Entertainer Archive
Thread: /grouptip and /bandtip
1. The /tipgroup command were coded to only split tips amongst the ACTIVE (non-AFK/LD) members of the group.
OR
2. The overall game code were modified to make it impossible to AFK-Macro.
As for the whole lack-of-tips situation, I'm personally inclined to agree with the poster above. I'm not hurting for cash, and I've seen no problem with the amount of tips I get in the Tyrena and Coronet cantinas on Starsider. I'm a human male entertainer with a bit of a beer gut, and yet I'll usually walk out of a PUBLIC cantina after 2-3 hours with 2k in tips. No, it's not what you could make in destroy or delivery missions, but Darn it Jim, I'm an entertainer, not the FedEx guy. I've bought a new outfit just about every week, and still, my liquid funds seem to hover somewhere around 8k in cash and bank deposits.
I owe it all to two things - personality and good friends. I /welcome or /nod every character who walks in the cantina when I'm playing. I look at their HAM bars, and if they're heavily wounded or their /mood is exhausted, I'll assume my character can pick up on it and make small talk about how rough their day has been. I no longer spam anything about tips, but I'll assume the band-leader role and proceed to introduce the rest of the group I'm playing with to try to get some rise out of the audience. When things are slow I'll make up new lyrics or parody old ones, hop across the stage like Chuck Berry, or organize the 'big finish' to a song by lining up a couple of nice-sounding band flourishes and a /stopband. I'm not in a band because I haven't found a group I can work with on a regular basis, but if I were, I'd be all about the matching outfits and the choreographed stage shows. In other words, I try to be the hardest working, beer-bellied, unsponsored entertainer on Corellia, and I feel like a lot of people - even the non-roleplayers - respond to that with their tips.
Secondly, I was fortunate enough to fall in with a great group of friends and future PA-mates. We've got a marksman, a ranger, a scout, an architect, myself, and one other member (sorry Oo'len, but I haven't hung out with you enough to remember what you do), and we enjoy spending time with each other. We all work well together and enjoy each other's company in-game, and take on a sort of what-I-have-you-have mentality. I have a house I haven't placed yet (because I don't feel like my income merits anything more than a hotel room at the moment) and furniture to put in it. My last two instruments have come from our architect. Our scout and ranger have trained me in pistol and scouting skills on our various hunting trips together. And none of it has cost me a dime - okay, a tenth of a credit - because I've found people in this game who are good to each other and get enjoyment out of helping their friends.
Okay, so before this turns into a cult advertisement, I'm going to get out of here. But if you ever need someone to jam with on Corellia or any other planet, give me a buzz...

In response to the anti-macro: Yes, let's not turn the thread into that but, there's always a but, wouldn't it be the group leaders responsiblity to make sure you don't have afk macro users in the group? I mean I've only been an entertainer for a week but several times I've been in groups where the group chat is being used constantly and we are all talking to each other and if someone doesn't respond and has not responded than he is kicked. We figure if he is actually there and just busy he can always ask for another invite. I've even kicked a couple afker's from our groups. No one ever complains, because they aren't there.
The benefit of watching a group is clear for the patron, his battle fatiuge is healed more quickly. All members of the group contribute to this benefit. I just believe that all members of the group should be allowed to benefit from this as well.
At least give patrons the option of tipping the group as a whole.
I am really surprised that more entertainers aren't on board with this idea.
My first character was NOT an entertainer and therefor I thought, incorrectly it turns out, that this was something that would happen automaticly.
I thought that when I tiped a member of a band it would auto devide amungst the entire group. It doesn't.
I propose a /grouptip feature that a player can use when tipping musicians and dancers. That way everyone gets a piece of the action not just the first person the player happens to see.
Now I am not proposing that this would replace /tip as /tip comes in handy in other situations but it would be in addition to /tip.
I know as a male musician I don't get squat when it comes to tips. I can play my little virtual heart out for hours in the cantina and walk away with less than 50 credits for a whole evenings work. While the female dancer dressed in gause, played by a 13 year old boy btw, rakes in the credits.
So the proposal is this:
Create "/grouptip". Make it so a player can type "/grouptip 200" and each member of the group will get an equal share of that tip.
I know it sounds like it wouldn't be all that much money but anything would be better than the tips I've been getting for services rendered, which is no tip at all.
IF THIS IDEA HAS ALREADY BEEN PUT FORWARD PLEASE FORGIVE ME:
But I think it deserves to be revisited and pushed to the top of the entertainers list.
Sounds like a good idea to me, even though the only reason I need money is to either buy my new instrument or buy the goods for my new instrument, or to buy a new shirt. Though it'd be better if /tip itself split the money with the group, because you just know some guys are just going to seek out the girl in the skimpiest costume with the biggest chest and /tip her credits in hopes of getting some attention.
Though that may not be a concern at all if master tailor items didn't cost the same amount as a small house, minus ongoing maintenence.. well, at least for pure entertainers, that is.
Like they have for hunting parties with /autoloot and how one of those features automaticly splits the rewards from missions.
I still think /grouptip is the way to go though. At least then, as leader, when I broadcast the ol' "Welcome to the cantina yadda yadda yadda and don't forget to tip the entertainers" I can put in there "and don't forget to /grouptip the entertainers".
The only problem that I have with autospliting on regular /tips is what if someone is purchasing something from one of the group members and doesn't have the funds on him, he may /tip the player and then the entire group gets the money causing all kinds of havok and mayhem.
OOC:
This is a great idea. I would not want /tip to autosplit, but have the /tipgroup added separately. Entertainers are almost always in a group and sometimes the /tip isn't being used for entertaining, but for something else.
As for AFK entertainers, the answer is simple. Boot them from your group. Not only will this prevent them from getting a share of the tips, but also it may help to discourage AFK entertaining in cantinas since they would not get the experience gains that large groups provide.

Currently just for mission rewards and looting (if it even works for that
).
I think a /tipgroup would be great. Just add a pop up dialogue that each member of the group must "accept" to get their share. If they don't click it in like 5 minutes then their share gets divided amongst those who did click the box.
I asked because I was positive it worked for missions already. Once I was partied with someone to get taught a skill and when she ran off to complete her crafting missions, I got half her cash (which I of course tipped right back). ![]()
Since they already have the split loot feature in, adding it to tips probably wouldn't be difficult...If they decided to do it.
i don't normally visit this forum. But I am glad I did today. This is definately a good idea that needs to be put in place. When I enter a cantina and there is only one person performing, its easy to know who to tip. But when there is 5 or more people, it becomes a hassle to tip all of them. And I know that the one I am Listening/Watching perform is not the only one that is healing my BF and Mind wounds.
