earn credit by going in the field and give it? But i can sense that, the rebels and imperials will have their +25 SEA Buff Bots there, instead....

Granted, I've had a horribly busy day at work, so all I've really read is the description of inspiration buffs and not the 9 pages of commentary that followed. This is what I posted:

-----------

I have the following concerns:

1) Buff bots. Same mechanics as before will lead to buff botting. I'm concerned that we will just go from mind buff bots to inspiration buff bots, and this will not do anything to alleviate the #1 concern of the communities.

2) Not enough of a functional benefit to being a master. You can get a full buff from a novice, it just takes longer. Not enough bang for your skill point buck. In general, not enough content to justify the skill point costs.

3) Professional overlap. Dancer and musician will do essentially the same thing with different aesthetics. In other professions, you get some sort of bonus for having two professions, whether it's stacking of abilities or diversity of abilities. This combo has neither because of the duplication of abilities.

4) How will entertainers be able to gain money from this? ID's got a secure interface, but I'm concerned that customers running off and stiffing someone will be no better than before.

5) ID's have had their "essential function" taken away without compensation. What is in the works for them?

6) CU group limits of 8 harm entertainers because it limits patrons for a buff and it limits XP gains.

Well looks like I can give up my master ent and master musician titles since a novice entertainer can give exactly the same buff I can by just listening or watching a little longer. This is the worst implementation they could have come up with. It benefits combatants and only combatants, nice job of making it very clear this is an FPS and not an RPG. Bots don't even need macros anymore and will never run out of action because they just need to be running the base flos. Hmmm thats why they fixed the base flos. Amazing how all the fixes we got was to prepare us for the combatants. No weapons unless certified - remove falling, no hunting for a master - give every ent the ability, no interaction with ents - make it passive, no flourishes needed oops we better fix those base dances since everyone will see them now.

I agree with NJ's post, and would like to add a few of my own words.

I think it is a huge mistake to make the buffs the same for a novice entertainer and a master dancer/musician. The old mind buffs couldn't even be given until novice dancer/musician, and got better with each level in the appropriate branch. Why was this changed?

I also worry that the devs are throwing us a bone and saying, "There we changed something, now we don't have to look at entertainers for a year or so." The inspiration buffs are a nice idea, but what of replacing mind wound healing and the buffbot problem?
