Now that I'm more aggressively attempting to spend time in groups again, I'm having an internal conflict on how to act when I'm group leader.
To try to express my interest in ATK entertaining and my disapproval of AFK entertaining, when I get group leader I have been kicking members of the group that are AFK. When someone is asking for a new leader, when I volunteer I always give the caveat that I'll be likely to kick those that are AFK, and so far no one's complained about that at the time the leader change has been being discussed.
When I do find an AFK entertainer in the group I'm leader of, I ask in groupchat, spatial, and finally through tells if that person is there. If I get no response, I /tell them that in the interest of keeping a lively awake group, I'm kicking them, and that when they return they can send me a tell to get back into the group.
Well, I recently did this to someone who was away shortly (I don't know how long she was away total, but she returned shortly after I kicked her), but got quite upset at being kicked while she was away. I don't want to be spreading ill will, but I do want to keep the group I'm in live.
I'm honestly not doing this as some kind of punishment or revenge for afktaining, but rather so that I can be associated with live entertainment, which I want to support.
What do ya'll think about this? Is this the right way to handle it? Are there other ways of doing this that won't make people angry?

People tend to get very touchy about this. Personally I would only kick people who are AFK under the following conditions:
1. If they have any begging spam in their macro for heals or tips, they are not welcome in my group. I warn them and give them a chance to get rid of the spam. If they don't respond or refuse to change, they get kicked.
2. If the group is full and LIVE entertainers need a group, I'll certainly kick people who've been AFK for an hour or more so that an ATK person can have a spot.
3. And of course I kick people who are LD for more than 15 minutes or so.
The above rules seem to have worked well for groups that I led or was just a member of.

We only fall into trouble when we start accepting a zero tolerance policy. I'm flexible. Like the last poster, I will most certainly kick anyone I've seen spamming, LD, or has been AFK for 30 mins or longer (shorter, if I have live ents needing to join). Or even worse, I had one person who had an auto group remove, invite spam, and group join in their macro, set for every 10 mins.
I don't kick immediately as there are occasions when it's more feasable to go AFK than to log out and log back in. For instance when it takes 15 mins to log in with dial up, or when you're still working with buffs.
Just continue to advise the group on your policies before you take leader, and beware zero tolerance. Most folks are understanding.

It's definitely a tough area and the policy is going to depend upon the personalities in the group. I personally never continue to dance if I have to be away from the keyboard but that's my policy and I can't really impose it on anyone else. WellI could but I'd probably create a lot of enemies... I'd have to agree that the group leader should be able to freely kick anyone from the group who has logged off - if someone goes LD suddenly I'll usually give them some time to see if they lost their connection before I boot them. I've not had much trouble with AFK spam botsbut I'd have to agree they get the boot as well. If you encounter the situation where another ATK entertainer needs an invite then someone not contributing as an entertainer will just have to be sacrificed. It might be helpful if perhaps once per hour the group leader reminded everyone of the group join/boot policies. Also request that people indicate when they need to step away so you can keep track of what's going on.
I do have another question about those who are LD. I recently had an entertainer say "I have to go to bed. Please don't boot me from the group." They then logged off - still skill animating. Why would someone request to stay in the group when they were LD? Do they continue to get experience??
Thanks,
Lorraine

I don't have a problem with people going AFK in a group, unless there are others waiting to get into a full group. In that case, I will boot AFK entertainers to make room for the new people, but that's really the only time I do it.
Having a full group, AFK or ATK, allows the up and coming members of the group to get the advantage of higher XP payout. If the AFK member isn't causing any problems for the group, it doesn't really matter to meif they're really there.

My guess would be yes, but I've never tested that. I do know there is a bug that someone skill animating who is LD sometimes won't disappear... However they also won't show up to anyone new that comes by.
