Thread: Fun little idea for Entertainers :P
This is an idea that I just thought up and it was inspired by something that someone said on the GCW forum about you sneaky Entertainers trying a publicity stunt with the 'everyone's an Entertainer correspondent' to sell more albums. Now, now... I know it was a joke BUT it gave me an idea ![]()
This may have been heard on these forums but I'll try this anyway and it's just for fun TBH. ![]()
Okay, how about giving Entertainers (Musicians and Dancers) the ability to "record" their selves on holodisc and sell the discs to people for money. When someone uses the discs (one "charge" per disc like medkits) they can use it like mini-wound packs for their mind wounds and battle fatigue. Insert a timer so that the person can only use one per hour or so. This way it keeps people from avoiding the cantinas entirely but gives the entertainers the ability to make money by selling discs (which Artisans can make blank).
To make things interesting, the Entertainer can make a -little- XP off of the "use" but the more discs that are used made by a certain entertainer, the better the discs will be. This will sorta simulate the popularity of an artist and make their discs possibly be more sought out.. kinda simulating fame
Perhaps create a hidden talley of "uses" that steps up every "level".
I figured this would make things more interesting and I find it odd that you can't buy recorded holodiscs of enterainers in the Star Wars universe... I'm sure they have the technology but it just wasn't showcased in the movies at all.
Just a fun idea that I'm sure could be built upon/changed
I think it would be cool if we could buy artists music and sorta simulate (sorry for using this term but c'mon! heh) personality in an artists peformance.
It's an interesting idea if balanced right such that it does not change what we are.

This has been suggested a few times and it's a great topic for debate. Does the ability to record such things make us into a crafter class rather than a social class? Would anyone use the cantinas anymore if they could just buy pre-recorded mind healing? How would it work with buffs?

I was thinking that since you aren't really crafting anything you can't really be distinguished as such. For artisans, the thing that limits them from having an unlimited ability to craft is due to resources. For this idea, the limiting item is having to actually buy blank discs from artisans.
Also, only being able to use one holodisc per hour would be a way to balance it out. Like a travel ticket, once you use the disc you can't use it again.. I guess the real reason why I think something like this should be implemented is the ability to have fans.. I just noticed someone else had a better idea for this and that is by having people volunteer themselves and select who they want to be fans of. Not as much to mess with but I figured this would also create a way for an entertainer to make money.. like we have in the real world. Artists make money off of sales
Just a fun little thought.
There's also the major probability that IF they were to implement it they would botch the job.

That's great! Just like releasing a CD! The one use per hour sounds like a good idea, although IF this gets ingame, I somehow doubt the devs will implement it.
If these performance holodisks did everything an entertainer could provide, why wouldn't people just stock up on their Entertainment Stimpaks and never actually come see us again? But what if they only provided a small fraction of what we do?
For example, what if the holodisks could only heal BF, no mind, no buffs. Each disk also has only a limited amount of BF that it can heal - their purpose is not to be a portable entertainer, but perhaps more of a limited emergency BF kit. The idea that when a soldier is out there, completely battle-torn and weary, that taking a look at the equivalent of their favorite centerfold or hearing their favorite band for a few minutes helps take their mind off things a little. Just a little. Looking at a holorecording of your favorite dancer would never be as good as being right there... star-struck and all, as they performed just for you...
Would this be useful? I've never played a combat profession, so I'm not sure. But it's an example of one way it might be done without substantially changing the entertainment professions, nor making live entertainment obsolete.
Comments?
But I'm as much of a noob as they come....
