Thread: Is it true...SWG, a waste of time?

The ranting about how SWG has no content for me, is it true? (Can't really play right now...certain... "complications")....
What the game had lacked was more traditional gaming elements, like, uh, goals. hehe ... most MMORPGs get and keep you hooked with striving for that next level where you get some killer new ability you _must_ have, or getting through the dungeon that has a super low drop rate for that uber rare loot you _must_ have, or that super hard long quest that gives you some huge character completing thing you _must_ have. It's a mule chasing a carrot on a lure scenario, but it's what makes these games so addictive. Well, SWG had none of that.
That's why I think all of this emphasis on "preserving the social aspects of the entertainer classes" has been so silly, the whole game is so social aspect central instead of goal central I don't see how that could ever really do a complete 180 for these classes. *shrug* This doesn't really have anything to do with you yet or your question though, so....
If you are a power leveling uber loot seeking type in other games, I think a whole lot more content is coming down the pipes in that way (I personally like carrot chases, I say bring it on!)... if you are a more laid back player that just wants to have a pretty environment with some social interaction through either group hunting or role playing, I think this game does it better than any before it... if you are wanting to have heavy PVP action and a real cause to fight for with real rewards for your character (like skill mods for bases), I don't see that happening anytime soon... if you just want to be a jedi, this is a weird time to come in.
So, as long as you aren't gung ho PVP or jedi seeking, I think the game has a ton to offer and tons more in the way of gameplay coming very fast.
I was hoping to run my own cantina, be an entertainer for live entertainment. For kicks fo out and work some TKA skills on some stuff...Have a pretty decent, fun, and lucrative business in short. But after reading what was said about player evenets failing, cantinas failing, everything failing....Is it true? Should I even bother?
Im a relitively new player to SWG. Been playing a month and a half now.
The GAME is still fun. I have no desire to be uber or super rich so I am still enjoying the game itself.
However the bugs... nerfs... bad Customer service and unresponve/unlistening Devs are dragging me down BAD.
Yes, it's true.. it's a total waste of time! But then again, so is TV, surfing the internet, and ANY computer game! ![]()
I've been playing for hours every day for MONTHS and I'm not bored yet. I'm not an uber player, only mastered one profession - but going on two. I've only been in one guild (it morphed to another name, tho) and been in the same city for many weeks.
I started in entertainment, deleted that character and went combat and droid engineer, but quickly drifted back to entertainer - made master in two weeks. I'm now mayor of a city on lok (i'm the second mayor). Between running the cantina and meeting visitor and running the city, I stay busy enough interacting and helping others. The game is perfect for the style of game I want to play. In many ways, this game is combination of several types of programs: shooter, lemonade stand, racer, chat room, fashion, with a fishing game thrown in for good measure. If you are bored, it would be your own fault.
For someone who is so busyrushing thru professions, grinding to become uber, missing out on the social interaction and taking each day as it comes.... I can see how they would think the game is boring, i guess... but I would suggest they bought the wrong game in the first place.
I actually think the non-entertainer aspects of the game have gotten a lot better recently. A couple new dungeons have gone live, and the "instanced" Corellian Corvette dungeon, now on Test, sounds awesome; the Theme Parks have more interesting rewards; carbineer and other combat classes have seen improvement; and Player Cities add an element of community missing from games like EQ.
But our professions have actually gotten worse since launch. Not by design; it's just that the AFK plague makes it less fun to be an entertainer now than it was at launch, when an entertainer-bot was considered an oddity. It's a social profession, and it's harder to be social with AFK spam filling the air. It's still fun for me; just not as fun as it was at launch. On top of all that, we entertainers lack any post-Master content. At least combat classes can quest for new weapons and schematics. We can't.
Still, on the whole, I'd say SWG has come a long way. It can be quite fun.
The problem isn't AFK - that has not diminished our content. It was always there. What hurt us were the ppl coming to grind THROUGH the profession- and we know where that came from.
We can fix our own content problem by leaving the zombie zones and establish ourselves in player cities. It works, believe me... or don't.
