Thread: Thoughts on entertainers
I'm on the cusp of novice musician, and it seems to me that most folks don't realize what profession they actually are. As an entertainer you have to do a few things differently form other players. If you want to just hit a macro and stand around grinding XP, you're not going to make tips. Here are a few ideas...
The Band
The best way to consistently make money is to forget about XP and form a band. And I don't mean join a group of musicians. I mean play with the same folks every night. Treat it like a real band. Try having a leader in charge of band direction and flourishes. If you REALLY want to get into it...design macros for the musicians to "compose" a song. This would help make sure everyone comes in at the right time, etc. The leader can e-mail the macros for a specific song. Everyone loads them in, and at performance time, he gives the cue to start the macros.
This IS a performance. Let someone solo. Make sure you have a balance of different instruments. There are at least 4 different sounds on all of the instruments, so you can craft quite a nifty tune.
Have a singer. Someone can sit down and write lyrics and create a macro to sing them. /sing, /rap are your friends. If you were REALLY into it. You could even include background singing for the band in your macros.
Publicize your band, then go on tour. There are plenty of cities and stages to hit. It will take time, but you could conceivably build a following. Try to find outdoor places and use those dancers, lights, fireworks to craft a true performance. The leader can direct the audience to tip him and split the proceeds after the show.
The Street Performer
So you want the cash, but, like me, don't have the time to get THAT involved. Consider location. If you're in a bandof 10 entertainers, you're going to make jacks***. Try amore isolated place, if you want a better shot at tips. Partner with a medic, set-up a camp somewhere (Hmmmm, does Endor have a cantina?) and charge folks to come in and get healing.
Oddly enough, I've had my best interactions while playing at the shuttle ports. I do it to pass the time while running missions, but folks generally like ANYTHING interesting while they stand in one place.
If you want tips, you have to entertain, not heal BF or mind wounds. Look at real-life street performers...a lot more folks just walk on by than stop and tip, but the performer just keeps going. Tell jokes. Interact with folks. Make up cheesy lyrics, and switch songs. Again, if you want money, forget about XP and craft a good song. Switch up tunes and instruments or dance styles.
You're image of the entertainer is hopefully what we will see developing over time I, actual bands with full-scale performances worth paying money to see. These will be the true entertainers and some will even become famous nad wealthy as a result as they command top admission costs.
And street busking works excellently. Some of my cooloest social interactions have been just folks on the street and asking them how they are and where they are going.
To me my job in the game is to make things more interesting for other players, through all the tools at my disposal - singing, music, dancing, etc. And in-character, I expect a little reompense for my trouble. Out of Character, I could care less.
Thansk again for the fresh thoughts, hadn't seen anyone promote street performing yet.
